This idea popped up recently. Will be mostly from Ashley Chandler's POV, as well as an OC. Please enjoy.
The Assignment
Chapter 1
Ashley loved her classes at private school in St. Louis. Her dad had rented an apartment for her and Sammy, and everything was perfect. Once every few weeks, Uncle Mike or Russ checked in with them; made sure bills were paid and the apartment was presentable. Mike was a little more strict, but he had stepped into being something of an adopted dad, especially when her own checked out. Currently, her dad and Sasha were sailing. The last time Ashley had heard from him, they were in Bora Bora. She could only hope they found peace. She made sure that Sammy got to his class and went to her own civics class. Like Sammy, she had began going by her mom's maiden name; Jerome to make things easier and even the teacher's thought that was her real name.
"Ah, lovely to have you join us, Miss Jerome." Her instructor; Mrs. Garrison said as she gave Ashley a form.
"Sorry, Ma'am; I was dropping my little brother off. What's this?" Ashley asked.
"You each have been assigned a charity project. To learn about, to advocate, to raise money for and to volunteer at. Become passionate about. You've been assigned to the homeless shelter for orphans on McAllister. You will report to Sister Anne. You will give a presentation on March 24th, explaining what you learned about and did there." Mrs. Garrison answered.
"What are the other projects?" Ashley asked out of curiosity.
"Volunteering at a VA home, a domestic violence shelter and for a parks department, but I choose this one for you. I thought you would do well with it. So, enjoy." Mrs. Garrison told her.
"Thank you, Ma'am." Ashley answered. She listened to the rest of the class, interacted and once it was dismissed, picked Sammy up. She was given a monthly allowance that was more than generous so she ordered pizza for dinner. It was like her dad gave her the allowance and paid all the other bills so he didn't have to deal with Ashley and Sam. Just before she went to bed, Mike texted that he would be in town the next day and would be checking in. She knew it meant a dinner out, while Mike asked about grades and classes. It really was a shame that his family had all died, because he had things figured out. He knew how to parent. He should teach her dad and Sasha a few things.
Short beginning chapter but it gives you an idea!
