As we approach the final chapter, I wanted to try and churn a (very) short series out before Ch 139 is released.

Summary:

Backed into a corner, Paradis is in need of advanced weaponry to go against Marley forces. Mikasa Ackerman understands this more than anyone. The Azumabito family complies with her request to share Hizuru's technology with the island demons- in exchange for being "Hizuru's hope." A small price to pay, according to the ever loyal and self-sacrificing Mikasa.

Canon-divergence from chapter 107 to 132 (-ish). Which means spoilers until chapter 132.

Mikasa recalled the drool escaping Kiyomi Azumabito's mouth. No doubt it was the thought of obtaining Paradis' unique resource- the iceburst stone, the outsiders call it. To the Survey Corp, it was their precious source of gas for the maneuver gear.

But still, it would be tactless to outright give Hizuru access to the iceburst stones.

And that is the current conversation between the remaining members of the corp.

"Yelena was right." Hanji sighed. "The Azumabitos are quite ruthless money grabbers… but if we want to stand a chance against Marley, we need more firepower."

"More than what Eren and Armin can do?" Jean interjected, eyeing the two in the room.

Levi crossed his arms and droned. "Oi, oi, what about me."

"Right, right!" Hanji laughed. "Sorry for leaving you out!"

"We don't have anything good to give aside from the stones." Connie grumbled.

"What about potatoes!" Sasha exclaimed. "We have tons of them!"

"There's still the matter of Zeke's plan." Armin stated as Jean clapped Sasha's head, chastising her with an "idiot!"

"Out of the question." Eren hissed. "We're not sacrificing Historia." Then he deflated, like he was tired. "No more sacrifices."

Mikasa stood silently by the window, thinking to herself. 'Nothing to give?'

"Lady Kiyomi," Hanji addressed. "The iceburst stones, as you call it, are delicate materials that are specially and carefully acquired by our engineers. There is a reason why it is only for military use. At a certain temperature, these stones will burst, quickly vaporizing and causing a small explosion. The force caused by this explosion is what we use to propel ourselves when we fight. With the growing threat of the titans and Marley, I'm afraid we cannot wholly give you access to our resource."

"However, we wish for a compromise," Hanji continued. "We are willing to give you, and only your nation, the necessary and audited amount of stones to aid in your technological advancement in exchange for the aid of your technology-"

Disappointed, Kiyomi shook her head and disagreed. "I am sorry, that is not enough-"

"In addition to the compliance of Mikasa Ackerman to return to her mothers' homeland of Hizuru once the war is over. With the intent to return your nation to its former glory."

"Kiyomi is only interested in two things," Mikasa spoke up for the first time, drawing everyone's attention in the room. "Money… and power."

"She is walking on a fine line between greed and pride. Greed for our resources and economic restoration of her country… and her pride as a clan." She stares at the symbol on her wrist. "Let's give her both."

"Lady Mikasa," Kiyomi addressed the girl with a smile, one that is akin to a sly fox. "It makes me happy that you will return with us."

"I'll comply… for now."
