Crashing into Ogygia

Calypso flipped through her favorite flower book. She had already read the book seven times over the last two years. But Calypso had nothing better to do, her parents' flower show called Ogygia was empty.

Calypso thought about texting one of her friends, but thought better of it, they were all at different camps for the summer: one was at an art camp, one was at a horse-riding camp, one was a vegetarian camp, and one was at an architecture camp. She really wished that the flower camp her parents, Atlas and Tethy were making her go, started this week inside of in three weeks.

Calypso sighed and continued to flip through her book again. She was reading about the meaning of orchids, when she heard a crash outside the store.

Calypso jumped up and ran outside to find a Latino boy laying down next to a fallen folding table.

"What are you doing? You crashed into my table!" Calypso asked.

"I'm sorry!" said the boy as he got to his feet. "I was trying to fly my helicopter, and it got away from me, Sunshine."

"Don't call me Sunshine, where is your helicopter by the way?" Calypso said as she watched what looked like a helicopter fly down the street.

"¡Mi helicóptero!" (English Translation: My helicopter!) The boy said as he ran off, following his helicopter down the road.

Calypso rolled her eyes as she picked up the table, and the fallen plastic flower vases. Lucky none of them were broken.

As soon as she was done picking everything, Calypso went back to her flower book, the Latino boy was far from her mind.

The next day Calypso was doing the same thing as yesterday: reading her flower book. Ogygia only had two customers that day so far and it was already two o'clock.

One of the customers was Ms. Jackson-Blofis who bought a bouquet of blue forget me nots. The other customer was Mrs. Dare who wanted a dozen juliet roses for her dinner party next Friday.

Calypso oversaw Ogygia while her parents were at a flower convention at the outskirts of town.

After a while of looking at her book Calypso got bored, she started to make a bouquet with five bird of paradises as the focal flowers, ten proteas as the secondary flowers and fifteen snapdragons as the textural flowers.

Together they meant thoughtfulness, courage and strength.

She was just wrapping the bouquet with a pale blue ribbon, the front doorbell of Ogygia rang. Calypso looked up to see the same boy that crashed into her table the day before.

"Welcome to Ogygia, how can I help you today?" Calypso asked as she quickly tried up the bouquet and put it on the front desk.

"No, I was just wanting to see the wonderful place that I crashed into Sunshine." the boy said.

"Don't call me Sunshine." Calypso said, she was starting to become irritated with the Latino boy.

"Well, I wouldn't need to if I knew your name." the boy said.

Calypso rolled her eyes and said, "It's Calypso."

"That's a beautiful name for a beautiful girl. My name is Leo, but everyone calls me Super-sized McShizzle." the boy whose name is Leo said. "What do you call Dracula with hay fever?

"I don't know." Calypso said with a sigh, Leo was definitely starting to get on her nerves.

"The pollen count!" Leo said.

"Are you going to get any flowers?" Calypso asked with another sigh.

"Yeah, can I have the bouquet you were working on when I got here?" Leo asked.

"Sure, that will be $23.02." Calypso said.

Leo gave her the $24, Calypso gave him his change of $0.98 and the bouquet.

"Do you go to Goode High School?" Leo asked.

"Yeah, why?" Calypso asked.

"I go there, too and you seem familiar. Well, it was nice meeting you Calypso." Leo said as he opened the door to leave.

"It was nice to meet you, too." Calypso said, locking the door behind him.

Calypso was not going to admit to any of her friends, but it was kind of nice meeting Leo. He was cute in a Latino Santa's elf kind of way.

That day at dinner all Calypso's parents talked about was the floriculture who grew rare flowers.

Calypso picked at her moussaka, while her parents talked.

"Antheia is the only person in this part of the country that grows chocolate cosmos!" Tethy said "They no longer grow in the wild!

"I believe that we would be able to sell them in table bouquets for weddings." said Atlas.

"What do you think about the flowers, Calypso?" Tethy asked her daughter.

"I think they would sell. They have a chocolatey aroma, and people do like chocolate" Calypso said.

"I'll place an order for five cuttings, first thing tomorrow morning." said Atlas as he marked it on his memo.

"Oh Dad, Mrs. Dare ordered a dozen juliet roses, for her dinner party next Friday." Calypso told her father.

Atlas nodded as he marked the juliet roses on this memo.

"Did we sell a lot today?" Tethy asked Calypso.

"Well, Ms. Jackson-Blofis brought a bouquet of forget me nots, Mrs. Dare ordered a dozen juliet roses and Leo bought a bouquet of bird of paradises, proteas and snapdragons." Calypso said.

"Leo?" Atlas asked with his eyebrow raised.

"A boy that goes to Goode high school." Calypso answered.

Tethy nodded with a knowing smile.

"You better start eating your moussaka before it gets cold." Tethy told Calypso.

Calypso nodded and started to eat her moussaka, it was one of her favorite dishes.

The next morning: Tethy was delivering flowers in the van, Atlas was Antheia's greenhouse placing Ogygia's order of flowers, while Calypso watched the store.

The store had been only opened for fifteen minutes when the first customer came in.

That customer was Super-sized McShizzle who was also known as Leo.

"How can I help you today Leo?" Calypso asked.

"I need to get flowers for a girl, but I don't know what she likes!" Leo said.

"Well, how would you describe this girl in three words?" Calypso asked.

"Beautiful." Leo said.

"That would be amaryllis flowers." Calypso said, pointing to a group of tall red and white flowers.

"Kind" Leo said.

"That would be anthurium flowers." Calypso said, pointing to a group of tall blue flowers.

"Caring"

"That would be pink tulips." Calypso said, pointing to a group of tall pink flowers.

"Perfect!"

"How many do you want of each kind?" Calypso asked.

"Six for the Amaryllis, nine of the Anthuriums and twelve of the pink tulips" Leo said.

"The girl getting this, is very lucky." Calypso said.

Leo nodded with a smile.

"What color ribbon?" Calypso asked.

"Do you have any dark green ribbons?" Leo asked.

Calypso nodded. She gathered six Amaryllis, nine Anthuriums and twelve pink tulips. She wrapped them in clear plastic and tried it with a dark green ribbon.

"That will be $37.00." Calypso said.

"Thank you." Leo said as he handed her the money.

Calypso handed Leo the newly made bouquet.

Calypso expected Leo to leave after she gave him the bouquet, but he didn't leave.

"Leo, can I help you with something else?" Calypso asked.

Leo shook his head.

"Then why are you still here?" Calypso asked.

"I have to ask you something." Leo said.

"What do you have to ask me?" Calypso asked.

"Calypso would you be willing to go on a date with me sometime?" Leo asked as he handed her the bouquet he had just bought.

"Yes, I would love to go on a date with you Leo!" Calypso said as she held her bouquet.

Maybe it was a good thing that her flower camp didn't start for another three weeks.
