Disclaimer: I don't own Vampire Diaries. I only own Mira and all her supernaturalness. Because of my character, I want you guys to ignore season 6-8 of Vampire Diaries. This story will follow canon for a little while but will eventually change as it progresses. Hope you all like this! ;)

"Pilot" 1x01

Mira rolls over and falls right out of bed. Slamming onto the floor, she groans. Feeling too tired to get up, she curls up on the rug and attempts to fall back asleep. Mira hears shuffling from above her and can only guess that Elena is waking up.

"Mira, are you ok?" Elena questions with amusement in her voice. Mira rolls onto her back and looks up at Elena who is still on the bed. "Depends, do I still have to go to school today?"

Elena rolls her eyes. "Yes, you still have to go."

"Then no, I'm definitely not ok."

Sighing, Elena grabs her diary and begins her daily entry. Mira groans, but slowly picks herself off the floor. After popping her back and stretching a little, Mira moves toward the bathroom to get dressed for the day.

Re-entering Elena's room a few minutes later, Mira is wearing dark blue skinny jeans and a blue top, and currently towel-drying her long damp hair. Elena, having finished her journal entry, is moving around her room getting ready for school. While Elena trudges to the bathroom, Mira applies a small amount of mascara. Looking into the mirror, Mira sees her mother's strange eyes. The right eye is chocolate brown, while the left eye is ocean blue. Mira thinks of her beautifully odd mother and how similar they would have been if she were still alive. Shaking her head, Mira focuses on her task once again.

Once the girls are ready, they head downstairs to the kitchen. Mira races to the freshly brewed coffee and effectively cuts Jeremy off. Jeremy glares at her, but she just smiles innocently at him. After obtaining her much-needed coffee, Mira watches Jenna flail around with amusement.

"It's your first day of school and I'm completely unprepared. Do you guys have everything? Number 2 pencil? What am I missing?"

Grabbing her cup of coffee, Elena responds, "It's all about the coffee, Aunt Jenna."

Mira raises her cup. "Agreed."

"Don't you have a big presentation today?"

"I meet with my advisor…" Jenna checks her watch, "…now. Crap!"

Elena waves her on. "Go Jenna. We'll be fine."

Jenna sighs. "Ok but be careful and have a good day. Mira watch them."

Mira nods and flashes a smile. "Will do, Jenna."

Jenna rushes out the door. Elena turns to Jeremy.

"You ok?"

"Don't start."

Jeremy pushes past her and out the door. Mira looks at Elena's downcast eyes and feels the need to reassure her.

"He'll be fine Elena. We will just keep an extra close eye on him."

"Yeah, you're right. I'm just worried about him."

Placing a hand on her shoulder, Mira responds. "I know."

Hearing a car horn, Elena grabs her jacket and Mira slips on her messenger bag. They both head out the door to Bonnie's car.

Mira stretches out her feet across the backseat as she listens to Bonnie. "So, Grams is telling me I'm psychic. Our ancestors were from Salem, which isn't all that, I know, crazy, but she's going on and on about it. I'm like put this woman in a home already! But then I started thinking, I predicted Obama and I predicted Heath Ledger, and I still think Florida will break off and turn into little resort islands."

Mira nods her head thoughtfully. "Maybe you are a witch."

"No way Mira! That's ridiculous. Right, Elena?" Bonnie turns to see Elena staring sadly out the window. "Elena! Back in the car."

Elena shakes her head, ridding herself of distracting thoughts.

"I did it again, didn't I? I—I'm sorry, Bonnie. You were telling me that..."

"That I'm psychic now."

"And possibly a witch." Mira adds with a grin.

Bonnie rolls her eyes. Elena nods with an unsure quirk of her brow.

"Right. Ok, then predict something about me."

Bonnie moves to say something when a black blur bounces off Bonnie's windshield. They all gasp as Bonnie slams on her breaks. As the car skids to a stop, Bonnie and Mira look over at Elena concerned.

"What was that!? Oh, my god! Elena, are you ok?"

Elena takes a couple of deep breaths, while Mira rubs her shoulder in comfort. "It's ok. I'm fine."

