Hope you enjoy this little one shot of what I would think would be a cool way to do the return of Kara from the phantom zone. So happy Supergirl's back on TV. Just sad its the last season. Roll on every episode being as good as the first one

It was a little past 10 when Alex finally rocked up at Kara's apartment door. She didn't actually know why she had turned up here, it was not like her bubbly sister was waiting for her. But regardless Alex pulled her spare key out and opened the door to the ghostly apartment. Memories flooded back of sister nights and game nights with the super friends, swallowing the lump that resided in her throat Alex stepped in and placed her helmet on the table. Slumping on to Kara's couch, Alex pulled out her phone and rang her sister's number, just wanting to hear her voice one more time.

It had been coming onto 6 months since Kara was beamed up to the Phantom Zone by Lex, and not one day had gone by that Alex had not tried to find a way to bring her back. Lena, J'onn, Brainy and Nia had all tried their hardest but no one had had a breakthrough yet. It was coming though, Alex could feel it. There was no way Alex was giving up hope.

Alex awoke to her phone ringing, not realising she had nodded off on the couch, "hello" Alex whispered, still trying to rub off the remnants of sleep.

"We think we've finally found a way. We need you here asap!" Lena proudly states down the phone.

"Oh my god.. urm.. okay, i'll be there soon" Alex spluttered out, now fully awake.

"Ok good, see you soon... And Alex... get here safely." Lena mentioned before hanging up the phone.

Alex's heart rate increased, the thrill of the chase of maybe finally having the answers on how they were getting Kara back playing heavily on her conscience. The only thought she had was of her sister, she couldn't take another failed attempt.

It took Alex 10 minutes to get across the City to Lena's labs on her bike, cutting through the streets easily due to the time of night, all other National City residents snoozing away without any worries. Sticking her bike in one of the empty parking bays, Alex sprinted into L Corp and down the stairs to the labs where she found everyone waiting.

"Sooo, whats your idea?" Alex spoke, the tension heavy on her heart.

"We may of found a way to teleport one of us there using a mixture of Nia's astro projection and one of Lena's portals." J'onn mentioned.

"But we've tried both in the past and they didn't work?" Alex sighed, tired of constant setbacks.

"I've done some more calculations, and by using both together the success rate grows exponentially." Brainy cut in, fearing if he did not Alex may walk out.

"Explain." Alex said, giving all her attention to Brainy.

"Okay. So. We will astro project one person to these coordinates" Brainy said whilst bringing up a powerpoint of his plan "and whilst that person is there, I will open a portal so that we can guide Kara to it and get her out."

"And who's going?" Alex finally said after a couple minutes of processing.

"I would go, but i'm best staying here to make sure everyone goes smoothly" Lena piped up.

"Me too, I may be needed, so I will also stay, Brainy and Nia will both need help." J'onn said.

"We thought you would be fine with it." Lena said to Alex.

"I was going to tell you all anyway that I'm going. There was not a doubt in my mind that I was going to let anyone but me go." Alex smiled. "So how will it work?"

Nia stood up from her chair and walked over to Alex. "Easy, what I'll do is get you to lie down on one of the beds over there, and Brainy is going to place some of them linkage's on our head, so that I can share minds with you. Once we're connected I'll astroproject you to the Phantom Zone."

Alex nodded her head, understanding the plan that was about to happen in the coming minutes. "Sounds good. I'm down, I am getting my sister back. Today."

"Once there Alex, you need to find her, and get her to the place you start off at." Brainy chipped in. "The portal will only appear where we start you from, and it will only be open for a short amount of time. So Alex you need to find her quick. We have one shot at this, after this that portal will be destroyed and we can't reuse it."

"Don't worry, I will not be coming back without her." Alex said, determination shining through.

"Okay, lets do this." Lena smiled.

Thoughts rushed through Alex's mind, how was Kara going to cope seeing her? Would she think it was fake? Was she actually going to be able to find Kara? Was she going to be hurt? Would she get them out of there in time?

J'onn sensed Alex's mind rushing, heading over to her he placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, knowing how hard it had been over the recent months for Alex, and surely Kara too. "You go get our girl." J'onn said reassuringly. Alex nodded and hugged him tightly, knowing J'onn always had her back.

Walking back towards the bed, Alex laid down and got comfy, Brainy popped over and placed the metal headpiece on her head, and whispered "be careful" into Alex's ear. She looked up into his ears and smiled.

"I've got this." Alex said.

"Lets do this" Nia said, standing next to Alex with a matching metal headpiece.

Within seconds Alex woke up in a dark, derelict landscape, swallowing down any fear she had Alex realised it had actually worked. This had to be the phantom zone. Looking down at her watch she set her stopwatch off, she had 30 minutes to find Kara and get her back to this spot. Once all set and ready, Alex finally set off in search of her sister.

