"Open your eyes..."
"Open your eyes..."
That light kept getting brighter. That bright, that very familiar light.
"Open your eyes..."
"Wake up, Link."
The light grew brighter. Then it changed from a golden, almost ethereal light to a calm, and almost foreboding blue. He could feel the water draining away as his vision cleared, the fuzzy blue balls slowly becoming clearer as he began to sit up. He had no idea where he was, the room was dark, with only the ethereal blue light from his resting place lighting the room faintly. He could barely see the pedestal on his left as he stood up and walked forward, occasionally stumbling as his legs got used to the movement. As he drew closer, something activated, and a small stone tablet with a blue eye with a hint of orange on it popped up from the pedestal.
"That is a Sheikah Slate." The mysterious women's voice whispered in his ear, her voice was so familiar to him, yet he couldn't remember her.
"Take it," she continued, "it will help guide you after your long slumber."
He carefully picked up the tablet. It was a smooth, light stone tablet with a glowing tile on the other side of the tablet. He placed the Sheikah Slate on his waist, attached to the belt he woke up with. After he had removed the device from its pedestal, the door in front of him opened, revealing a small hall with a sealed door at the other end. This room almost mirrored the chamber he had just came from, sleek stone walls with the odd blue circle created an almost isolated feel to this mysterious chamber. The floor was coated in a beige path with a unfamiliar pattern coursing through the room like a vein. It was only the floor that showed signs of wear, with the colour appearing to fade in some places. Large boxes and small barrels littered the hall, with the barrels showing signs of decay. Link tentatively walked forward, towards two chests that were placed on either side of the hall. He carefully opened the chest on his right, noticing it wasn't locked properly. Inside was a pair of trousers and some shoes. The bottom of the trousers were coming apart. Link concluded that they were a bit short but it was better than nothing. After all, he only had his blue undergarments on, and he couldn't go walking around without shoes either. He quickly put on the trousers and shoes, before walking towards the second chest. Once again, he opened it, this time finding an old shirt that was tearing at the seams while the sleeves were far to short for his liking. Still, it was better than nothing. He quickly put the shirt on, and walking towards the second pedestal on the right hand side of the sealed door. Unlike the previous one, there was no slot on top of the pedestal, instead there was just a flat surface with the same eye on it.
"Hold the Sheikah Slate up to the pedestal." The voice said, "that will show you the way."
Following her guidance, Link picked up the Sheikah Slate and held it up to the pedestal as instructed. The pedestal turned blue as the Sheikah Slate came close to it. Suddenly the door unlocked itself and then opened. As Link walked towards the centre, he could see the blinding sunlight pour into the chamber like water. As he looked ahead towards the exit, the mysterious voice spoke again.
"Link...You are the light-our light-that must shine upon Hyrule once again. Now go..."
Without thinking, Link instinctively ran up the stairs towards the exit. He then climbed the wall that blocked his path before finally making it outside. He ran towards the edge of the cliff as he took a deep breath of fresh air for the first time in what felt like forever. The sky was bright blue as the morning began, a soft breeze passed Link by as he looked around with curiosity. He then noticed a man just down the path near him by a campfire. As the man turned around to head back to the fire, Link wheeled round and found a small tree branch as well as some Hylian Mushrooms. After he picked them up he went down the path towards the man. As Link approached the much older male, the man in question looked up from the burning flames in front to him. Link could barely see the man's face because of the hood he wore, he could only see his snow white beard.
"Uh...hello?" Link said tentatively. He may not remember much, but he did remember that he wasn't much of a talker. And for a very good reason that he can't remember.
"Oho ho! Well met, stranger!" The old man said, "it's rather unusual to see another soul in these parts."
"Uh...Who are you?" Link asked, hoping he wasn't being rude.
"Me?" He replied, "I'll spare you my life story. I'm just an old fool who has lived here, alone, for quite some time. What brings a bright-eyed young man like you to a place like this?"
"Where are we?" Link asked. He had only just realised that he had no idea where he was either.
