My first little foray into 9-1-1, a show I absolutely adore. I am a diehard Maddie/Chimney, Athena/Bobby, and of course Buddie shipper. This little drabble is very much Buddie, and I hope y'all enjoy it.

Disclaimer: Not mine.

Of all the paths his life could have taken, Eddie never imagined this possibility.

It was three in the afternoon on a lazy Sunday. Christopher was with his abuela, an open window was letting the warm spring air inside, and some medical drama long forgotten played on the TV.

He was sprawled out on his plush couch, more content than he had been in years. Buck was lying on his chest, his head tucked under Eddie's chin and his mouth slightly opened as he slept. Unable to resist, Eddie ran his fingers through Buck's hair, marveling at how perfectly he seemed to fit there.

It was almost as if...Buck had been meant to be there all along.

It was still too far early to vocalize everything on his mind and in his heart. They had only been doing...whatever this was, for a little over a month. The first time came after a particularly harrowing close call, when Eddie saw Buck fall through a burning floor and disappear from his sight. For a split second, he was sure Buck was dead. But by the grace of God, he had gotten to the other man and pulled him out of the building in time. In the chaos of the flames and destruction, he had kissed Buck.

It was surprisingly easy, he realized, having Buck around every day. Deep down he had been worried about Christopher, but the boy was only too happy to see one of his favorite people every day when he came home from school. And the first time Christopher had a nightmare and sought his dad for comfort, only to find both Eddie and Buck in the bed, he just climbed in with them and cuddled between them until he was soothed back into sleep.

It was better than Eddie could have hoped for.

He kissed the top of Buck's head without thinking, smiling when the other man just pressed closer to him in his sleep.

It was a lazy Sunday afternoon, and there was nowhere in the world he would rather be.
