Chapter:1
I could hear a couple birds chirping as well as a light breeze against my face and glasses as I sat up and pushed myself off of the green grass causing it to squish underneath my weight. It was then I realized something.
"WHERE AM I?!" I shouted at the top of my lungs ok maybe I'm dreaming but how come i can feel the wind on my face and the grass felt so real.
Let's backtrack a bit here. First I got out of bed this morning, then I went to work, got into an argument with my boss about overtime, then left and I went home.
Why can't I remember getting home but more importantly where I am, I don't seem to recall there to be sprawling fields anywhere near where I live let alone what appears to be an ocean to my left.
I say as I hear the splash of waves with a salty smell in the air. Might as well go and see if…."what?" Looking down at my clothes, I notice that I am wearing a white trench coat with grey and blue straps and underneath was a black long sleeved shirt and below that was some grey silk looking pants with a blue belt holding them up.
I also have a messenger bag around my shoulder resting on my left hip. This just keeps getting weirder and might as well see if there's anything in this bag.
I grabbed the messenger bag and pulled it out in front of me and i took a closer look at it two blue straps held the top of the bag it seemed to be made out of the same material as my new trench coat with the same color scheme of white grey and blue reaching for the straps i undid them and flipped open the top.
A purple vortex spinning in a counterclockwise motion is what greeted me."whaaat?" ok when i thought that this situation couldn't get any weirder it does "screw it"
i mumbled reaching into the vortex my hand felt cold like a cold fire but not enough to hurt it just felt incredibly strange' huh what's this' my hand brushed up against something that felt like paper grabbing it and pulling it out i was greeted with a black paper with shining gold letters.
"Congratulations your boring miserable life has come to an end" the letters shined up at me "I the great and powerful $##^ %, have decided to grant you a wonderful new life" huh a talking piece of paper and apparently i expected a piece of normal paper and who is this guy."
of course me being a kind and benevolent god i have given you three gifts" so this guy is apparently a god huh yep this is just getting weirder.
"the first gift is an object then i gave you a power and finally a skill now of course i won't tell you you're gifts after all where's the fun in that oh and three more things one the messenger bag and the clothes are free for now two your new race is elf and three this letter will explode in 10 9 8…" huh neat wait did this paper say elf and oh crap.
I quickly threw the paper I was holding as far away as I could and I ran over the hill I was standing on. A massive pillar of black and gold flames erupted from behind me causing me to turn around and look at the now 100 foot pyre of flame"...i can tell that I'm not going to like this rob"
as the flames slowly died out i walked over to the scorched earth the blackened land cracking underneath my feet standing in the center i look for any remains of the paper after all that was a lot of information to give then just suddenly destroy.
Not finding anything I sigh and rub my hand through my hair which now that I could feel it felt incredibly soft and clean and considering that I hadn't showered at least I think I hadn't showered in a few days was quite nice.
My hand continued to my ears. I had a suspicion but I wanted to confirm it. My hand touched my ears and yep the ends were pointed and even though I barely touched them they were quite sensitive.
So apparently a god picked me out of my world, gave me a power and an object, a skill then left me in the middle of nowhere… seems about right for a Tuesday' at least i thought it was a tuesday.
yet still a thought at the back of my mind kept pestering me' when did i become so detached that a god taking me and changing so many things about me barely phases me'.
Well no use standing around a ring of scorched earth I might as well go and see if that ocean i smelt earlier was indeed an ocean turning around and heading to the ocean i walked out of the black circle and atop a hill and lo and behold there it is a vast blueish green ocean that stretches as far as the eye can see.
might as well see if i can find any cities...wait if I'm an elf it would be far more likely that I'm in some sort of fantasy world that and considering the amount of fantasy that has elf's i could be in many many different worlds let alone ones that haven't been made in to something…
wait why am i assuming that I'm in something i know, anyway down the coast i go. As I walked to the shore the soft yellowish gold sand squished underneath my feet I looked to the sky realizing that I've been spacing out enough that I don't even know what time of day it is looking up and checking the position of the sun I'd say it looks like it's around noon.
Spacing out some more i realized that I've been walking for awhile and it's still the same thing a flat plain of green grass and an ocean to my right looks like I'm not gonna be able to find anything soon wait elevation i need a high up spot granted I'm in a plain but still a large hill would do nicely. Walking away from the shoreline I tried to spot a large hill.
