Hi I promise I'm also writing my other stuff I just got super focused on this and wanted to start it. Things are still a bit hectic at home, but hopefully I'll be able to get a consistent publishing schedule of this and Hereditary once a week. Legacy is going to take some more time, though.

ANYWAYS lkfdgjhlkdgfsh This is a childhood friends AU I've had on my mind for a while, I hope you all enjoy how sickeningly saccharine the first chapter is. I think I got cavities writing it.

Things were not going well for Ruby. First, on the way to Beacon, someone had puked all over Yang's boots, then as soon as they arrived, her sister ditched her! After that, she tripped on the luggage of a really pretty girl, but she turned out to be really mean and crabby! Then she was yelling and waving Dust in her face and when it all exploded the girl blamed Ruby, as though any of it had been her fault.

Well, maybe the tripping had been partially her fault, but she refused to take full responsibility. Yang had to have at least some of that, given how it was her ditching her that had left her dizzy in the first place! At least the explosion was kind of cool.

After the explosion, the mean girl was yelling even more and it was starting to get even more overwhelming, when another girl showed up. She at least came to Ruby's defense a little, but then she totally ditched after getting the mean girl, who she identified as Weiss Schnee, to leave.

And now here she was, the only fifteen (and a third!) year old candidate for the upcoming year at Beacon Academy, lying in a crater looking up at the sky. At least things were a little calm, it wasn't too cloudy, but there was the occasional puffy cloud floating by. They looked cozy, even if Ruby understood she couldn't really cuddle up with a cloud, it was a cute fantasy to have.

With a sigh, she shifted slightly, not really noticing the sound of approaching footsteps. "Welcome to Beacon," she muttered, not really interested in standing up. Sometimes it was nice to just lie down and pretend for a minute that everything that could go wrong hadn't. Well, maybe not everything, but plenty.

"Um, need a hand?" A familiar voice asked as someone stood above her, obscuring her view of the heavens. Blinking, her eyes adjusted, and she found herself looking up at a familiar blonde mop.

"Jaune?" Ruby asked, more than a little startled as she took his hand, the boy helping her stand with a sheepish smile. "What are you doing here?"

"Oh, you know…" He chuckled nervously, his eyes looking anywhere but towards her. "Just getting ready to attend Beacon."

"What?" She couldn't even keep the disbelief from her voice, before her eyes narrowed slightly. "Wait… are you the guy who threw up on the ship?"

"Um…" Jaune's face lit up with embarrassment at that, the blonde scratching the back of his neck sheepishly as he continued avoiding eye contact. "Guilty?"

"I'm just saying, motion sickness is a way more common problem than people let on!" Jaune defended, though that did little to assuage Ruby from the new nickname she'd assigned her friend.

"Whatever, Vomit Boy." She teased, giving a playful smirk that would hopefully let on that she didn't mean anything malicious by it. "I'm still amazed you managed to get into Beacon! I thought your dad was dead set against it!"

"Yeah, well, I managed to convince him." Jaune insisted, though the way he said it sounded a little unsure. Oh well, Ruby didn't want to pry, it wasn't like he couldn't have gotten in without approval, and she knew that Jaune's relationship with his dad was rocky at best. "I could say the same about you, Crater Face. You're here early, that had to be something special."

"It wasn't that big a deal." Ruby grumbled, ducking her head down slightly as she adjusted her hood to hide in it slightly. "I just managed to stop a big robbery last week, I was going to tell you, but you guys were still on vacation."

"Ah, yeah, vacation." Her friend chuckled again, earning a suspicious glance from the redhead. "Well, I think that's really awesome. Your dad must be so proud of you!"

"I mean, he is, but…" Ruby frowned slightly. "I think he's really sad, too. I think he was looking forward to having me around for a couple more years, he was barely holding back the tears when Yang and I said goodbye at the dock this morning. Hey, how come you weren't there? We could've been hanging out!"

"Oh, uh, I was! You just must've… missed me." That was weird, it wasn't like it was super duper crowded, but Ruby supposed that was possible. "That doesn't matter, we're hanging out now, right?"

