A/N: So, this is my very first fanfiction. It's in progress, so I don't know how it would turn out. I'm using Esmeralda into the story, though she would be a bit of OC as I don't know her character but I find her fascinating. Let me know what you guys think.
Disclaimer: I don't own anything mentioned in the story now do I make any monetary profit out of this. I'm writing this just for fun.

A noteworthy relation
Chapter 1
On the dawn of a beautiful morning, a beautiful woman was still asleep, shifting on her bed. A maid opened the curtains of the balcony next to her room. Soft rays of the sun fell on her skin, as the maid opened the glass door of the said balcony. Tossing and turning on the soft mattress beneath her, she woke up. Glancing around her surroundings, she sat up on her bed groggily. Although the lavish interior of the room was nothing new to her, she never felt much comfort in the confines of any room.
"Would you like to have your breakfast here or you would be joining Governor Swann sir in the blue parlour, ma'am?" the maid asked, waiting for her answer.
"I would be joining The Governor for breakfast Estrella," she replied with a tired smile. Feeling worn out, although she had just woken up.
"Would you be getting ready now ma'am? I'll fetch Mary and Anne immediately if you want," Estrella asked.
"In a moment my dear," she replied.
Getting up from bed, she went out into the balcony, hoping for some peace in her restless mind. Glancing at the morning sun and breathing in the fresh air, she let out a sigh of relief, feeling a little bit better. The chirping of birds and the sound of sea waves reached her ears, managing to calm her down a little. Her heart went out to the sea, reminding her of now bittersweet memories of her days on her ship. Although she missed her beloved ship and life at sea, her current life wasn't so bad. No, not bad, but then again it wasn't satisfactory either. With a sigh, she leaned forwards, placing her elbows on the railings. 'And besides, at least I have my niece here,' she thought. Indeed, the company of her niece was one of the very few pleasurable things remaining in her life. Diverting her mind before it could go back to the melancholy thoughts, she decided to head for breakfast.
She went to the blue parlour once she was dressed in a gown. Wearing heavy gowns still annoyed her, but she endured it as a necessary evil. She couldn't run around in a shirt and breeches when she had an image to uphold, now could she?
Seeing Weatherby Swann, the Governor of Port Royal, and husband of her late half-sister, already seated at his place, she greeted him with a smile.
"Good Morning, Esmeralda," he replied.
"I reckon Elizabeth has not aroused yet then?" She asked, taking her usual seat.
"No, I'm afraid not my dear," he replied with humour. "I was planning on gifting her this dress after breakfast, would you like to come along?" he asked, expecting she would say yes, as he mentioned for Estrella to show her the dress.
Lady Esmeralda Sevilla, his late wife's half-sister, and only living relative who was dear to both him and his daughter. While she was much younger than his wife, both ladies were still close. Esmeralda even stayed with them for a while in her younger years before going to a school of her grandfather's choice. After the death of his beloved wife, she became his shoulder to lean on, much like a younger sister he never had. He didn't know if he would have been able to raise Elizabeth without her presence. Although she didn't stay with them, she did visit quite often. She was a woman of strong character.
Elizabeth adored her aunt, who was not only closer to her in age but also a dear friend.
She was a beautiful woman, so he never understood why she never got married. It wasn't due to the scarcity of suitors, as he remembered quite a few who were firmly dismissed. She was a Spanish noblewoman, anyone would have been fortuitous to marry her. Nonetheless, he was thankful for her presence in their life.
"Of course, I would love to! Her smile is such a delight whenever she receives something from you," she replied in an encouraging voice as she could manage, sticking to the truth and trying to hide her grimace at the thought of another heavy dress with an impossibly tight corset.
"Elizabeth," Governor Swann knocked.
An unmistakable sound of something falling came from the room.
"Elizabeth… Are you alright?" he inquired again.
"Are you decent?" Esmeralda called out just as Elizabeth, her niece, opened her door.
"Yes," she replied, looking a little rattled.
"Still abed at this hour?" She teased, hoping to make her feel at ease from whatever was on her mind.
"Forgive me Aunt Esme, but the temptation of a comforting bed is too strong to be resisted, even by me." She answered back with a laugh.
"It's a beautiful day." The Governor pondered as a maid parted the curtains, glancing at the vast sea visible from the window. "I have a gift for you," he continued, hinting for the second maid to present the box containing the dress.
"Oh, it's beautiful!" She exclaimed when he had taken the lead away from the box. She pulled out the dress from the box merrily, bringing a smile on both her father and aunts faces.
"May I enquire as to the occasion?" Elizabeth quipped.
