Saiyan Roots

Chapter 1: Planet Plant

A wonderful breeze swept around me as I continued my farmwork. Rather strong, but with a day as hot as this, it felt the best. With a basket of roots and veggies, I headed to the river to collect some water. It's about breakfast-time and boy, am I hungry. Tonight was the night of the full moon! My father, my father's father, and his father as well were unable to witness it. I'll make sure to take it in as best I can. I'll etch the moment into my soul for them. I fill my buckets and head home to prepare breakfast. Not much happens here. I tend to stay isolated from my village, but I do visit the old chief and the children to provide them some food. Now that I think about it, that day's tomorrow. I need to make sure my bundle is packed well before I leave.

"Hey, Burlot, what's this one like?"

"The people are mostly peaceful, and there's no reported contact from that bastard Frozon either."

"Good to hear it."

The Following Day

I got a pretty rock-solid yield yesterday, and the fruits of my labor were delicious as well. The kids will love this. Ah! Almost there. Amazing that the bonfire lasted so long.

"Hey, Vegeta! One's heading towards the town."

"Let them come."

I... I can't... All of them are...

A terrible breeze swept through my town, and before I knew it, everything was black.

The moving, and repopulation of the Saiyan Race went by without an issue. The planet was terraformed to their liking. Many, many years have passed, and two warriors meet for the second time on the field of battle.

"King Vegeta, you know I can't let you go through with this plan. You forget that our planet is in hiding. We can't put a target on our backs, or else we might really be defeated."

"Burlot, my friend. I wanted to ignore it for as long as possible, but I can go on no longer! By defying me, you are committing high treason against the royal family! I will not stand for this!"

"Heh... Sorry about this, old friend, but it's not just me."

"Wha-"

In an instant, the king receives a mighty blow to his face. He stumbles back in disbelief as the warrior stands between the two.

"My S-son!? You dare turn your hand against your father?"

"I turn my hand against the only threat my people face. I'd kill anyone if it meant protecting them. Worse is that you're the one that instilled that in me."

"Then, my son... No. In battle, we face each other as equals! Yamoshi! Show me that hope of yours so I can end it with your execution! As for you, Burlot, I have the people on my side. To them, you're the traitor."

Yamoshi charges forward with a guttural roar, his power surging forth. Platoons of the elite Saiyan warriors erupt from the barracks, surrounding Burlot, but being torn to shreds by Yamoshi. The King effortlessly blocked Yamoshi's blow, and landed one-inch punch to his chest, before firing ki blasts rapidly in his direction. The prince is pushed into the defensive before his hair begins to spark, and suddenly a golden aura emerges. Before the glow around him could disperse, the King was on the ground, coughing up blood. The glow cracks and shatters, revealing his piercing, blue eyes to his father for the last time. He charges a blast and fires, only to have the blast redirected by the King's right hand, Savoy.

"Hah, made it in time! I'll protect the King til' my last!"

He rushes forth, and catches the princeling's punch. Although the King was a powerful warrior, he lacked the martial prowess of his closest subjects. Clearly, that trait carried to his son. He flips him around and puts him in a full nelson.

"Your majesty, Take us both out! It's the only way to end him! And all of you! come assist me! We die for our king!"

'Hail Vegeta! Hail Vegeta!'

The rest of the Royal Platoon held down his legs and pushed from the front.

All of the King's energy is condensed into a fist.

"Savoy, you've bought me naught but moments of precious time to kill him, but they are the most precious moments of my life. Goodbye old friend... AND GOODBYE, MY SON! HRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!"

He releases the energy, and the entire battlefield is up in smoke. The King gasps for air and falls to his knees.

"Hah-hah... Heh. Heheheh. Hahhahaha! I've wo-"

"NOT YET!"

Bloodied and weak, Burlot delivers a kick to the King's face. Sputtering blood, The King rises to his challenge, only for the smoke to finally disperse. Yamoshi, kneeling on the ground, his golden aura a mere memory, holds a ki blast in his palm. The king's fear is palpable, but he refuses to back down.

"I should have known my own son would live that attack. Heh. Stubborn like your father, yet kind like your mother. I'll wipe you both off the face of the planet!"

The two warriors run towards the King, who ducks Burlot's punch and uses the momentum to bury his fist in his abdomen. Yamoshi lands a clean sweep on the King's feet, but as he follows up, Vegeta throws Burlot at him.

"GAH!"

"You thought I would give up so easily? Fools, the both of you!"

Yamoshi drops Burlot, but there's no response.

"The old fool kicked the bucket, eh? You're next!"

King Vegeta charges forward, and Yamoshi readies himself.

"THIS IS EVERYTHING I'VE GOT! BOW BEFORE YOUR KING!"

"YOU'RE NOTHING BUT A DECREPIT OLD FOOL! DIE!"

King Vegeta had just enough energy to create a ki saber. His hand cuts through Yamoshi's chest like butter.

Yamoshi didn't have much Ki left, but what little he did have was condensed into that singular blast. With just a touch to his father's chest, a hole is blasted through.

They lay on the ground, both stunned that they could have lost. But despite everything, Vegeta laughs. Yamoshi lies in confusion. Vegeta utters only one phrase

"He Lives."