"Heh, yeah, we are." Ruby agreed, nudging him with her elbow. As he pouted at her, she saw a familiar glint on his hip, and her confusion regarding things only deepened. Deciding to pursue this, she asked him a question. "Hey, Jaune, what weapon are you using?"

"Huh?" He jumped slightly at the question, before he revealed the familiar sheath of his family's ancestral blade. "Oh, you know, Crocea Mors. It's a bit of a hand-me-down, but it's reliable, right?"

"What? Your dad actually let you take it?" Ruby was more than a little shocked at that. She could still recall the time when she was over at the Arc's home, and Jaune's dad had scolded him rather severely about playing with the old sword. It had scared her a little, seeing him raise his voice like that, but she understood he just didn't want either of them to get hurt playing with a weapon. Still, it made it all the more surprising that her best friend was here, and not back on Patch. "I didn't think he was ever going to let you touch that again!"

"Well, I can be rather persuasive when I need to be." Jaune said in a somewhat joking tone, giving a faux-smug smirk. "What about you? You never did get to tell me about what weapon you use, dad forbidding any talk of Huntsman things in the house and all."

"Oh, uh, just Crescent Rose!" Ruby chuckled sheepishly, deploying her weapon and showing it off to her friend. "I'm sure I must've said a thing or two about her, but I never did get to show you!"

"Yeah, a thing or two…" Jaune nodded, giving the scythe a wary look before looking back towards his own weapon with a bit of disappointment. "What, uh, what exactly is… she?"

"Oh, well, you know! A high caliber sniper-scythe!" Ruby explained gleefully, grinning widely at the opportunity to finally talk shop with her friend after so many times she couldn't. "She can compact into a cute little box I put on my back when I don't need her, and I have this awesome strictly rifle form I use when I'm not getting up close and personal." She switched between the forms, before returning Crescent Rose to her full glory. "And, of course, the sniper-scythe form, my personal favorite. I can use the recoil from the shots with my semblance to get really fast! It's a lot of fun, and great at teaching Grimm a lesson!"

"Yeah, meanwhile I have… this." Jaune grumbled, raising Crocea Mors rather ineffectually.

"Aw, don't be too hard on Crocea! I went way overboard making my baby!" Ruby insisted, offering a reassuring smile. "Besides! Some of us have an appreciation for the classics!"

"Heh, yeah… Classics." Jaune didn't sound particularly convinced by that, but Ruby was being serious. Heck, her dad just used his fists, nothing more classic than that! Just pow, woosh, wham, no more Grimm!

"Thanks, though." She said, changing the subject for him. "For helping me out back there. I know anyone else left was just ignoring me, and you didn't, and that's really cool."

"Aw, shucks, I know you would've done the same if our places were swapped!" Jaune replied, something she couldn't really deny, but it didn't take away the fact that it was nice of him! "You know me, always offering a helping hand when I can. Mom wouldn't have me acting any other way, so I'll do my best to always do that."

Right, his mom. That's why they'd moved to Patch in the first place, a really bad Grimm attack back where they'd used to live. His mom… she hadn't made it, and so his dad decided to move all of them to Patch, somewhere safer to live. Jaune didn't talk about her too much, but whenever he did, he spoke fondly of her.

"She'd be proud of you." Ruby was somewhat quiet as she spoke, thinking of her own long absent mother as well. "For taking the first step to becoming a Huntsman. There's no better way you could be helping people, besides like… becoming a doctor or something."

"Thanks." Jaune gave her a sad smile, before she pulled him into a one-armed hug, which he returned quickly. "Now then, we have to get to the auditorium, right? Any idea where that is?"

"What?" Ruby squawked as the quick embrace ended, paling slightly. "I was, uh, I was following you, Jaune."

"I was following you!" He retorted, quickly looking as nervous as she was. "Oh no."

In the end, finding the auditorium didn't take too long, as soon as they'd figured out how to access a map on their scrolls, but it was pretty clear that they were running pretty late. Every other hopeful initiate was crowded into the large building, the stage thankfully still empty. It was honestly really intimidating, seeing so many people all crowded into one place, and Ruby was shrinking in on herself as much as she could.

