Chapter 1- prologue
Four years after the events of the Paradise Sanctuary
Not much has changed since the events involving the apprehension of the group of animal collectors who ran the fraudulent Paradise Sanctuary in Peru and the elimination of the overpopulation of toucans on the Blu Bird Sanctuary, a LOT of them being Rafael and Eva's descendents and a LOT of who were VERY naughty with a strong taste for over-the-top troublemaking and causing the other residents of Tujica Forest nothing but bother, alongside competition for food and trees. But the final stick finally came for these naughty toucans when the majority of the forest was set ablaze thanks to the toucan chicks of the negligent parents who were manipulated into playing with fire by the evil parrot-hating chameleon, Dalek, whom Sandalwood and the other kids captured by smugglers encountered during their time at the fraudulent Paradise Sanctuary, and they had either been captured and sent to other sanctuaries outside Brazil or were culled and as this happened, the toucan population had been drastically reduced to a smaller and reasonable number. Any toucan who was friends with the destructive toucans was also driven out by the residents or had themselves left in disgrace, further reducing the population. Amongst the toucans sent away to other sanctuaries were Sofia and her mate Marcel, and Marco and his mate Anastasia, while amongst the toucans left included Rafael, his keel-billed mate Eva, and Diantha and her offspring Gladion and Lillie, all who had grown into adolescent toucans like their macaw and other bird friends and thankfully, these toucans were not like their many, many more villainous siblings, cousins and relatives, and since the major fire incident in addition to their age, Rafael and Eva had never had any more chicks.
As for the forest of the Blu Bird Sanctuary, as the four years passed, the trees and other plants that grew had recovered from the fire and had returned to their usual green leaf-decorated selves, with the fruit trees also bearing their usual fruit which served as one of the key staples of the inhabitants' diets, and the inhabitants themselves, after moving back into the forest once it had become habitable enough to do so, had flourished and continued to do so. Amongst the community was a certain group of birds and flying foxes who had chosen to live on the sanctuary near Rio de Janairo (which also hadn't changed much over the four year time period, save for new buildings being constructed). Carla, Bia and Tiago, the first-brood children of Blu and Jewel, together with their respective mates Justin, Virgil and Matilda, three of Zephyr and Aurora's four first-brood children along with Charlotte and her mate Músculo and all their chicks and friends continued to flourish with their friends on the sanctuary which had been named in honour of the patriarch of Carla and her biological family, Blu and, with the exception of the occasional visit to the their relatives in the tribes and clans on the Sanctuary de Amazon in the Amazon rainforest, among them Blu, D'Artagnan, Brisa, Aurora, Athos, Porthos, Aramis, Phoebe and Levi and their respective mates Jewel, Sapphire, Roberto, Zephyr, Ruby, Orquidea, Esmeralda, Cobalto and Lapis Lazuli, and also flying foxes and leaders of the mixed flying fox-and-bird clan, Augustus and Melissa, Carla and company had raised their offspring on the Blu Bird Sanctuary and those offspring had grown from chicks and pups into either adolescents, older chicks or adults.
As the second generation of the main cast had grown, their features had remained largely the same though the main change they underwent was that in size, especially the hyacinth macaws.
Justin and Carla's three daughters Sonia, Spica and Melody; Bia and Virgil's three sons Sirius, Einstein and Miles; Tiago and Matilda's two chicks Byron and Bellatrix, and Charlotte and Músculo's son Jason had grown into beautiful and handsome adolescent Spix macaws, along with Finnick and Kira's chicks Achernar, Diego and Polaris; Felix and Turquesa's son Cody, and Lavender and Garrett's daughter, Lilac. Finnick, Felix and Lavender were the first-brood children of Roberto and Brisa and the older siblings of Oberon and Ophelia; the cousins of Justin, Charlotte, Matilda and Virgil, and Aquamarine and Azurite (Zephyr and Aurora's offspring). Kira was Blu's biological niece and the cousin of Carla, Bia and Tiago and their two younger siblings, Luke, Linda and adopted brother Eddie who had come from Myrtle's family and adopted into Blu's family after they had perished. Because of this complex family relation this flock of Spix macaws shared, they were like a little clan. The chicks' features were largely the same with Sonia taking on a dark blue version of her mother Carla, Sirius maintaining his unusually vivid blue plumage and Bellatrix maintaining the flick of downy feathers on her neck and chest, much like her father Tiago.
The growth from chicks into adolescents was also true of the other members of Carla and company's circle of friends. The two chicks of one of D'Artagnan and Sapphire's first-brood daughters, Jasmine and her mate Finn, Vega and Regulus, had grown into beautiful and handsome adolescent Lear's macaws with Regulus closely resembling a male version of his maternal grandmother Sapphire due to his Roberto-like head feathers. Jasmine had continued to live on the Blu Bird Sanctuary with her mate, son and daughter while her sisters, Miranda and Annette, had chosen to remain on the Sanctuary de Amazon with their parents and younger siblings, D'Artagnan and Sapphire's second brood chicks named Ozzy and Lola. The same was true for Athos, Ruby, Porthos and Orquidea's first-brood offspring; Alexandre and his sisters Spinel and Poinsettia, and Wilbur and his brother Azul. Alexandre and his mate Estelle raised their single son, Sol on the Blu Bird Sanctuary with Spinel and her half-scarlet, half-green-winged mate Sheldon, and their two daughters, Betelgeuse and Rigel and son Antares; Poinsettia and her blue-and-gold mate Wilbur who was also one of Porthos and Orquidea's sons and their four Catalina (scarlet/blue-and-gold hybrid) offspring Adenine, Guanine, Thymine and Cytosine, and Azul, his mate Brooke and their chicks Alegria and Thomas. The two sisters of Azul and Wilbur and Porthos and Orquidea's second brood children and daughters, Amalthea and Desdemona, both of who were now young adult macaws, continued to live on the Sanctuary de Amazon.