"It was like a bird or something. It came out of nowhere."

"Really, I can't be freaked out by cars for the rest of my life."

Bonnie smiles at Elena in confidence.

"I predict this year is going to be kick ass. And I predict all the sad and dark times are over and you are going to be beyond happy."

Elena nods and smiles happily at Bonnie's prediction, silently hoping for it to be true. Mira gives Bonnie a smile as well.

"So does that prediction apply to all of us or just Elena? Because I would be ok with that being my future too."

They laugh at Mira's silliness and continue to school.

Mira walks through the crowded hallway along with Bonnie and Elena. As they're walking, Bonnie is commenting on her fellow students.

"Major lack of male real estate."

Mira nods her head in agreement. "I know right. Maybe a handsome new guy will appear this semester."

Elena chuckles, while Bonnie scoffs.

"Mira, come on. Who would want to move to Mystic Falls? Willingly?"

"Hey, you're the psychic one, not me."

Mira smiles teasingly at Bonnie. Elena watches her two best friends fondly. Bonnie points a girl's weird outfit out.

"Look at the shower curtain on Kelly Beach. She looks a hot—can I still say tranny mess?"

Elena shakes her head. "No, that's over."

Mira shrugs. "I'm pretty sure you can still say hot mess if you want."

Bonnie sighs in fake exhaustion. "Ahh, find a man, coin a phrase. It's a busy year."

Bonnie looks at Matt which causes Elena to look over at him. Mira focuses on grabbing her books from her locker. Elena waves at Matt, which he completely disregards and walks away. Mira rolls her eyes at Matt and his drama queen act. She liked Matt, but honestly, she didn't ship him with Elena. They just weren't right for one another.

"He hates me."

That's not hate. That's you dumped me but I'm too cool to show it, but secretly I'm listening to air supply's greatest hits."

Mira laughs at Bonnie and how probable her guess is. "Bonnie, you are way too accurate. I knew you were psychic."

Elena tries and fails to hide her amused smile. Bonnie is about to respond when Caroline makes her appearance.

"Elena. Oh, my god." Caroline wraps her arms around Elena in a tight hug. "How are you? Oh, it's so good to see you."

Caroline turns to Bonnie and Mira.

"How is she? Is she good?"

Mira grins in amusement at Caroline and her blatant disregard to Elena's response.

"Caroline, I'm right here. And I'm fine. Thank you."

"Really?" Caroline gives Elena a soft, but disbelieving look.

"Yes. Much better."

Caroline, clearly unsatisfied, gives Elena one more tight hug and then pulls away.

"Ok, see you guys later? Ok! Bye."

Caroline turns to leave but then remembers and adds, "Mira don't forget to meet up with me later."

Mira nods her head, "Ok, I'll see you later then."

Nodding in satisfaction, Caroline whirls around and disappears into the crowded hallway. Elena turns to Bonnie with a baffled look.

Bonnie shakes her head. "I'm not going to say anything."

Mira just chuckles. "Only Caroline."

They continue to walk through the hallways. Then something catches Bonnie's attention. They stop and investigate the administration office. Mira has a good view of a leather-clad muscular back.

"Hold up. Who's this?"

"All I see is back."

Bonnie nods in appreciation. "It's a hot back."

Mira can't help but have this feeling in the pit of her stomach, like her body is trying to tell her something. She shakes it off and guesses it's just something she ate.

Mira asks, "Are we calling dibs before or after we see the front?"

Bonnie nods contemplatively. "Definitely after we see the front."

Elena and Mira begin chuckling at Bonnie and her semi-serious answer.

"I'm sensing Seattle, and he plays the guitar."

Mira nods in thought while Elena scoffs. "You're really going to run this whole psychic thing into the ground, huh?"

"Pretty much."

Elena is about to respond when she spots Jeremy stumble into the bathroom.

"I'll be right back." And Elena is now on a mission. Mira hopes Jeremy's not too stoned, for his sake. Hearing Bonnie chant "please be hot.", Mira joins in and they both continue to watch the hopefully hot new guy. Then Mira realizes something.