Seemingly noticing her discomfort, Jaune took her hand, offering a comforting squeeze and a smile. It was kind of him, especially given Ruby knew he had some discomfort regarding crowds as well, something apparently because of the time he'd spent with his family crowded into their old hometown's shelter, lots of bodies hiding together in a confined space.

As the two entered the room proper, Ruby heard her sister calling out to her. Standing on her tiptoes, she spotted the huge mane of blonde hair that made up her sister's hairstyle, and a grin lit up on her face. "Hey, Jaune!" She chirped cheerfully, "I see Yang! Want to come hang out with us?"

"Um… nah, I think I'm gonna just find somewhere else to get situated. I don't want to cut in on you two having sister time." Jaune excused, earning a slight frown from the redhead, though she didn't press the issue. "I'll see you later?"

"Yeah, thanks, Jaune." Ruby nodded with a smile, before making her way to Yang, who was further into the crowd. It wouldn't be too bad as long as she was with her sister, attention tended to focus more on Yang than herself when they were side by side. Arriving by her sister, Ruby grinned brightly as she gave the blonde a warm hug. "Hey, sis!"

"Hey yourself!" Yang replied with a cheeky grin, ruffling Ruby's hair playfully. "So, how's your first day going, sis?"

"Do you mean since you ditched me and I exploded, or before?" Ruby retorted with a pout, though not a very serious one.

"Yikes! Meltdown already?" Yang asked, cringing slightly. "I didn't mean to bail like that, but you know how it goes."

"No, Yang, I didn't have a… whatever." Ruby grumbled, frowning at what her sister had assumed, before letting out a sigh and continuing. "No, I literally exploded! There's a big hole in the front of the school, and there was some fire, and maybe ice?"

"Are you joking?" Yang asked, eyes narrowing suspiciously. Ruby got that it might sound a bit far fetched, but she wished that her sister would have a little more faith that she wouldn't make up something like that. She loved her to death, but Yang was a lot like dad sometimes when it came to listening.

"No, Yang, I'm being serious!" Ruby complained, frowning. "I tripped over some crabby girl's luggage, then she yelled at me and started waving Dust in my face, and then I sneezed and it exploded! And then she yelled at me again and I felt really, really bad and I wanted to make it up to her but another girl came and snarked her away and I was left all alone!"

"I… Sorry about that, Ruby." Yang said softly, offering her sister an apologetic smile which she was happy to see. "I shouldn't have bailed on you like that. So what happened next, you seem to be in way too good of a mood for that to have just happened!"

"Oh! Right!" Ruby perked up cheerfully, a wide smile on her face. "You'll never guess who I ran into! Jaune! He was here and he helped me up! It was such an awesome surprise!"

"Jaune was here?" Yang's brow furrowed as though she were deep in thought, her lips pursing slightly. "That's… unusual. How was he doing?"

"Oh, well, you know! He was his regular dorky self." Ruby explained. "Maybe a little nervous, but I don't blame him, I'm pretty nervous, too."

"Yeah, I'm sure that's just what it is." Yang replied, frowning slightly. She looked like she wanted to say more, but then someone tapped on the microphone on stage, and all of the would-be student's eyes went forward.

The speech Professor Ozpin gave was more than a little eerie, and just generally off putting. Even as Professor Goodwitch gave the instructions following, most of the Beacon hopefuls seemed confused by what had been said before.

"He seemed kind of... off." Yang noted with a look of concern, though she quickly masked it with cheer. "Hey, Rubes, I'm going to go hang out with my friends from Signal, if that's okay. I bet Jaune will keep you company if you'd like."

"Oh, okay." Ruby did her best to hide the disappointment she felt that her sister was headed off again, but she was glad that her friend would be around to keep her company. "I'll see you for lunch?"

Unfortunately, Yang had already made her way off and left Ruby alone. The redhead sighed, looking more than a little dejected. She knew her sister had good intentions, despite how unhelpful her actions were, but Ruby just really wasn't good at making new friends out of the blue!

