This is my first story so reviews are appreciated. This is also a reupload. I posted this story here years ago but deleted it. I hope to actually continue this time as well as improve on some things.
It was a peaceful day in Konoha. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and there hadn't been sign of trouble from Orochimaru or the Akatsuki in months. Just peace and quiet…well, it was until Team 7 set out on their latest mission.
Earlier that day…
The Fifth Hokage, Lady Tsunade sat at her desk rubbing her temples, mentally making a note to herself that she was going to need more Sake after Team 7 left her office. A lot more of it.
Shizune stood in her usual spot by the Hokage's desk, holding Tonton and sighing at the scene before them.
Team 7 had just been informed of a new mission and were expressing their thoughts on the situation in their own little ways. Sakura was yelling and hitting Naruto like she always does when he says or does something stupid, while Naruto was begging her to "Cut it out!"
Yamato and Sai awkwardly stood either side of the blonde and pink pair, knowing the Hokage's patience was running out, but not willing to get punched by Sakura trying to stop her.
Then finally there was Kakashi. Kakashi was doing what he normally does when Naruto starts complaining about missions. He got out his precious copy of Icha-Icha Paradise and ignored the madness around him.
This went on for over ten minutes before Tsunade finally lost it.
"Shut it!" she snapped. "That's enough Naruto, Sakura! Yamato, Sai I thought you might have done more to stop them then just stand there! And Kakashi! Maybe if you would pay more attention to your team and teach them to behave instead of constantly staring at that damn pervy book, then maybe we could all have a calm, civil conversation about the mission for once!"
Sakura laughed nervously before bowing "so sorry, Lady Hokage."
"Haha, sorry granny Tsunade." The blonde ninja gave her a guilty half-smile and rubbed an extra sore spot on his head, courtesy of Sakura.
Yamato and Sai both flinched at the Hokage's outburst and looked to the ground.
Kakashi sighed sadly before putting his book away in its usual place. "Sorry Lady Hokage, I'll be sure to give them all a good talking to later."
"Never mind that…" Tsunade sighed. "Let's just get down to business so you can all leave and I can drink some Sake- I mean get on with my paperwork."
The Fifth paused and took a deep breath before continuing. "Your mission is…to start a Prank War."
Sai and Sakura just stood there in silence with shocked expressions on their faces.
Yamato was just as shocked and gave a puzzled look to Kakashi, but the copy-nin looked as though he wanted to be swallowed by the floor and disappear forever.
Naruto scratched his head in confusion. "Is this some kind of joke?"
Tsunade's only response was the shaking of her head. Naruto's confusion suddenly turned into joy, whereas the other 4 ninja's turned to horror.
"Come on guys, I thought you would be thrilled about this. Team 7 were personally chosen by the Feudal Lord of the Land of Fire and the Fifth Hokage for this mission", Shizune said disappointedly.
"Personally chosen by the Feudal Lord of the Land of Fire and the Hokage? What are you talking about Shizune?" Sakura questioned still in shock.
"Let me explain," Tsunade said, resting her head on her hand. "Up until now, a competition has been held between each Hokage and the Feudal Lord. It first began as a friendly bet between the Fisrt Hokage and Feudal Lord. They each chose three Ninja to form a team, who then compete to prank everyone in the Hidden Leaf Village. Ever since, each Hokage and Feudal Lord has continued the tradition, which brings us to your assignment."
Tsunade stood up from her desk and slammed her hands down on the table, "Sai! Yamato! You two have been chosen by the Feudal Lord of the Land of Fire to form team Ashe."
"Yes, Lady Hokage" Sai and Yamato said simultaneously, though still sounding worried about what they had just heard.
"Now," Tsunade said pointing towards the remaining members of team 7, "Naruto! Sakura! Kakashi! The three of you have been chosen by me, the Fifth Hokage to form team Shadow."
"Yes, Lady Hokage," said the pink and silver haired Ninja.
"Hey, wait a minute granny!" said Naruto, "what about the other member of team Ashe? They only have two members when you said they should have three. So who's their teammate?"
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
"It's about time you showed up!" Tsunade shouted towards the door as it began to open.
Naruto pointed at the lazy Ninja who was rubbing his head and leaning against the door frame. "Shikamaru!"
Tsunade sat back down again and sighed, "Shikamaru, you will be the final member of team Ashe. Yamato and Sai will fill you in on the details later."
"This is such a drag" Shikamaru breathed heavily while moving to stand with the other two.
Shizune walked forward and handed two identical looking scrolls to Kakashi and Yamato. "These are the rules for your mission. Read them once you've decided on a base of operations."
"Right," Tsunade said smiling, "you have the rest of today to go over any plans and prepare for tomorrow. The Fifth Great Shinobi Prank War begins at dawn."
With that, the two teams set off to prepare for the following day.