"Does a father need an occasion to dote upon his daughter?" He observed without losing a breath.
"No, perhaps not," she replied with a smile, heading towards the screen in the room along with maids to get dressed.
"Actually… I, um… I had hoped you might wear it for the ceremony today," he started with an uneasy smile.
Esmeralda glanced at him, a bit startled, but easily connecting the dots in her head while trying to repress a sympathetic wince.
"The ceremony?" Elizabeth enquired.
"Captain Norrington's promotion ceremony," he replied.
"I knew it!" she exclaimed, peeping at them from the curtains.
"Commodore Norrington, as he's about to become! A fine gentleman, don't you think?" he proclaimed, pride and delight for the achievements of the man visible in his voice, "He fancies you, you know." Hearing her gasp, he paused, "Elizabeth? How's it coming?"
"It's... difficult to say." She replied, sounding pained.
"I'm told that dress is the very latest fashion in London." He said, looking a bit sceptical.
"Women in London must have learned to not breathe," Elizabeth replied with a wince.
"That.. is a fair conclusion, my dear," Esmeralda responded from near the window, taking her gaze away from the picture of the town window presented.
The butler appeared in the doorway of the room just before Elizabeth came out from behind the screen.
"M'lord? A caller is here for you" He relayed.
"Of course, I'll be in the foyer," the Governor told them before heading downstairs.
"You look beautiful Lizzie," Esmeralda said as she embraced her niece. "Would you be able to breathe, dear?" She asked with a humorous twinkle in her eyes.
Elizabeth cringed, "that remains unseen as of yet aunt," making her aunt laugh merrily.
Both the ladies went downstairs to see blacksmith's apprentice, William Turner standing beside the Governor, holding a beautiful sword in his hands. Undoubtedly there to deliver it for soon to be Commodore Norrington.
"The blade is folded steel. That's gold filigree laid into the handle. Perfectly balanced. The tang is nearly the full width of the blade," Will said as he flipped the sword, before catching it and presenting it to the Governor.
Governor Swann took the sword appreciatively, "Impressive. Very impressive. Ah, now, Commodore Norrington is going to be very pleased with this. Do pass my compliments on to your Master. Hmm?" and passed it back.
"I'm sure he will brother," Esmeralda said just as she descended the stairs with Elizabeth.
"I shall, M'lady. A craftsman is always pleased to hear his work is appreciated," He replied, but his body language made it clear that he was the creator of the fine sword.
She stepped towards them and gestured for him to give her the sword. With a considerable amount of hesitation and uneasy glances in the Governor's direction, which annoyed her a little, he gave her the sword.
Running her finger on the polished part of the blade, she flipped it, much similar to what he had done, and caught it skillfully, surprising the young blacksmith.
"I apologize, ma'am, I was unaware you knew how to handle a sword," He said with blushing cheeks, embarrassed with his assumption.
'Both the Swann's are extraordinary, why should their guests be any different,' He thought with a smile.
"Aunt Esme's talent with swords is unparalleled," Elizabeth confessed with a proud smile.
"Oh, Elizabeth, you look absolutely stunning. And Mister Turner, Esmeralda is one of the best when it comes to swordplay" Governor said with a proud smile.
"Will, It's so good to see you. I had a dream about you last night." Elizabeth spoke up, enthusiastically.
"Dream about me?" He asked, amazed.
"Yes, well, is that entirely proper for you to...?" The Governor questioned.
"About the day we met, do you remember?" She clarified.
"How could I forget, Miss Swann?" He asked, enchanted.
"Will, how many times must I ask you to call me Elizabeth?" She asked, exasperated with his stubbornness.
"At least once more, Miss Swann, as always," He replied in a quiet voice.
Esmeralda did her best not to sigh or roll her eyes. It seemed she was doing that quite a lot lately. She could see that the lad was bestowed with her niece, and so was her niece. But then again, with all the societal norms and customs, she knew it wasn't going to lead anywhere. This was yet another reason she yearned for the sea, much fewer complications.
"There. See? At least the boy has a sense of propriety. Now, we really must be going," The Governor declared.
"Good day, Mr Turner," Elizabeth acknowledged, her voice cold.
"Good day…. Elizabeth," he mumbled once Elizabeth was out of hearing range inside the carriage.
Halting beside him on her way, Esmeralda couldn't help herself when she said, "Perhaps, you should follow your heart more often dear William," before getting into the carriage.
A/N: Although I haven't read books, whatever I found out about potc told me that Esmeralda was Pirate Lord of Caribbean before Jack, so I wonder what happened to her after the price of freedom..?
