Prologue.
"Again!",
I rolled my eyes and blew a strand of hair from my eyes. Getting to my feet I was met with my trainer; Vanez Blane. The older vampire looked at me sympathetically. "You did the right thing at the wrong moment", he explained to me. I frowned. "Doesn't that still make it totally wrong?",
Vanez smiled at me. "Of course your master would disagree with me, but your technique isn't wrong, Kaitlynn", he told me. I showed him a small smile, still not fully convinced. Vanez kneeled down to look me in the eyes. "You're young, Kaitlynn, they can't expect you to keep up entirely", he said. I wasn't to sure. Others have been talking behind my back. I might be eleven years old, I'm not that naïve.
My mother was about the only vampire to have given birth to a child. They say a man called Desmond Tiny came along and blessed my mother to have me with her great love, Ambrose.
But Ambrose is a freaking traitor. I don't even want to think about calling him my father. Around the time I was born, he turned out to have switched sides. He turned from a half-vampire into a half-vampaneze. But because it takes a few decades for their skin to turn purple, he could still roam around Vampire Mountain. When I was around age six, he secretly blooded me. By pressing his fingernails into my flesh, then doing to same to his own, he could transfer his blood to me.
Lucky for me, a friend of my mother who promised her he'd take care of me found me just in time. He risked his own life to save mine. So years later I learned this, but of course my master has no idea that I know. Or he pretends he doesn't.
Vanez made me practice some more with a few diffrent weapons when my master arrived to pick me up for dinner. I could see the red from his clothing out of the corner of my eyes. It was the only thing the old bat had ever worn since I had known him. I thanked Vanez for the training and went to put on my shoes. As I was putting them on I could hear my master converse with Vanez about me.
"How is she progressing, Vanez?", my master asked him. Vanez was leaning on the blunt part of a spear as he was talking. "She's doing great. Were she a full vampire; she'd maybe make a general of good standing!", he boasted. I smiled to myself. It was nice of him to be so positive about me. He wasn't always so supportive of people.
"Kaitlynn", I janked my head up as soon as I had both my shoes on. My master was looking at me, emotionless as usual. Or well, it wouldn't kill him to smile every once in a while. That's what my uncle also always tells him.
My uncle is a newly made general. Well, they have to do years and years of training and trails, he'd proven himself worthy.
I have to say, I'm super proud of my uncle. He changed from a goofball into a serious member of the vampire clan. It made me proud to know that something like that could be in store for me. I grabbed a towel I took earlier and patted the sweat of my forehead. When I was done I walked over to my master, who was still talking to Vanez about my training.
"We have to go, Kaitlynn", my master said to me and we bid Vanez farewell for now. As we were walking, I could tell something was bothering him. "Something wrong?", I asked him. He scratched the long scar he had on his cheek. "Your blooding worries me", he explained. "You have not been feeling unwell?".
That might've been the first time that he was genuinely concerned about me. He never really expressed a lot of emotion toward me, other than getting irritated about me not listening. And well, I don't exactly blame him. But sometimes the things he asks of me are outrageous. Like being someone I'm not, it's like he wants me to be a mini him!
Thinking back about his question I looked at my fingers. My scarring was deeper than most, because I was blooded twice. But nonetheless I was happy to be a vampire. The idea of killing humans made me shiver. Being forced into killing wether you feel like it or not. And having such a big appetite for blood!
"I feel fine, but the whole event has left me a bit spooked", I admitted. "I keep thinking he'll show up in my room".
My master gave a short nod, but his face pulled into more concern. "We have not found him, yet. But we keep looking", he assured me. I gave a short nod, looking straight ahead. Some vampires were discussing something sneaky. Although, they seemed troubled. My master gently pushed me past the whispering men. They looked at us with narrowed eyes. I looked up to look at my master, who seemed to have kept a straight face.
We got to my room and I took off my shoes. I had blisters forming from the shoes. They had gotten to small and the friction was hurting. But there weren't any kids beside me anymore. So the shoes weren't really made for someone of my age.
I stretched my arms and sighed. "I'm going for a walk outside", I said. My master seemed to deep in thought to hear me. I shrugged and grabbed my shoes while making my way toward the door. I turned around to see my master organizing something in the room. I shrugged again and made my way outside. It was still snowing, but the cold didn't bother me much.
There was a steep way down, but by being careful, you wouldn't fall to your death. At least; if you aren't human. Animals and vampires were excellent climbers. I carefully made my way down toward the nearest forest. I loved walking there to clear my head. Running with the wolves, playing with their cubs, playfighting with the teenage wolves. I loved the outdoors.
When I reached the forest there were some young wolves happy to greet me. I ruffled ones head and smiled. They loved hanging out with vampires. They'd usually hang around our mountain during a council, because of the free throwaway food.
I was petting a young wolf when I heard a low growling noise. Getting to my feet, I looked around with narrowed eyes. There was nothing to be seen as far as I was concerend.
Before I knew fully what was happening, I felt something hit the back of my head. I fell to the ground and saw the world spinning profusely. Out of the corner of my eye I saw something red getting larger and larger. That was the last thing I remembered before things went completely pitchblack.
And I felt no more.
