Part 1: A New Dawn

Prologue

The horns sounded in the distance as the thunderous sound of hooves shook the ground. Murky black smog permeated the air covering the battlefield in a dark shadow. A scream pierced the air as a large chalky white beast penetrated the gloom and glided down beside the approaching army. The creature did not seem to consist of anything more than an enormous head with multiple tentacles like appendages trailing behind it. No wings could be seen on the creature, while it hovered above the approaching monster army and emitted a gut-wrenching scream. The monsters walked upright, like men, but were taller and moved with an unnerving unity. Pinkish red creatures with milky eyes, long ears, and pig snouts marched towards the military stronghold. A horn blared as the remains of houses and statues were heaped against the large extravagant doors that lead to the inner wall. A man, in his late twenties perhaps, scrambled up a pile of fallen debris and yelled for the evacuation of all troops and citizens within the stronghold. The shrine, the one place in every major settlement that allowed for the quick transportation of people and goods, was the only hope for the doomed fortress. As people streamed into the chamber, crystal beams of light expelled from the shrine and raced across the burning plains as they were transported to safety. With only a few stragglers and the rest of the guards remaining, a large crack emanated from the door. Only seconds after the crack, an explosion splintered apart the doors and the only thing that separated the guards from the oncoming wave of death, was demolished. Flames jumped about the ruined doorway, eagerly licking the walls and dousing the fortress in a crimson light. Through the bloody flames, the soldiers could see the dead eyes of the creatures that would bring about their ruin. A rumble in the distance turned into a roar as a large black shadow swooped over the ruined landscape. Another explosion hurled the rest of the debris from the doorway, clearing it for the oncoming army. Cries of terror escape the lips of the citizens who had not yet made it to the shrine. The Pilyot Army had arrived at the fortress, and they would do their best to make sure no one escaped. Bathed in crimson light, scores of Pilyan warriors stormed the inner wall. With a horse war cry, the remaining soldiers charge the oncoming Pilyots, hoping that they could buy enough time for the remaining citizens and wounded to escape. The screams of dying men and the clash of blades filled the air as the first group left. When the last group left, the crunch of axes butchering flesh could be heard as the last of the guards from the once-mighty stronghold of Theiren died.