Aramis and Esmeralda's first-brood chicks, Petunia and Chlorophyll, were also residents of the Snactuary de Amazon with their respective mates, scarlet macaw Benjamin (who was one of Pearl and Felipe's sons and a cousin of Alexandre, Spinel and Poinsettia) and military macaw Ashley, and their chicks Altair, Aldebaran and Perdita. The same was true for both of Phoebe and Cobalto's two first-brood offspring, Zebedee and Indigo and their respective mates Iris and Victor whose chicks were Celeste, Castor and Pollux, and Sugilite; and glaucous macaws Tristan, Trixie, Neytiri and Aiden and their chicks Katniss, Canopus and Arcturus. Some recent additions to Carla and company's circle of friends, such as Frodo and Ellie the Cuban macaws and their son Sylvester; flying foxes Sebastian, Stella and Luna and the families of the former two siblings; Sebastian's mate Anabelle, daughter Acerola and son Ferdinand, and Stella's mate Soren, son Sandalwood and a new addition to the family, a daughter named Rutile, along with a grey-headed flying fox named Connie; archaeobirds Spyro, Marella and their son Bambi and toucans Diantha, Gladion and Lillie were also Blu Bird Sanctuary residents. Due to the number of families and friends, Carla and company were certainly like a clan in their own right.
Most of the other second generation offspring besides the Spix chicks were adolescents but Celeste, Castor, Pollux and Sugilite were still pre-adolescents due to the maturity age of their species, the hyacinth macaw being around seven years while Sandalwood, Rutile, Acerola and Ferdinand, along with Connie, were now young adults due to flying foxes reaching maturity much earlier than the birds, around one to two years. And as the second generation offspring excluding the flying foxes either prepared to go through the main defining feature of adolescence, puberty, or were going through it, new challenges were set to arise for the parents. The flying foxes who were now young adults had already been through this but they still posed a challenge for their parents during that period, but not that period was in the past, and some of them were considering finding mates and having their own pups. Sandalwood and Connie, however, had already become a couple but they had no plans on having pups yet, and some of the adolescent birds had already begun dating though most of their parents were extremely wary, as we will see later. And while Carla and company and their offspring continued to otherwise thrive in the jungle, in the city of Rio, their city friends were also flourishing.
The only three chicks of Travis the sulphur-crested cockatoo and his Major Mitchell's mate Sunset, Eustace, Milo and Rosa, were also doing well with Eustace living with his two now-grown-up children Yolanda and Vincent and his sulphur-crested mate Serena, the mother of the two children; and Rosa doing the same with her grown up daughter Peach and her citron-crested mate Clemont. Peregrine falcons Cometa and Lightning's two chicks, Orion and Velocity also continued to live with their grown-up chicks with their respective mates, merlin Hermione and peregrine falcon Riker who was Velocity's replacement mate after Velocity's first mate, Merlin had died during the events of the previous story. Velocity still had her daughter from her first pairing, Zelda while Orion and Hermione had their two hybrid chicks, son Hunter, named after his deceased brother, and daughter Eris. The main cast's mammalian friends, among them Broccoli the cat, were also thriving in Rio, and another key thing to note, the five golden fruithawks who were the offspring of the late Aurum and Gylfie, both of who had died in the previous story, and the two white-and-silver owls, had also grown into beautiful adolescents. Because they were now approaching the appropriate age of having chicks, work had been poured into looking for individual fruithawks that will serve as mates for the quintet of siblings for they will not be able to produce viable and reproductively-fit offspring due to the effects of inbreeding that came with the mating of close relatives, especially siblings.
The five fruithawks, named (in birth order), Ganymede (male), Gardenia (female), Samara (female), Gylfie (female, named after her mother) and Comet (male), were the last known fruithawks on earth, while the two white-and-silver owls, Aragorn (male) and Raya (female) were the last known owls of their species, and the ornithologists were worried that if no fruithawk and owl that was unrelated to them was ever found, the golden fruithawk and white-and-silver owl species would face certain extinction, so these seven individuals were VERY precious indeed. The five fruithawks and wo owls had been raised both by Carla and company, the city animals and Tulio and his team who ensured that all seven of the precious individuals survived to reproduction-capable adult age, though it had not been an easy task to accomplish. Aside from this worrying fact, and the facts associated with Carla and company, such as the psychological fears and issues some of the second generation offspring still have due to the traumatic events of the previous story, such as Aldebaran with his fear of water, Acerola with her claustrophobia and Betelgeuse with her self-esteem over her toeless left foot and scarred forehead above the left eye, (both souvenirs from the fire of the Blu Bird Sanctuary thanks to Sofia and her comrades' selfishness), things were just fine right now.
