Sometimes Bones was simply ridiculous. Despite of all her genius and expertise, brassiness and confidence, she still doubted sometimes well, them. Maybe doubt was not the right word, but she felt insecure enough to make assumptions that they might get a divorce someday or that Booth was tired of the routine, which was, of course, ridiculous. On one hand it flattered him that she was worried about their relationship and in her charmingly awkward way was always trying to fix it, even though there was nothing to fix. The real problems they faced, such as Pelant threat, his gambling relapse, she would meet head on with the force that even Booth was scared of sometimes. But the little things like too much food and no sex a couple of weeks in a row, that what scared Bones. Maybe it was for the best, this was their balance, she was insecure about small things, Booth was worried about larger issues and where they might take them, mostly him, because even after years of struggles he still had his demon called gambling, which not that long ago almost destroyed his life.
Even though he never really wanted to, he quit FBI for awhile, because that what Bones wanted, she needed it more precisely. His arrest, addiction, Hank's birth, Sweets' death, all that caught up to her and she needed a break, a similar to one she had during her time at Maluku. Thank goodness this time round she didn't leave him behind and during the six months break they were a simple, boring couple, which of course, in time became too much and they had to go back to work. It's who they were Booth and Brennan vs bad guys.
Today, they had real fun, not the scary kind, but honest to goodness fun, without kids, responsibilities and crazy murderers chasing them. And now they were relaxing in a bath tub, Booth was hugging her from behind securely, his chin on the top of Bones' head, he was watching bubbles around them while Bones was ranting on about something, he was barely listening, this what he was fighting for all those years ago and now that he had, he would never let it go.
'Booth! Booth? Are you even listening to me?' Bones' low voice broke him from a slumber.
'Not really,' he yawned. 'I was just relaxing here and your voice have a very soothing effect on me.'
'I was telling you how great I felt on the motorcycle I bought for you. You should really try it sometime!'
'No offense, Bones, but I would never do that. I am an FBI/sniper guy, I am cool. And that thing is for squints!'
'Are you saying that I am not cool?' she looked at him with the same challenge she did all day at the cowboy dress up.
'Are we doing this again? Of course, I think you are cool, but in a different, more squinty way!'
'Are you sure that you are not tired of our lives together?' she suddenly asked him quietly and Booth realized that she was worried for real. 'Recent studies show that…'
'Bones, let me stop you right there. I don't care about any studies. Our lives is one big adventure and these little moments of peace and quiet we have is what I cherish the most with you! And where all this coming from? All that because I looked at a couple of motorcycles? That's not like you at all.'
'Angela said…' began Bones and Booth rolled his eyes with annoyance hugging his wife tightly, her butt was now pressed right to his pelvis and he felt things starting to pinch a little.
'I knew it! With all due respect to Angela, but maybe you should stop listening to her on the matter of us? She doesn't know everything!'
'In the previous years she was very helpful,' noted Bones.
'Not always! Remember that time when she thought I was cheating on you during the Pelant thing? Ha? Just for your information, I still hold a grudge about that!'
'Well, it was a reasonable assumption, Booth,' said Bones pressing his hands even closer.
'Really? Me cheating on you? After everything we've been through and all the years I've been trying to woo you that was a reasonable assumption? If anyone should ever be worried, it's me, you are the one who was telling me about how monogamy is overrated!'
'You made your point,' smiled Bones relaxing in his arms.
'And besides, I think Angela should worry about her own relationship more often.'
'What are you insinuating? Do you think something is wrong with her and Hodgins?'
'Nothing is wrong, but they do have this second kid wrinkle going on. It's clear that Hodgins doesn't want to have any more children and Angela always wanted a small army of them.'
'You are correct,' Bones shifted a little and put one of her legs on the tub's edge, her butt was now firmly enveloping his hardening length, well, they did love tub sex. 'Maybe he will change his mind, after all, I thought I never wanted kids as well.'
'Well, maybe in the very beginning, but I do remember when you almost gave me a heart attack when asked me for my sperm to get pregnant or did you conveniently forget about that?' he was now kissing her shoulder, trying to shift the mood.
'I remember,' giggled Brennan and took one of his hands, she kissed his fingertips and put his palm on her breasts, this was getting better and better. 'I still have it somewhere, by the way.'
Booth was just about to flip her over and get to the good stuff, but her words struck him and he stopped what he was doing and just looked at Bones with eyes wide open.
'Why would you keep that?!'
'I don't know, it's just there I didn't even think about it until now,' she shrugged.
'Bones, you do realize how weird that is? I am your husband, if you need some sperm from me, just ask! I can't believe we are having this conversation!'
'Booth, I wasn't saving it as trophy, I just kept it, at that time I didn't know that we will be together, let alone get married and have kids, your sperm was my safety net!'
'Unbelievable! So let me get this straight, if we never got together, you would have used it at some point?'
'Probably, you are a remarkable specimen. Although, I must admit, the natural way is far more pleasurable,' she turned to face him and now was kissing him slowly. As pretty and arousing as she looked in bubbles, Booth was still a little uneasy with the whole sperm thing and then, suddenly, he couldn't help but started laughing out loud.
'What's wrong, Booth?'
'Nothing, it's just…' he kissed her deeply and shifted their position, so he would be inside of her, they began moving slowly while Bones' concentrated her gaze on him. 'Bones, life with you can never be routine or dull, it' simply not possible. You are one of a kind.'
'Did you come to this conclusion because I saved your sperm?' she closed her eyes and her voice was now lower than usual, she was nibbling Booth's ear and he felt waves of pleasure coming onto him.
'Among other things,' she was now riding him on earnest and he couldn't care less about anything else but them. 'I love you, Bones. Always.'
'I love you too, Booth.'
