"Hey, you!"

Percy was on his way back up to his office when he heard her. He didn't know who she'd been shouting at, but he turned around anyway just to see. She was standing only a couple feet away and by her plaid shirt and dark jeans, he deduced she wasn't a Ministry worker. She must be looking for something or someone. "Yes?" he said, politely. "Did you need something, Miss?"

"Where's the court room at?" She asked and by the bored tone in which she spoken, he reckoned she didn't really want to be there.

He also took notice of her lack of accent. She must have been American.

He pointed over to the right. "Take the elevator up a floor, go down the hallway and it's on the right." He smiled kindly. "Are you going for jury duty?" It was a semi recent change that Kingsley added in order to get citizens involved. After the war, many people were distrusting toward the Ministry, especially with how Fudge had mishandled You-Know-Who's return for the longest time. This was part of a reconstruction act to repair bridges and make things flow again.

"unfortunately," the woman snorted. "Lucky me, I've got a little something to keep myself awake." She produced a small vial out of her pocket, smirking.

"Is that alcohol?" Percy's eyebrows flew up to his hairline.

The woman shushed him harshly. "Shut up, nerd."

"Excuse me?" He'd heard a lot from Fred and George over the years-that he now saw the humor in for the most part-but this was a first.

"Don't tell me you've never drank before?" The woman said.

"I have, but in appropriate settings," he said, watching as she put the vial away.

"Oh, yeah. You're totally a nerd. Let me guess, you were a prefect and head-boy?"

"As a matter of fact, yes," he said.

"Yeah, I could tell," she said and he realized that what she said was not a complement. "Anyway, as much as I enjoyed this-" she gestured between them, "I've gotta go pretend I care for like eight hours."

"Hold on a moment, Miss," he stopped her before she could walk off.

"Beca," she corrected.

"Very well," he conceded. "Beca. There is no drinking in the court room. I'm going to have to ask you to get rid of that before you enter."

He was flabbergasted as she took a drink right in front of him, all while maintaining eye contact. "And?" she drawled once she was done, "are you gonna tell on me?"

"There are rules in place," he insisted, weakly. "I must insist that you abide them."

"No thanks," the woman-Beca tossed him a smile as she went off in the direction that he'd showed her. "See you around, nerd."

Later on that night, Percy and the girls went to George's flat for dinner with his family. He complained to his brother when they alone about the outrageous display of disrespect and to anyone else, he seemed thoroughly annoyed by Beca. It wasn't a complete lie; he'd been initially irritated that she thought to disregard the rules like that, especially there at the Ministry of all places.

But he also felt something else and he didn't dare express it.

Not right now.

Her eyes had been dazzling. All of her had. She looked young, perhaps not thirty yet. Percy felt dirty for noticing how beautiful she was. It was inappropriate. He couldn't be doing that. What would his family say? More importantly, what would his girls think? They hadn't dealt with him dating anyone because for so long after Audrey left them, he hadn't been interested in another woman. It was always his girls. They were his number one priority. He didn't know how to feel, but one thing was for certain. He wanted to see Beca again.

And that thought scared him.
