Today is the first day of the GohanVidel Week 2021, and the theme I chose is Hero. I hope you'll like this little drabble.

Not sure I'll be able to post the rest on time, since I haven't been able to write something for Day 2 yet (had a couple tries but didn't like them too much), but I'll try and finish this collection even if it's late. This one's a drabble, but I couldn't tell you what the rest of them will be like and how long. I guess we'll find out together. ^^

Look up HanVi Week 2021 on twitter for more info about the event.

With that said, enjoy~~

Day One

Nobody's Damsel

Gohan took her hand as they left the theater together, commenting that he'd enjoyed the movie. Videl scoffed.

"It was so cliché," she disagreed. "Why is it that the guy always gotta save the helpless girl and be the hero? Why can't the girl ever take care of herself? It's so sexist."

Gohan chuckled. "Not every girl is as strong and capable as you, Videl,' he pointed out. "I save you sometimes too, even if you don't really need my help most of the time. But when I come to your rescue, that's not sexist, is it?"

She shook her head. "That's different. We're a team, you and I; we work together to fight crime. But in the movie, the girl was just sitting there and waiting for the guy to come save her. She was completely passive. I mean, couldn't she at least try to fight back and break free from her abductors?"

"She was tied up and gagged. I don't see how she could've done anything. And she wasn't a fighter like you."

"And that's the problem! The writers should've done a better job with her character, not just make her be the prize for the "hero"."

Gohan couldn't help grinning as Videl continued to rant about everything that was wrong with that kind of movie and gender stereotype. He could see why such a scenario would get on her nerves, but he himself didn't mind the cliché trope. That wasn't all that the movie had been about, and Gohan had enjoyed it well enough.

Videl was so cute when she got all worked up about a cause that mattered to her. He gazed upon her with a fond smile, counting his blessings to have such a badass and adorably indignant girlfriend.

She would have made a much better female lead, that was for sure. With a strong-willed character like Videl, she would've escaped from the kidnappers and kicked their butts on her way out. She wouldn't have needed anyone's help ━ she was her own hero.

He chuckled as he pictured to himself a humorous scene: he, in his Great Saiyaman getup, about to break into the hideout where Videl would've been taken, and then the door would open and she would casually stroll out.

Yep. His Videl was nobody's damsel in distress. And he wouldn't have her be any other way.
