Hello readers,

I am a die hard fan of Delena and this is my first ever story, so please show some kindness and love. Constructive criticism is completely welcome, but please make sure to review. In this story, I have mentioned a lot about physical limitations, but it is not at all meant to hurt anyone. Please, don't be offended if you hate any references, because I don't have any experience in writing. It's just a light hearted story, which talks about self-acceptance. And, if you feel triggered because of anything please feel free to leave. I will not mind. :)

I have read a lot of great DE fanfiction and I am not sure whether I will be able to do justice to these characters through my story, but I so wanted to write a DE/AU, that I just started without thinking much.

I don't own The Vampire Diaries or any of these characters, but this story is my own creation. So be a sweetheart and please review, I will be so grateful. Now, enjoy.

Dear Diary,

Today will be different, it has to be. I will smile and make it through. I will say 'I am fine, Thank you.' or 'Yes, I am feeling much better.' I will no longer be the helpless and miserable young woman who lost her parents, career and ability to walk all in one go. I will start afresh, be someone new. That's the only way I will prove my strength. After almost a year, I am feeling excited about something again, but nervous too. So, fingers crossed.

P. S.- Wish me luck.

Closing her diary, Elena Gilbert looked out of her window. Yes, she believed that today would bring a change to her otherwise monotonous, rather despondent life. She saw the lush green leaves of the nearby trees that were shining under bright sunlight, the freshly mowed grass of the lawn glittering due to leftover dew drops and the squirrels running to and fro on the branches, without any care of the world. She wished for that, a life without any worries, with nothing to hold her back... but, that was a thought for another time. Today, she needed to attend to more important things, after all having an interview after an year of staying at home was not an easy thing. But, if you come to think of it, switching careers was definitely scarier than that. So, Elena had promised herself that she would work hard and do whatever it takes to prove her worth to the world.

Feeling hopeful, Elena looked at her feet and tried to raise them, it was hard, but, she had to do it anyway. She tried again, pushing herself towards the wheelchair, but, her lower body refused to move. However that didn't diminish her willpower. With a lot of effort she bent forward and pulled her wheelchair near her, then holding on to its handles she tried to push herself upwards, trying to have a steady placement of her feet on the ground. It hurt like hell, but she clenched her teeth and took a deep breath and tried harder. Finally, she was able to move a bit and with support of the nearby wall she raised her hip and stood on her legs. Although, even before a moment had passed, her legs wobbled and she fell back on the window seat again.

Yes, this was her life now. Everyday, she had to struggle to shift herself back and forth from her wheelchair. One year ago, when she had woken up in a hospital feeling weak and drowsy she thought that it was a nightmare. But, no matter how many times she rubbed her eyes the colourful and positive world around her seemed to get blurry and eventually faded out. She thought it was the end. Had it not been for her little brother, Elena would surely have given up. But she was determined to stay strong and keep fighting her fate, because Jeremy had no other family except her and he was her only hope.

The initial days after the unfortunate tragedy were bleary in her head, except for the intolerable pain and feeling of numbness taking over her whole being. However, with the encouragement of her Aunt Jenna and her best friend Bonnie, Elena had agreed to go for therapy soon after the incident and thus she had slowly started accepting the reality. When after a week's stay in the hospital, the doctor's had told her that she would not be able to walk like before it seemed as if someone had dropped a bucket of ice on her head. But now, after months of therapy and working on her self-confidence she felt that she should move on. She wanted to make the most out of whatever she had.

So what, if she had to start as a clean slate even after being at such a successful point in her career? People are faced with adverse situations all the time, and it is upto them whether they succumb to their misfortune or get up and fight back, and Elena Gilbert was not one to back down either. She was ready to go out and find her place in the world again. The once lively, cheerful, optimistic Elena Gilbert was ready to shine once more and live her life 'queen size' that too without any regrets.

So, this was just the prologue, the chapters will be longer. Though initial chapters will not have much of Damon, it will be focused on Elena's life and will be from her POV. Don't worry, I promise, it will not bore you to death. So, please don't abandon me and my story, *cries*, thanks in advance.*sniffs*

Please review, does my writing suck?