The man chucked lightly, "answering a question with a question. That is fair enough. As I cannot imagine our meeting to be a simple coincidence...I shall tell you. This is the Great Plateau. According to legend, this is the birthplace of the entire kingdom of Hyrule."
The old man stood up and walked out of the small shelter to face a large building not so far away.
"That temple there... Long ago, it was the site of many sacred ceremonies," he explained, "ever since the decline of the kingdom 100 years ago, it has sat abandoned, in a state of decay."
The old man turned to face Link. "Yet another forgotten entity. A mere ghost of its former self... I shall be here for some time. Please let me know if I may be of service."
"Okay, I will," Was all Link could muster up.
Before he left, he noticed what looked to be a roasted apple on the ground. He picked it up, before nearly dropping it in fright.
"I BEG YOUR PARDON!" The old man's voice boomed, "I do believe that is my baked apple! You can't just go about taking whatever you please!"
"I'm-" Link stuttered.
"Oho ho! Forgive me-I could not resist pulling your leg. Please help yourself. An apple and an open flame make for a succulent treat."
Link sighed in relief. He began to walk down the path towards the temple when he heard that women's voice again.
"Link. Link. Head for the point marked on you map in your Sheikah Slate."
'Wait this slate has a map?!' Thought Link, slightly confused. What was this thing? What else could it do?
Link held the Sheikah Slate in his hands as he walked towards the point that was marked on a map that didn't look like a map. He then found an axe lying on the ground and figured that he should take it, he had a gut feeling that he might need it.
He walked further down the path, taking in the beautiful grassy plain and the fresh air that the Great Plateau had to offer just as a blue blob with two googley eyes popped out of a tree.
"Wah!" Link yelped as he smacked it hard three time with the tree branch. As it broke the blob disappeared, leaving behind blue Chuchu Jelly. He picked it up and walked towards a broken fountain.
This had clearly been some sort of plaza beforehand as evident by the cobblestone paved into the ground. However, decades of abandonment had allowed the grass to pierce through the gaps in the bricked layout, making what was once solid cobblestone appear more mossy and untidy. A few bricks were displaced, either tilted out of their slots or cracked apart like broken ice. The fountain was also in disarray as had no water in it, but rather large rocks and a lot of dirt plied into it. The stone that made up the fountain was cracked but not completely broken, unlike the ground around it. Link could only imagine what such a place looked like before.
As he made his way towards the pile of rocks that the Sheikah Slate was leading him to, he noticed a single pig-like monster standing guard near what looked like an entrance to something. Putting the Sheikah Slate back on his hip, he grabbed his Woodcutter's Axe and attacked the creature, killing it. Afterwards he picked up a Boko Shield and some arrows as well as the Traveler's Sword.
'Now that's more like it!' Link thought to himself as he took the sword with him. Now he could defend himself a little better.
Link ran up the hill into some type of structure. The eye symbol that was on the Sheikah Slate adorned the top spire of the structure as well as a pedestal placed directly beneath it. Link placed the Sheikah Slate in the slot, waiting patiently for something to happen when suddenly text appeared on the slate.
Sheikah Tower activated. Please watch for falling rocks.
'Falling rocks-?' "Gah!"
Suddenly, Link fell backwards as the ground began to shake. The next thing he knew he felt as though he was being propelled upwards as the tower pushed itself into the sky, standing tall.
Great Plateau Tower activated. Distilling local information.
A small drop of blue liquid dropped onto the Sheikah Slate. As Link went to look at it, he saw that it revealed the map of the entire plateau. Link took a mental note of that for later.
Regional Map extracted.
Just as Link picked up the Sheikah Slate, he heard the women's voice again.
"Remember..."
He looked towards the giant building in the distance. Was this where that voice was coming from? That bright golden light from before was shining from within the castle.
"Try...Try to remember..."
Remember what?
Link ran towards the edge of the tower just as they ground began to shake.
"You have been asleep for the past 100 years."
What?!
"The beast...when the beast regains its true power, this world will face its end."
A dark presence covered the castle as a horned monster swirled around it, roaring in anger. The light grew brighter as it reigned the monster into the castle.
"Now then...You must hurry, Link. Before it's too late.