The phantom zone really lived up to its name, Alex felt cold and nervous being there, random screams heard in the distance, knowing nothing good was on the road ahead. 10 minutes had gone by with still no sign of Kara. Alex's heart was beaten faster this couldn't happen, she was not getting out this place without her.

Finally after another 5 minutes, Alex stumbled upon a figure crouched on the floor wearing a red and blue costume. Suddenly her heart sank, she could just hear the figure shakily whispering the names of people she recognised.

"Lena... James... Nia... B..Brainy...J'onn...Al...Alex...Lena..." Kara muttered.

"Kara, it's me. Alex." Alex whispered, not wanting to scare her sister.

"Alex?" Kara said questioningly, looking up. Eyes furrowing she then said with more convincingly "You're not real. No Alex can't be here!"

"No, no Kara it's real, I promise you. It's me. I've missed you so much. But I'm here now to take you home, you just need to follow me. I promise you're safe with me." Alex spluttered out.

"How can I trust you?" Kara said sadly.

"Because we're the Danvers sister's. And one thing about us is that we're stronger together." Alex said confidently.

Kara smiled a little at that comment, finally coming round to the idea. Heck, trusting this Alex could not be as bad as trying to trust the other hallucinations shes dealt with over the last couple months. "Ok. El Mayarah."

"El Mayarah" Alex replied. "Now come on Kara you need to follow me okay. I'll get you to the portal"

Kara stood on shaking legs and nodded her head, what was the worst thing that could happen. Alex noticed straight away how fragile Kara looked. The only thoughts running through her head was how did Kara survive this long? How much time was left for them? And how was she going to help Kara once they were back.

Checking her watch she noticed there was only 8 minutes left until there was no escape for Kara, and with the rate of pace Kara was showing it was going to be a close call. "Come on Kara, you're doing well, only a little bit further! You got this" Alex enthusiastically said, trying to coax Kara forward.

Kara sighed and nodded her head, she was determined to make this Alex happy, it felt different to the last time she had spoke to someone claiming to be 'Alex'.

The portal was a short distance away, Alex could finally see it. Her spirits lifted, looking at her watch they still had 4 minutes. She was going to make it. She was finally going to have her sister home where she belongs.

"Okay Kara, we're here. Walk through that portal and the super friends and myself will be waiting for you okay. I promise." Alex shouted.

Kara looked to the blue floating circle, fear residing in her. "Are you sure?"

"Yes I wouldn't lie to you Kar. Just go through, please!" Alex reassured her sister.

Sighing Kara agreed, "I'll see you on the other side"

Alex nodded and smiled, this was it. It was finally happening.

Alex awoke again and saw white lights overhead, taken a breath in she realised she was back. Lena on realising Alex was back with them walked up to her and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"Hey" Lena smiled.

"Where is she? Did it work?" Alex spluttered out like word vomit.

Lena laughed and looked away for a second, "We did it. Shes back, she passed out as soon as she passed through the portal, but she's okay, she's under the sunlamps to just help her out a bit"

Without a second thought Alex jumped off the bed and ran to the other room where the sunlamp bed had always been. On seeing her sister sleeping peacefully on the bed, Alex finally succumbed to all her emotions from other the last 6 months and fell to her knees crying. She finally felt complete again. After what felt like an eternity of crying, she finally was able to move her body again and walk to the chair placed next to Kara's bed and slump onto it. Placing Kara's hand into hers, no plans on ever letting it go.

Two hours later and Kara finally started to stir, she could feel pressure on her right hand, moving her head and looking to her right hand side Kara set eyes on the most beautiful sight, her sister, sleeping with her head resting on the bed and her hand still interlinked. It was real, the dream was a reality, she was actually home. Moving her hand slightly to try and get it out Alex's vice like grip so she could itch her other arm she accidentally woke her up. Alex rubbed her eyes trying to figure out what woke her up, finally noticing that Kara was awake. Her jaw dropped, and a wide smile appeared. "Oh my god! Kara!" Alex said, teary eyed.

"'Lex! I've missed you so much" Kara replied equally emotional.

"I've missed you too! But you're back now, and I'm never letting you out my sight again!" Alex said, with so much determination in her voice, Kara knew it was the truth.

"It was so horrible Alex. I don't ever want to go back there." Kara continued, tears fallen down her cheek.

"You are never going back there sis, not on my watch." Alex said, wiping the fallen tears off her sister's face.

"How can you be so sure?"

"Because i'm your big sister and i'll always protect you... i'm just sorry I couldn't stop that happening to you, or being able to get you out of there quicker." Alex said, her own tears now falling down.

"This wasn't your fault 'Lex. You got me out of there. And I love you for that." Kara said with new determination in her voice. She hates seeing Alex upset like this.

"El mayarah' Alex responded.

"El mayarah" Kara smiled.

The End

I may continue this one shot in the future as i've left it open for it. Let me know what you thought! And roll on the rest of this season. Going to be sad to see Supergirl end!
