WAR OF THE WORLDS

Chapter 1

An eerie silence crowded the room. The dark décor only contributed to the somber mood. He sat on a sofa with one leg folded on his other lap. He had his hand on his chin. It looked like he was critically thinking about something.

"Master Wayne?" a voice interrupted.

"yes Alfred...' he responded in a husky voice, clearing his throat in the process.

"Is everything okay sir?" Alfred asked with concern written all over his face.

"Well, nothing has ever been okay," he answered without bothering to look at the asker.

Alfred saw that something big was eating up Bruce inside. But he was Batman! What could possibly have him this low? But the fact that he was human bound him to concern too.

Bruce stood up from his seat and walked passed Alfred, towards a counter and leaned against it.

Alfred turned to face him.

'We need to call everyone up," Bruce spoke.

His loyal work mate just stared cluelessly at him. Who was everyone?

"Everyone sir…?" Alfred asked; hesitant in his speech.

Bruce did not respond; he just stared at him sternly. Alfred just quickly walked off. He figured out that everyone was those 'hero friends' of his.

After the Steppenwolf incident, a said Martian man hunter; showed up informing him about a danger that was to come. From their onwards, he repeatedly visited Bruce to feed him information about what was coming. But Bruce chose to hide it from everyone. With the newfound peace, everyone was happy and he did not want to ruin that.

Clark especially.

He felt guilty because of what had transpired. But he could not hold it in no longer. They needed to know.

FEW HOURS LATER

'Didn't know you'd miss us so soon,' a voice said.

Bruce stared up and stood from where he sat. "Diana.' He welcomed, with a little smirk on his face.

It was the legendary warrior; the princess of Themyscira! Looking dashing as ever.

A loud thud interrupted the moment. This captured both Bruce and Diana's attention.

'what now, Bruce?" a voice said.

"Arthur" Bruce welcomed.

It was the Atlantean king. The king of the seas. With his mighty trident in hand.

He just rolled his eyes and walked towards them and looked irritably at Bruce.

" It's been a year, hoped for a little….reunion' defended Bruce in attempt to soften the moment.

Arthur looked at Diana in disbelief. She just chuckled.

'What have I missed?!' Barry came in holding a box of pizza.

Bruce raised his eyebrow.

'What? I need my calories' Barry defended. 'At least victor understands me.'

Victor approached with his metallic ring to his walk

'I just ignore everything' he said walking passed Barry. 'Pretend to never see a thing'.

Apparently, Barry and victor had become close over the time.

But Despite Barry's quirkiness; the little guy saved them and they all respected and appreciated that.

'So…is this a party or something like that? Coz if it's a party, the party planner needs to give you your money back,' Barry babbled while looking around the highly depressing room.

'It's not a party, Barry,' Bruce responded.

'What is it now? Is it those alien…flying man eaters…again? Barry asked confused.

"And kal-El? 'Diana asked.

'Clark will be here soon. Married men' Bruce responded in a mocking tone.

Everyone shared a chuckle.

'I don't stand to be ridiculed, you know' a voice came in.

It was Clark.

'Talking of the devil', Diana said.

'Took you long enough' Bruce complained looking at a Clark who was approaching them.

'Married men,' Clark smirked.

'Okay, you've beaten me' Bruce slightly raised his arms in defeat.

'So what's this disturbance about?' Clark asked while he folded his arms.

Suddenly, a man came in and he shape shifted into a green creature.

'You can call me Martian man hunter,' he introduced.

Everyone else stood surprised about this stranger. Their faces bathed in curiosity. Except for Bruce of course.

'Well he'll be the one to explain everything' Bruce informed.

Everyone rounded up around a table. Eager to hear what everything was about.

He explained about how Steppenwolf was just a minion and how there was a more dangerous and powerful being behind everything. At that moment, shivers ran down everyone's spines. Oh how their muscles tensed up! They thought everything was over but they stood corrected.

'Darkseid huh? You m…mean like…the king of the…fly people? Barry asked.

'Parademons' victor corrected, looking at Barry.

'You can say that,' the Martian responded. 'Steppenwolf was not just here to destroy the planet for his pleasure. Darkseid was on a quest to find the anti-life equation, which would give him extreme and unlimited power to control the universe and to destroy it also. It has been said that the equation had been found…here…on your planet. So he is coming. But we cannot let him get to it. He would erase all life like he has done to the other planets.The universe is in danger.'

'So you're saying…this guy is even more powerful than that other git?' Arthur asked with a raised eyebrow.

'Most likely. 'The, Martian responded.

'Wow' the Atlantean kind said. Worry swam in the pools of his piercing eyes.

So…how to defeat him…?' victor came forward.

'Well…there is a device…the Mayr ( mayer) degenerator.' The Martian answered.

'Excuse me what?' Barry asked in confusion.

'It is of complex technology. It could be used to eat up the equation and darkseid would not be able to get his hands on it' the Martian added.

'But...' Bruce interrupted,' I don't have the entire necessities to pull this off'

'We don't have the material..? ' Diana asked with concern and shock written on her face.

'Yes' Bruce responded solidly. 'Well, We have some of the equipment yes….just not all of it. The machine is really complex. It's like trying to make a mother box. But I've heard of a guy…his technology is a little over the top so I'm sure he'd have what we need.'

Everyone just stared at Bruce.

'Tony stark' Bruce announced.