Jaune was already gone, and it wasn't as though she was going to approach any of the other students lingering around that she didn't know. With a sigh, Ruby took a look at the campus' map, before her eyes settled on the farms on the school's outskirts. At the very least, she probably wouldn't have to be around a lot of people there, and she enjoyed getting to decompress around animals.

Making her way to the farms didn't take all that long, though she had to stop for a moment to avoid an unfortunately familiar face, one Cardin Winchester, Patch's notorious bully, who got away with his misbehavior due to his family being one of the wealthiest on the island. After slipping past the teen and his posse, things were smooth sailing, and by the time it was about half past one, she had made it to the farms.

Grabbing some feed and taking a seat, Ruby let out a relieved sigh as she shut her eyes, as though letting a great weight off her shoulders. It was easier without so many people around, it didn't feel like everyone might be staring.

By the time she finally opened her eyes, a small crowd of chickens had gathered around her, nibbling at the feed she'd tossed out towards the ground. With a soft smile, she took a silent picture on her scroll, before sending it to Jaune. No other message need be sent, she knew that he'd be on his way to help out with feeding, something they'd done a lot at his family's farm.

Sure enough, here he was not ten minutes later. Unlike Ruby, he had actually managed to make his way over with no interruptions, and was giving her a happy wave as he approached, though careful not to call out loudly in case the chickens were skittish.

"Hey, Jaune." Ruby said quietly as he took a seat beside her and began feeding the chickens as well. Jaune had once noted that the chickens would always focus more on her, but he seemed to do well enough with feeding them, regardless of who they flocked towards.

"Hey yourself." He retorted with a hushed chuckle. "Yang off with her friends again?"

"Yeah," Ruby nodded sadly. "I don't blame her, she sure didn't plan to come to Beacon with her sister, I was an awful last minute addition. Besides, it's not like everyone here will get passed initiation tomorrow."

"Uh, yeah." Jaune's quiet laughter seemed a lot more nervous suddenly, and Ruby couldn't blame him, flunking out before actually becoming a student was a big fear of hers, too. And if it had been half as hard to convince his dad to let him get trained, let alone come to Beacon, as Ruby imagined, than she imagined the spectre of failure was looming even heavier over him than it was her.

"Don't worry!" Ruby insisted, giving her friend a reassuring smile. "I'm sure you'll do just great, Jaune."

"Thanks for the confidence." Jaune replied, though he didn't sound much more confident, if any at all. Still, Ruby was sure he would do great. Even if he didn't get to go to a fancy combat school like she had for a few years, he had the right heart for being a Huntsman, he proved that earlier when he helped her up when he didn't have to, and she knew he would've done it even if they were strangers.

"Maybe we'll be on the same team!" Ruby suggested, "we'll get up to all sorts of trouble, if even half the stories Uncle Qrow told me are true."

"I'm not sure I want to live up to his example." Jaune lamented, frowning slightly. "He was always kind of uncomfortable to be near."

"What? No way, he's super skilled, it's really cool!" Ruby protested, though her expression fell slightly. "I know he can be a bit, uh, uncomfortable at times, but he's a good person, really."

"I think he's just nice to you because you're his niece." Jaune pouted. As if in agreement, a bird flying overhead gave a loud caw, which startled the seated duo. "Not that there's anything wrong with that, really, he just always leered at me whenever I came to visit."

"He just didn't want me to get distracted from my training." Ruby insisted, smiling fondly as she reminisced. "And hey, his training got me here with you and Yang, so I guess he was right!"

"Yeah." Jaune nodded in agreement, though there was something about his tone of voice that still sounded rather uncertain.

"It'll be okay, Jaune, I promise." Ruby said, offering him a comforting pat on the back. "You're just nervous, I'm sure that things will work out just fine tomorrow."

"I know, it's just…" The blonde hesitated for a moment, as if thinking on what he was going to say. "No, I'm sure you're right, I'm just nervous."