It took a few minutes but I eventually spotted a large hill walking to it and climbing to the top of it. I finally managed to get a look at the surrounding area. 'Well that's something' far in the distance was what looked to be a river with a few trees growing along side it
'at least it's a start' readjusting my bag and walking to the river i spaced out a few times but eventually 45 minute later i made it to the river
'it was farther away than i thought it was well might as well see if i can find a place to sleep' the river was 30 feet across and from where i was standing it seemed quite deep and not wanting to risk it i just stayed on this side of the river.
2 minutes later I found a nice tree that was growing a few feet out from the river with long branches that hung over the river and large roots spread all around and into the river as well.
Climbing the tree i noticed just how easy it was to climb even though it stood a good 15 feet tall 'probably a benefit of being an elf' i guessed as i finished climbing now nestled in the heart of the tree top,
I once again checked the time and assuming my earlier guess was right it now looked to be 7 or 8 in the afternoon soon the sun would set and night would claim the world.
Reaching for my bag which was still around my shoulder I reached into the vortex and tried to see if there was anything that I could pull out of it fiddling around with it now on my lap.
I eventually touched something warm and sleek. It felt like a polished stone that was bathing in the sun, grabbing it out and pulling the object out. I quickly realized just what I had pulled out of the bag.
The object was a sphere with squares surrounding it making it look like a shell with long grey spikes that were solid but bendable like a kind of rubber the shell. Was made out of 4 pieces there color was a bluish grey.
"Is this a ghost from destiny?" turning it around and looking into what is considered its eye i could see that the light was grey meaning this ghost was dead.
"why would i be given a dead ghost" poking it in its eye there was a pale blue arc of electricity that pulsed from my right pointer finger to the center of the ghost.
The ghost pulsed in a faint white light causing it to lift itself from my palm the one grey eye was now a sky blue the grey quills had the same pale colored electricity arcing between them making me think of a tesla coil.
"Guardian? "asked the now very much alive ghost hovering above my left hand.
"Where are we?" Crap did i steal someone's ghost or rather dead ghost.
"You didn't steal me in fact it's the opposite I'm your ghost and before you ask yes i can read your mind" the ghost said as it flew around me.
"Well that answers a few questions but still a few are left unanswered like for example how you came to life how i pulled you out of that bag and last but not least am i a guardian?" Looking at the ghost that was now on my left I reached out to poke it.
"First don't try and poke me and second I'll answer your questions when you wake up"
Said the ghost as it flew out of my reach.
'I don't feel very tired' but as soon as I finished that thought I noticed just how drained I was as it turns out walking for miles and climbing a tree is an apparent way to tire yourself out and with that I passed into a dreamless sleep.
"Eyes up Guardian" the ghost zapped me a bit with what I assumed to be electricity making me snap awake.
'Now where was i again oh right a crazy god dropped me in the middle of nowhere with nothing but a trench coat, a mysterious bag and now a ghost from destiny'.
"I'm up I'm up now could you possibly tell me where i am last thing i remember i was in a tree by a river not a tree in a forest with no river"
i said whilst looking around noting that i did indeed somehow move to a forest filled with buzzing insects and with a thick scent of rain.
"Well here is the fun part: you've been asleep for awhile 3 and a half weeks to be exact and as for why were now in a forest that I do not entirely know,"
said the ghost who was now hovering above my left shoulder whilst scanning over the environment.
"Well thanks for being so helpful but really 3 and a half weeks that's a bit much isn't" i said whilst looking down at my leaf covered legs.
i then looked to my right and saw that the tree i was in was apparently just as high as the one i fell asleep in.
"Well yes, bu-"the ghost was cut off as it suddenly became still in fact everything around me became still the noise of the insects disappeared and then a humanoid figure made of black and gold flames appeared at the base of the tree the figure looking up at me signed apologetically before waving its hand and a black paper much like the one from earlier appeared on my lap then the black figure disappeared leaving time to resume.
"-t not for a guardian and what is that paper?" questioned my ghost as it flew over to inspect it.
"Don't scan this letter ghost you won't be able to find anything about it" the paper responded with a line of gold text then went on to explain to me.
