Don't Spill the Tea
The three of them - Yugi, Yami, and Seto - were gathered in Seto's office for what Yugi thought of as the weekly "make sure Yami hasn't driven Seto completely around the bend" meeting. Seto objected strenuously to said meetings but allowed them anyway, for whatever reasons of his own. Yugi had caught the other teen casting surreptitious glances at the stuffed penguin toy hiding near the keyboard on Seto's desk when Seto thought no one was looking, and so figured this was maybe Seto's way of acknowledging their friendship without doing something as out of character as actually ...acknowledging their friendship. It seemed a very Seto thing to do.
Right now, Seto was grudgingly making them all a cup of coffee. Rather more firmly than necessary, he set down mugs for Yugi and Yami on the low table in front of them and then stomped back to his precious coffee-maker to fix his own. Yugi glanced down at his cup and then did a double-take.
"Yami..." Scooting closer to his boyfriend on the sofa and whispering so he couldn't be overheard by Seto, Yugi asked, "Why is this coffee pink?"
His stomach fluttered at the look of smug, almost feline satisfaction that slid over Yami's features.
"It's karkade," Yami murmured, equally quiet. Eyes gleaming with private amusement, he continued to watch Seto fuss with his Coffee-nator. "The Blue-Eyes White Dragon begged a boon of me." He gestured gracefully to the coffee cups filled with hot pink liquid. "She worries about Seto and thinks this will be better for his health. Of course, I had to ensure he doesn't realize the switch, so..."
Placing an index finger to his lips like a librarian demanding silence (and giving Yugi Ideas for later), Yami winked.
In other words, Seto thought he was drinking coffee even though he was actually imbibing hibiscus tea - and it was all his overprotective dragon's fault.
Yugi leaned against Yami and shook with silent laughter until Seto rejoined them.
"What's wrong with Mutou?" Seto sneered, as he returned with his own mug of karkade and took a seat in the chair pulled over expressly for that purpose. "Is he having a seizure or can he just not handle good coffee?"
That set Yugi off again. Deftly, Yami snaked the cup from Yugi's shaking hand before he could spill tea everywhere.
"I'm fine!" Yugi snorted out a last bit of laughter before getting himself under control. Wiping tears from his eyes, he beamed at Seto. "So, Seto - Tell me how your week's been."