"It'll all be okay!" Ruby repeated, not just for Jaune, but for herself, too. Tomorrow was going to be a big day, so she wanted to try and keep as positive an outlook as possible, so that she didn't mess up because she'd gotten it in her mind that she would.

Dinner was quick for Ruby and Jaune, mostly because she was in a hurry to get out of the crowded cafeteria, and soon enough everyone was crowded into the ballroom and Ruby had finally been reunited with her sister. Ruby had gotten changed right away, before most of the students had headed towards the lockers, and so now she was waiting for Yang to return from getting her pajamas on.

Lips pursed, she turned her attention to the task at hand. She didn't have many friends at Signal, at least, not people she would really consider friends, but those she did have were important to her. They might not have had teams at Signal like there were at a proper academy like Beacon, but she had her own little "team" of sorts back on Patch, consisting of herself, a snake Faunus named Lycoris, a boy named Celyn, and a girl who stood about a head taller than the rest of them named Adena.

She was going to miss them terribly, even if having Jaune surprise her by being here was a nice way to lessen the stress, and so she'd decided to write the three of them a letter.

Hey everyone!

Ruby here!

Was that a weird way to start a letter? Maybe she should start again? Something a bit more formal?

Hello Celyn, Lycoris, Adena.

I hope you're all

No no no that was too formal. She felt like she was stuck in one of those boring literature classes that wanted to focus so much on sentence structure and not on actual stories! That was why she took those classes as an elective at Signal, not so that she could learn grammar! Pursing her lips, her gaze narrowed slightly as she focused her thoughts.

Hi everyone, I hope you're doing okay.

That was it, structure rebel wins again!

Today has been crazy, and it's only the first day! The airship ride with Yang was beautiful, getting to see all of Vale like that really put things into perspective. There's so much I want to defend as a Huntress, and that's exactly the kind of thing I need to see to really get an idea of how much I want to defend. Millions of people crammed into the city, all living such blissful lives of safety from the Grimm. Even on Patch we had more of a risk of Grimm, even if having Signal there made the risk pretty negligible.

Once we arrived, Yang ditched me for her classmates from Signal, and I got into a little… altercation with another of the initiates. I don't want to go into the details, but it ended with me laying down in a crater caused by some errant Dust. You'll never guess who I met, though! My friend Jaune was there, you should all remember him from my birthday parties. If I recall, you all said he was boring, but he made it into Beacon, so I guess that shows you, huh? She left a teasing little scribble of herself sticking her tongue out at them.

Jaune helped me up, and was honestly such a big help today. We got to feed chickens at the academy's farm, which was really nice since it wasn't crowded. The dinner's here are so much better than the school food back at Signal! They have swordfish. SWORDFISH! What kind of school is giving their students fancy food like that? Beacon Academy, apparently.

We're getting to bed before Initiation tomorrow, and I have to admit I'm kind of nervous. I have no idea what tomorrow is going to bring, or how we're going to be sorted into teams or any of that. All I know for sure is that I hope Yang will stick by me, and maybe Jaune and I can be on the same team, too! That would be a lot of fun.

Before she could continue, she shifted slightly as her sister plopped down beside her, finally changed for the evening. With a grin, Yang greeted her sister. "It's like a big slumber party!"

Without taking a moment to glance up, Ruby gave a short retort. "I don't think dad would approve of all the boys, though."

"You need to lighten up, sis." Yang teased, ruffling her hair. "There's no reason not to enjoy the view!"

If only to acquiesce so that her sister would stop teasing, Ruby did look up, before breaking into a fit of giggles at the sight of Jaune walking by, wearing the Pumpkin Pete onesie his sister Saphron had given him a couple years ago, a frequent feature of their slumber parties.

"What're you laughing at?" Yang asked, looking back up herself, features going into a deadpan as the blonde boy waved cheerfully at them. "I can't believe he still has that thing."

"Why not?" Ruby asked while returning the wave with a smaller one of her own. "It's cute. And comfy."

"Now how would you know that?" Yang teased, Ruby pouting at her sister before turning her attention back to her letter, it was almost done. "What's that?"

