It was an empty and deserted street, but it'd soon be the home of the boy who lived. A man wearing long robes and a purple cloak apparated into sight. Waiting there for him was a cat. But this cat was unlike other normal cats since it wasn't a cat at all. It was Professor Minerva McGonagall in disguise.
"Albus, why did you ask me to come here?"
"Minerva, there is something you should know," said Dumbledore.
"What?" asked McGonagall alarmed, as she looked at Dumbledore's serious face. That day had taken a toll on a lot of people, there were many who celebrated, but there were few who mourned the loss of lives that were lost.
"It's good news Minerva, but something that has to remain a secret," replied Dumbledore with a smile. "Harry Potter, son of Lily and James, lives!" he said.
"What? Harry Potter is alive?" asked McGonagall excitedly.
"There are only 3 people in the world who know this, and the number is going to be 4 pretty soon," he said. "I asked you to come here, thousands of miles away from London, to meet someone," he added.
"Who are we meeting, Albus?" asked McGonagall.
"There's still time for that, but before that, you should know certain things about this secret," he said. McGonagall was now listening intently. "When Tom Riddle cast the killing curse at Harry Potter, the curse backfired. Lily sacrificed her life, but in doing so, she tricked Riddle with an ancient ritual, Opfermagie. And this is why Voldemort is, for now, no more! But I suspect he's not truly gone. The prophecy has thus begun."
"So, Lily is the reason, Vold… You-Know-Who is gone? Poor kids, they were so young," said McGonagall with a tear in her eye. "Why the secret though? Why not tell the whole world that Harry is alive?"
"I don't want Harry to grow up with this legend around him. He's and will be too young for something like this. But he'll find out about who he's from his guardian when the time is right. And at that time, he'll be trained to be the person that will fulfill the prophecy. And this is the reason he's in this country. It is beautiful isn't it?" replied Dumbledore.
Beautiful wasn't the first word that came to McGonagall's mind, cold was!
"Who will be his guardian?" asked McGonagall.
"He'll be here soon," said Dumbledore.
As they waited, they talked about a lot of things. Life as they knew it had changed ever since Voldemort's rise to power. But now that he was temporarily gone, life would again be different than what it was. After some time, they both heard the sound of a motorbike, and Hagrid arrived carrying the baby with the scar.
"Hagrid?" exclaimed McGonagall. "Surely you don't mean him, Albus?"
"No, Minerva, he is not going to be the guardian, he'll be of use to me at Hogwarts," replied Dumbledore. "Hagrid, where did you get the motorbike?"
"Professor Dumbledore, Sir, Sirius Black lent it to me," replied Hagrid.
"No problems were there, I hope," said Dumbledore.
"No sir!"
Once Hagrid arrived, Dumbledore along with McGonagall, Hagrid and Harry entered the huge mansion that they were standing outside till that time. It could comfortably house a few families. It was empty, not just empty in that there was nobody living there, but empty in every sense of the word. It looked like it had just been constructed.
"Albus, what is this house? Whose is it?" asked McGonagall.
"This house is owned by… was owned by James and Lily. They were planning on moving here if things were to go wrong. Unfortunately, things went very wrong before they could even react. And now, this house belongs to Harry."
"All the way here, what will Harry do in a country like this?" asked McGonagall.
"Live, Minerva. Harry will live a special, yet simple life away from the chaos that will be England. Here, there'll be few people who'd have heard of Voldemort," replied Dumbledore.
They were in Iceland.
"Who is going to be here with Harry?" asked McGonagall.
"Patience, Minerva! Hagrid, you can go back to Hogwarts now," said Dumbledore.
Crying tears of Goodbye, Hagrid kissed Harry on the forehead and left.
"And in order to fulfill the prophecy, I have made a decision," said Dumbledore looking at McGonagall the moment Hagrid left.
"What decision?" asked McGonagall.
"Harry will no doubt have magic in him, and that means when the time comes, he should be ready to receive his Hogwarts letter. But, Harry will not be coming to Hogwarts," said Dumbledore.
"Albus? What do you mean? You want Harry to attend a different school?"
"Harry will not be attending any magical school. He'll attend muggle school, but will be trained in our ways by his guardian. And when the time comes, Harry will come to England," replied Dumbledore.
"Are you sure you want to keep him miles away from us? What if You-Know-Who never returns? What if he's gone for good?"
"In the unlikely situation that, that happens, Harry will live his life happily," replied Dumbledore.
In the years to come, this decision that Dumbledore took will be revisited by him many times, and every single time, he'll remind himself that there was no going back. It'll be well over a decade, the next time McGonagall and Dumbledore would see Harry, and that would be the last day Dumbledore lives. Growing up, Harry was like every other normal, muggle kid around him. Even though there were moments where something unexplainable would happen, he would shrug it off as nothing. Harry also had the ability to speak a lot of languages, perhaps because he was living with a man who was linguistically brilliant, or because he was in a country that didn't speak English as its first language. Harry was only 7 years old when he first found out about the world of magic. He was as excited as any human being could be. He was told stories about the history of magic, about the great wizarding families and great wizards. From the moment he found out, till the time he turned 11, Harry had to content himself with the stories that his guardian told him. It was about a year after he found out about magic that his guardian showed him magic. Accio and Alohomora were enough for Harry to dream about the things he'd do with magic. Harry was raised to gain knowledge. "Knowledge is Power" was something his guardian would always tell him. Harry read every book that his guardian allowed him to read. Harry and his guardian would have the biggest fight yet when Harry found out about Hogwarts. Even though his guardian had done all he could to keep a lot of things secret, Harry's curiosity and questions eventually brought the topic of Hogwarts into the mix. Harry was livid when he found out that there was a school where magic was taught, but he'd never go there. When compared to the school that he went to, Harry thought that Hogwarts was awesome. But the moment he found out that he wouldn't be going there, Harry lashed out at his guardian. It was then that Harry was told about how famous his name was all over Britain, and how, for the world, Harry Potter did not exist, or more accurately, was dead. Until that moment, Harry wasn't Harry Potter, but Harry Evans. What started as a fight, turned into the biggest lesson Harry would ever learn, his past. Harry, like many people before him, could not escape the charm of his guardian. There was just something about him that was mesmeric. His guardian's stories, actually it wasn't the story in itself, it was the way his guardian told the story that made them interesting. One day, Harry asked his guardian a story about his life. The guardian, in all the stories he had told Harry, had never once told Harry about his own life, tidbits here and there but never the entire story. And one could argue that the guardian was more popular than Harry Potter himself.
"How long are we going to wait?" asked McGonagall.
"He should be here any moment," replied Dumbledore. And then they both heard a loud crack and a moment later McGonagall saw the guardian that Dumbledore had chosen.
"Albus, is that… is that who I think it is?" asked McGonagall, there was a shiver in her voice.
"No need to be afraid, Minerva, he's the perfect person to raise and guide Harry. Also, he has made an unbreakable vow, so you can trust that if not him. I also believe this is his chance to finally make a positive impact on this world," replied Dumbledore calmly as the man approached the pair slowly.
"Hello old friend, hope you're doing well," said Dumbledore looking at the man.
"Hello Albus Dumbledore," greeted Gellert Grindelwald.
