The rain fell heavily against the tin roof of the Resistance's current base. The dimly lit room was surrounded by a colorful myriad of characters crowded around a table with a map on it. Sonic, the blue blur himself, was absent from the group, and it weighed heavily on both the atmosphere of the room and on the shoulders of the group. His little brother, the brains of the operation, was at the head of the table fiddling with the Miles Electric, with Knuckles and Amy looking over the map. Vector and Espio were talking quietly amongst themselves, planning out what they were going to do in terms of reconnaissance. But no one dared talk about the blue blur's absence, despite it all being on their minds.
A blue portal opened up, a quiet whirring noise overtaking the pattering of the rain on the rooftops, and a white hedgehog that everyone knew to be Silver popped out, and the entirety of the Resistance leaders knew right then and there that they were screwed if Silver was coming back. "Hey guys!" Silver happily chirped despite the worn out look on his face. "Finally managed to snag a Chaos Emerald to get back here and help!" The heavy silence that answered him made his ears flick back. "Where's Sonic? Am I too late?" Amy got up from her place at the table and walked gently over to Silver, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"I'm sorry Silver, but Sonic was taken by Infinite and Dr. Eggman six months ago today." Amy answered quietly. Silver took her hand and held it in both of his own, and smiled widely.
"No worries, Amy! We can get him back now! This is when Eggman is most vulnerable, because he's at the height of his hubris!" Silver chirped. "We just need to send someone in!"
The room fell silent, the rain seeming to fall even harder than before, and Amy smiled wearily. "We tried that so many times, Silver, but Sonic's...probably dead by now." The admittance of a fact that no one wanted to say made the room grow darker, and Silver's bright cheerfulness that was a candlelight in the darkness was suddenly snuffed out by such a dark idea. "We've accepted that, and right now, we're just trying to get back what we can. Save who we can."
Silver was quiet for a minute, and his demeanor had changed to a serious look, his mind spinning with too many thoughts to count. The Resistance had already given up on Sonic, but not on the hope that they can take things back. "Just tell me where to start," Silver offered a small smile to Amy, and the pink hedgehog, despite herself, finally smiled back.
"Thank you. Let's get to work everyone!"