"A letter back to the gang at Signal." Ruby explained, frowning as she couldn't find the right words to use for her letter, before just closing it for now and turning her attention to Yang. "I promised them I would tell them how Beacon was and how things are going. You know Adena is planning to come in a couple years, and Lycoris was thinking about it still."

"That's. So. Cute!" Yang exclaimed, drawing the attention of more than a few of the students in the room for a moment, before they returned to whatever they had been doing. In response to her sister, Ruby launched her pillow into the blonde's face.

"Shut up! I didn't get to take all my friends with me to school!" Ruby insisted, wishing Yang wouldn't baby her quite so much. "It's weird not knowing everyone here. Even at Signal it was familiar faces, even if I was only friends with a few people."

Yang gave her sister a small smile, knowing that Ruby had struggled just as much when she started attending Signal and was confronted by the unfamiliar crowds. Being raised in a how pretty far away from the city on the southern coast of the island made it hard to make a lot of friends outside their neighbours, the Arcs. That gave Yang an idea, though. "Well, you've got Jaune, right?" She asked, "that has to count for something!"

"Yeah, but…" Ruby frowned, laying back down and looking at the ceiling. "I told you about that girl I ran into earlier… I just… I'm worried that I won't be able to make any new friends, especially with people like her around."

"I know you made one uh… negative friend… enemy. Enemy. But that doesn't mean that'll be it." Yang tried to reassure, "this is only day one out of four years, Ruby. You'll have plenty of chances to make lots of great new friends. They're all around you, you just haven't had the chance to meet them yet."

"Promise?" Ruby asked, her attention being slightly drawn by the sudden inclusion of dim light from a candle, and the brunette sitting beside it with a book in hand.

"Of course I promise." Yang nodded, ruffling Ruby's hair before noticing that her sister's attention was towards something. "What's that?"

"That girl." Ruby said, "she was there this morning. She got the mean girl to lay off, but she left before we could talk."

"Well, let's fix that!" Yang announced, yanking Ruby up unexpectedly, and dragging her towards the brunette that had lit the candle. Ignoring her sister's desperate pleas of protest, Yang greeted the bookish girl with a wide smile. "Hello! I believe you two may know each other?"

"Aren't you the girl who exploded?" Great, of all the things Ruby was going to be known as, it was going to be "the girl who exploded." So much for being a renowned hero, she felt like withering up in a corner.

"Uh, yeah… My name's Ruby." She mumbled out, having a bit of trouble making eye contact with the amber eyed girl. "You can, uh, call me Crater Fa… you can call me just, uh, Ruby, actually."

"Okay?" The brunette barely even gave a response, her eyes firmly on the book. Oh gosh, this wasn't going well.

"What are you doing?" Yang whispered loudly, clearly having noticed that Ruby was about as helpless as she always felt when approaching new people.

"I don't know!" Ruby snapped back in a hushed tone. "This was your idea, help me!"

"So…" Yang took charge, stepping a little in front of Ruby and towards the brunette. "What's your name?"

"Blake."

Oof. The rolled eyes with the response, Ruby knew from experience that was the worst kind of response to get from asking for someone's name. Poor Yang.

"Well, Blake! I'm Yang, Ruby's older sister." Wow, Yang was pressing on regardless. Truly she was a braver soul than Ruby. "I like your… bow!"

"Thanks!" Oh dear, Blake was getting irritated by Yang's persistence. Ruby tried tugging her sister away to no avail, the blonde clearly adamant on trying to get the brunette out of her shell.

"It goes great with your… pajamas?" Gosh, Yang, even Ruby knew that was a bad attempt.

"Right…" Ruby laughed nervously as she continued to observe the exchange, which seemed to be caught between a loop of Yang's interest and Blake's disinterest.

"Nice night, don't you think?" Wow, Yang was reaching pretty far, back into the stories of how Uncle Qrow would fail to pick up guys and gals when he was a student. She must be pretty desperate, but sadly, Ruby could do nothing to salvage this.

"Yes, it's lovely. Almost as lovely as this book. That I will continue to read." Yang and Ruby remained lingering there, as hopelessly as Ruby tried to pull her sister away. Blake's eyes narrowed as she continued. "As soon as you leave!"