"I'm sorry about my boss and for the fact that you don't really have any explanation i would talk in person but i need to attend to the other unfortunate cases well either way names shadow and for a more detailed account of where you are you are now in world 4417 but you may know it as middle earth"
'ok my strange events are going to continue it seems' however reading the world that i was in made a smile creep across my face and to say i was excited to be in one of my favorite fantasy worlds was quite the understatement.
"now i can't tell you the skill or object that you got and i think you already know the power you received but i can tell you where you are and roughly the time period previously you were in the far northwest corner of middle earth about 1,200 miles away from Hobbiton and as an apology i moved you to a forest just south of Hobbiton.
it is now 2 days before the events of the hobbit your clothes by the way are an armor set from the world 5789 and with that i wish you the best of luck on this journey".
the gold letters then fizzled out followed by the black paper turning to ash but not before one more line appeared on the bottom of the paper.
"oh i almost forgot to tell you use that bag with caution it can create anything inorganic but it has a price as you have no doubt experienced"
And with that the last of the paper turned to ash leaving me and my ghost sitting in the tree.
"Well guardian i can say that paper was quite interesting" i noticed that my ghost had now disappeared meaning that it was probably in a pocket dimension at least that's what i assumed anyway.
Nodding my head to the ghost I said to him "you're right about that paper but honestly I'm just glad that the god who dropped me here has some competent employees" brushing off the leaves from my legs and shoulders.
I moved to jump off the tree. Scooting along the trees center and coming to a large tree branch I slid on top of said branch and then jumped off and onto the forest floor.
Landing on the floor in a crouch I stood up and stretched.' ya know now that I'm a guardian at least I'm pretty sure that i am, doing things like jumping off of trees and walking for miles barely even seems to tire me' i thought when i finished my stretches.
Now where should I go ? The letter said south of Hobbiton so I suppose that I'll go north. There's no way that I'm gonna miss joining the company. 'Wait I'm an elf aren't i that, is going to be a problem'
Sighing at myself for my lack of self awareness, I asked my ghost something: "What do you think ghost, is there a way that I can join a company that hates elves? And consequently me?" i said whilst i started walking north and hopefully out of the forest.
"hmm looking through your memories and seeing the various reactions id say your best bet is to either contact Gandalf or someone other than Thorin to see if you could join or at least help them on their journey" walking around a tree and pondering my options i couldn't help but ask
"so if you can read my mind then do i really need to talk out loud" i questioned while i stepped over a tree root and onto a pile of wet leaves. "no you don't need to talk out loud but i figured that it would be easier for you that and spending so much time in someone else head can really got on someone nerves"
Replied my ghost his robotic voice sounding throughout my head "alright then i suppose well continue to talk like this then and want me to call you anything else other than ghost"
i asked whilst almost tripping on a sudden dip on the floor this forest was incredibly unruly granted most forests were but still my point still stands.
"ghost is fine anything that you want me to call you other than guardian? "questioned my ghost with a hint of amusement at my poor attempts to traverse the gnarled roots and rocks of the forest floor.
"yeah actually call me by my name…"stopping suddenly "you have a name?' questioned my ghost and he was right to question me.
I have a name but I can't remember it. Nothing is coming up and the more I focused the more I realized the gaps that were in my memory like what my family looked like, where I lived, and what my name was."...no i can't remember i know i had one but i can't remember what it was i can come up with fake ones but i don't know my own"
my ghost appeared in a crackle of electricity even though it didn't have a face i could get the feeling that it felt like it was sympathetic.
"Most guardians can't remember their names or even the life that they held before they were resurrected. I'm sorry guardian. I really am" my ghost and I stared at each other. My mind was racing with thoughts about what I lost and only now seemed to realize that I may not be able to get them back.
"it's fine ghost it wasn't your fault if anything i guess this means that i have a clean slate hear granted i have knowledge of the future but still even though I'm lost the best thing i can do is to move forward"
sighing and looking to the clear blue sky above i now realized two things i was going to make new memories and have new experiences but most importantly i was going to see all this world had to offer. Picking up my pace and looking at the trees which were just now starting to thin I looked to my ghost.
"how about we explore this new world and all it has to offer" i said while lifting up my left palm my ghost flew over to it and fizzled out in a crackle of electricity
" Yes guardian, let's see" said my ghost in my head. Walking to the forest edge and getting out of the forest I could see a long clear river far in the distance and a few yards in front of me was a small road heading to a town.
"off to Bree we go ghost, but first i should probably go and see what i look like".
