FOR NO CONFUSION SAVAGE LOVE IS AN ACTUAL SONG I'M WORKING ON, NOT THE ONE I LISTEN TO.
"Burr!" I say and snuggle into my blanket.
"Kittypaw? Are you cold? I'm cold too." my pet fox, Kaya yips from the shadows.
"Yes. Why don't you come up here and warm up?" I ask.
"Okay." She climbs up next to me and sighs.
Tomorrow is a big day for me and Kaya. Our first concert in Adventure Bay! I've heard lots of good things about this little town and hope to settle here. I write lots of songs, that's one of my jobs. I am also a veterinarian, I am taking a temporary pause in that job until I get settled in my new house, then I'll pick it right back up.
I wonder what people think about the concert. I hope they enjoy it!
Kaya snores softly. I just stare at my alarm clock, waiting for it to ring. I yawn.
Slate, my other fox, padded into my bedroom. "Are you awake?" She whispers.
"Yes. I'll get up in two minutes." I say, waiting.
"I'm glad you're awake. We've got a lot of practicing to do today!" Slate slides down onto her belly.
My alarm rings. "Ahh!" Kaya shrieks.
"It's just my alarm to get up, you're alright." I say and give her a pat between the ears.
She jumped down and dashed into the kitchen with Slate at her heels. I followed more slowly. I used to be able to run, jump, and play. But then my genetics said, "Nope, most people in your family have asthma. It's your turn!" I can imagine the evil laugh and everything. I grab my inhaler and my spacer and stuff them in the pockets of my vest.
"Mice! Mice! Mice! Mice!" The foxes chanted. I pulled down their box of dead mice.
They are still part wild, so I let them hunt on their own. It turned out to be a good idea in the long run, now I can use that extra money to build my clinic. I went to college for ten years. I am really ambitious, I wanted to learn everything about cats, dogs and foxes.
"I want a mouse!"My cat, Tiger, squeaked.
"Okay, mister. But you need to learn how to hunt if you're going to live off of mice, voles, squirrels, and any other animal you can fit in your mouth." I say, scratching him behind his ears.
He gave me a disgusted look and sank his teeth into his mouse. I sigh.
Instead of pouring myself a bowl of cereal, I decide to go for a walk. I had found an amazing walking trail in the forest. I put my headphones on and headed off towards the trail.
I have the music playing to one of my songs without the word so that I can practice. I turned around and started walking backwards.
It's a bad habit I guess, but it's fun. I start to sing, losing myself in the lyrics. In about an hour, I get back home and change into my favorite T-shirt and a pair of shorts. Then I take a puff of the inhaler, put my vest on, and walk to my motorized scooter to go to the concert.
I will be meeting Kaya and Slate there.
"Hello! where are you going?" someone says behind me. I turn around.
"Hello. I'm going to the concert. Will you be coming?" I say.
"That's today? Grandpa!" He ran off. I laugh and step on to my scooter and take off.
When I get there I see Kaya and Slate waiting for me. "Hi foxes!" I say cheerfully.
"Hi Kittypaw. You should have come into the front door so you could see the line!" Kaya said.
"It stretched so far!" Slate added.
I laugh. I wonder if there will be any cute guys. I could use the heat. "It's cold in here." I say.
"It's cold everywhere!" Kaya squeaks.
We start walking towards the stage. Kaya gives a little bounce. Slate sat down, looking nervous. I give them each a pat behind the ears. It's starting! This is so exciting!
"Hello everyone!" WOW hottie's in the front seat! "WeLcOmE!" I can't help myself, I wink. Kaya looks at me with this 'OoOoWoOoO' look.
"Let's get started!" We begin the concert
"Well, that was aMaZiNg! Man, who was that?" I say.
"Who was who?" Slate asks.
"The hot guy in the front row. Tall hair, brown eyes, smart enough to wear long sleeves, weird looking device in his lap…" I trailed off into daydream land.
"That hot guy is Ryder, the leader of the PAW Patrol, and he's taken." Someone said from behind me.
I turned around. "Yeah, whatever. Who are you?" I say sarcastically. She doesn't need to come in and crush my dreams like that.
"I'm his girlfriend. Don't wink at him again." She says.
"Hey, I'm not going to get told off by a blondie! I'm SoRrY!" I snap.
"Just ask him. And I don't care what you think about my hair. Stay away from him! He's MINE!" She stalked off.
"Watch me." I mutter under my breath. If they were boyfriend and girlfriend, they would have been sitting side by side sharing a smoothie, or something like that.
"Sheesh, she's wacko! They are no way dating! Not the right match at all!" Kaya voices my opinion.
"I'll show her who likes him more." I vow.
Slate signs. "It's not a competition…"
"I don't care!" I say. "I saw him, he's mine! Everyone else looks like they've been trained on bad looks!"
Kaya and slate burst out laughing. I yawn. It's been a big day. I pulled out my notebook and started writing a new song. This one's gonna be called savage love.*
Together, me and my foxes head for home.
I woke to a hiss coming from down the hall.
"Tiger? What's going on?" I ask, peering into the hallway.
"Intruder! I'll claw them to bits!" Tiger unsheathes his claws and lets out a battle cry.
"Wait!" I yell. "Who's there?"
"The mail man." A dog in all black growls.
"Ahh!" I scream.