"Yeah this girl's hopeless." Yang finally admitted, resigned. Surprisingly to her, though, Ruby wasn't. As soon as Blake had mentioned a book, she found herself interested again.

"What's it about?" She shyly asked, taking a step towards the brunette.

"Huh?"

"Your book!" Ruby chirped. "Does it have a name?"

"Oh," Blake looked a bit surprised at the question, hesitating for a moment before continuing. "It's about a man with two souls, each fighting for control over his body."

As Yang made an offhand comment behind her, Ruby just felt more interested in continuing the conversation. She might not have heard of the book, but she'd definitely have to read it sometime if she was able.

"I love books." She explained, looking back at Yang with a fond smile. "Yang used to read to me every night before bed. Stories of heroes and monsters, knights and fair maidens… It's one of the reasons I want to be a Huntress today."

"And why is that?" Blake chuckled a little. "Hoping you'll live happily ever after?"

"Well, I'm hoping we all will!" Ruby replied, smiling sheepishly. "As a child, I always wanted to be like… to be like the heroes of those stories, someone who could fight for what was right, and protect the people who couldn't protect themselves."

"That's very… ambitious, for a child." Blake's smile turned to a frown as her expression fell. "Unfortunately, the real world isn't like a fairy tale."

"Of course it isn't, but that's why we're here, isn't it?" Ruby asked, smiling at the confused look on Blake's face. "We're here to make it better, for everyone else."

"Oh, I'm so proud of my baby sister!" Before Blake could respond, Yang had scoped Ruby into a hug with her left arm, lifting her into the air. In return, Ruby threw a playful punch, trying to escape her sister's grasp to no avail.

"Cut it out!" Ruby insisted, though that only caused Yang to laugh and ruffle her hair, all while she did her best to get out of the hug. Really, even when she did make friends, Yang always embarrassed her! Okay, maybe it wasn't so bad, and it was kind of nice that Yang was with her now instead of still with her Signal friends, but it didn't stop that from being embarrassing.

As Blake did her best to say goodnight to the sister duo, another voice rang out, not really shrill, but it wasn't a pleasant experience nonetheless.

"What in the world is going on over here?!" The mean girl Ruby had encountered earlier, one Weiss Sneeze from what she could remember Blake saying earlier, snapped at the trio. "Don't you realize that some of us are trying to sleep!"

"Well then go to sleep!" Yang snapped back, frowning at the Atlesian girl. Unlike Ruby, Yang could recognize her, and wasn't entirely impressed at the idea of some spoiled heiress coming to Beacon. "It's not like we're stopping you."

"What's that supposed to me?" Weiss snapped back, Ruby frowning all the while as she recognized Yang getting ready to bicker more. "We're all in here together, so, yes, you two acting like a couple of ruffians is stopping me from sleeping!"

"Yang, come on." Ruby tugged at her sister's shoulder, which unfortunately only put her in view of Weiss more clearly.

"Oh, of course it would be you." The Atlesian sneered. "It figures a child like you would be acting this way."

"Lay off her!" Yang insisted, not listening to Ruby's pleas as she took a step closer to the heiress. "You can beef with me all you want, but you don't get to talk to my sister that way."

"And what are you going to do about it?" Weiss retorted, her eyes narrowing.

That was it, this was going to get even worse if she let it go on anything further. Imposing herself between Yang and Weiss, Ruby pulled her sister back. "Yang, she's right. People are trying to sleep, and we have initiation tomorrow."

"Oh, now you're on my side?" The Atlesian snarked, which did nothing to actually improve the situation.

Taking a deep breath, Ruby didn't rise to the girl's words. "Come on Yang, it was nice meeting you Blake."

Leaving the irate Atlesian behind, Ruby and Yang returned to their sleeping bags, and the redhead let out a tired sigh, before entering hers. She'd have to finish her letter tomorrow morning before Initiation, and maybe not mention that latest of debacles.

Gods willing, she wouldn't have to deal with Weiss Schnee again.
