Emily went back to JJ's after going to the bar with her and Garcia. It beat staying in a hotel for another night until she had to fly back to London or found somewhere more permanent to live over in the US and JJ needed the company. She hated nights alone in her house when the kids were with Will. It felt quiet, empty. She longed for company and every little noise would send panic signals to her brain. She'd seen enough at work and been through enough because of work and found when she was alone, after not being alone for so long the fear of something happening to her came back. Not that she would admit that to her team, although they had all noticed JJ's increased caffeine consumption to try and make up for the sleepless nights caused by loneliness and fear.
They sat on the sofa drinking water, trying to minimise the hangover in the morning. "What happened with Will?" Prentiss asked. She knew JJ needed to talk about it and struggled being in her house without the kids.
"I don't know. The Job. He doesn't like that I'm into women." JJ replied, pausing. "We tried to stay together for the kids and went to couples therapy but it didn't work. We were constantly arguing. I never wanted to come home knowing he'd be there." She finished and started to tear up. "I miss him. What it was like when we were good."
Prentiss hugged the younger blonde. "I know." She replied comfortingly. "How are the kids taking it?" She knew the divorce had only recently been finalised, along with plans for childcare.
"Henry seems to be adjusting as well as can be expected and Micheal isn't sleeping and needs constant cuddles," JJ replied sadly. She wasn't sure what she hated about the divorce more. The fact that she was now single and had lost someone she at least used to love or the impact it would have on her children. "They don't deserve this."
"JJ you and Will did everything you could to make it work. Don't blame yourself for this." Prentiss told her rationally. She knew they wouldn't have split up on a whim and it was a collection of events that lead to the eventual break down of their marriage.
"I know," JJ replied, sipping at her water.
"Good," Emily said. "When are the kids staying with you next? I want to see them."
"They're coming back tomorrow," JJ replied pausing. "If a serial killer ruins that I will not be happy." She was meant to have the kids back last Monday but then they got called away on a case so they'd stayed at Wills all week. JJ really missed them and didn't want to have to go even longer without them. "Henry will be so happy to see you and Micheals grown so much since you last saw him!" She suddenly exclaimed excitedly.
"I can't wait!" Emily replied. "Hopefully a killer won't get in the way."
The pair went to bed soon after. Emily sleeping in the spare room. She'd go back to her hotel after seeing the kids but JJ was right. It was nice to not be in a hotel for one night.
JJ made Emily French toast the next morning. She was a morning person and despite their late-night was up early on a Saturday. Although she'd always been somewhat of a morning person the kids had definitely made her more of one. Children seemed to have a way of waking up at 7 am on a weekend and throughout the holidays even if they didn't need to.
Emily stumbled out of bed and quickly looked in the mirror to make sure she didn't look like a complete mess in front of her friend. She could smell the French toast cooking and smiled. JJ was such a good host. Emily loved French Toast. "You made me breakfast?!" Emily said shocked, coming into the kitchen.
"Yeah. I remembered French toast was your favourite and I was awake." JJ replied as Emily poured herself and JJ some coffee.
"Thankyou." JJ didn't need to go to the effort of making breakfast for her friend and it meant a lot that she did.
They sat down together at the table, talking to each other and enjoying each others company. It was nice to both be in the same country again. Even if it wouldn't be forever. Emily had a shower and got dressed after breakfast, helping JJ do some cleaning whilst they waited for the kids to arrive.
When Will dropped off the kids JJ lit up. She loved seeing them after a week of having not seen them. "I missed you two boys!" She exclaimed. Holding Micheal tightly and Henry hugging her.
"We missed you too." Henry replied. Glad to be with his mom. Not that he didn't like being with his dad. He just wanted both of them back together again so he didn't have to miss one whilst spending time with the other.
"Henry, guess who flew over from England." JJ said.
"Auntie Emmy!" He exclaimed excitedly. "Is she here?"
"Yeah. She's in the living room. She wanted to see you guys."
"Auntie Emmy come look at my comic books!" Henry exclaimed, taking her into his room and enthusiastically showing her his Marvel comics.
Emily looked at Henrys Marvel comics with him for a while before going to see Michael. "He's adorable," Emily said, watching him try and walk.
"Yeah, he is." JJ replied, smiling. She felt a lot better now she had the kids back in the house with her.
Emily left JJ's later that afternoon. She was glad to be back with her team, even if it wasn't forever. She hadn't realised how much she missed working with them and spending time with them outside of work.