"Hey, I just realized something. I predicted correctly when I said that a new guy might come this semester. You, Bonnie Bennett, owe me an order of cheesy fries."

Bonnie groans at her cheese addiction, but nods in agreement. Mira pumps her fist in success. Finally, the new guy moves. Bonnie's and Mira's eyes widen and they both look at Stefan with satisfaction. He walks past them and moves toward the men's restroom. Right when he moves to open the door, Elena runs right into him. Mira laughs at Elena's shocked face. She can't help but think that they would look good together. Mira watches as Elena moves to go around Stefan when he moves in her way. This happens a couple of times before Stefan gestures for Elena to pass him. Mira nudges Bonnie. "I think dibs isn't an option anymore. They look too cute together."

Bonnie sighs in mock sadness. "I think your right. I guess we'll just go back to the drawing board."

Mira nods in agreement with an amused smile on her face.

"In the meantime, we need to make this…" Mira points to where Elena and Stefan were standing together. "...happen. I think it's fate!"

Bonnie laughs at Mira's determined expression, but nods in agreement.

Mira attempts to stay awake while Mr. Tanner drones on and on about historical facts. Blinking sleepily, Mira watches Elena and Stefan go back and forth giving each other longing looks. Mira receives a text from Bonnie.

I don't think they need our help as much as we thought. —Bonnie

Agreed. Let's just enjoy the show for now. —Mira

Silently giggling at her conversation with Bonnie, Mira returns her attention to Elena and Stefan's game of ping-pong.

After school, Elena and Mira walk along the sidewalk in the direction of the cemetery. They stop at the front gates and Mira looks at Elena in suspicion. "Are you sure you don't want me to stay with you? Because I can definitely do that if you need me as moral support or anything really."

Elena smiles at her friend's caring, protective nature, but assures her. "I'm ok, Mira. I'm just gonna write for a little bit, then I'll go home. We're still on for the Grill tonight, right?

Mira nods. "Yep. Caroline will not stop sending me texts about it. I forget about a date one time, and she'll never let me forget it."

"That's Caroline. Ok, I'll see you tonight. Say hi to your dad for me."

Mira grins at her and waves goodbye. Mira turns and begins the trek to her house.

Opening her front door, Mira strolls into her house and looks around for her dad. Wilson Borne was an ER doctor that worked long shifts at Mystic Falls General. Mira barely sees her dad because of his chaotic schedule, but she always enjoys her time with him when he's home. He's the only parent Mira's ever known, so she loves him with all her heart. Walking into the living room, she spots her dad sprawled out onto the couch fast asleep, still in his blue scrubs. Mira could hear his loud snores from the doorway. Smiling fondly, she walks over and turns off the tv he had left on. Grabbing a soft throw blanket from the recliner's arm, Mira gently covers her father up and leaves him to sleep. Tiptoeing up the stairs, she enters her room. Feeling bored, she grabs the book she's been reading, which happens to be "Pride and Prejudice", and snuggles onto her cozy window seat. Sighing in contentment, Mira opens the book and returns to the Regency Era.

Looking at her appearance in the mirror, Mira nods approvingly at the dark blue skinny jeans, a blue plaid shirt with a white tank underneath, and her black ankle boots. She runs a hand through her long, wavy brown locks. Mira turns to Elena, who comes out of her bathroom, and nods readily. Mira follows Elena downstairs in the direction of the door. Jenna walks past us.

"We're meeting Bonnie and Caroline at the Grill."

"Ok, have fun." Jenna continues to walk, then remembers her parental status and adds, "Wait, I got this. Don't stay out late, it's a school night."

Mira and Elena chuckle.

"Well done, Aunt Jenna."

"Bravo, Jenna."

Jenna grins and turns toward the kitchen. Elena opens the door, and gasps in surprise as Stefan stands on the other side of the doorway. Mira, not paying attention, bumps into Elena's back which pushes Elena into Stefan's arms. Finding her balance, Mira re-centers herself while muttering frantic sorries, but stops when she discovers the situation she triggered. Elena was still in Stefan's arms and they were both just staring into each other's eyes, in a world of their own. Mira smiles at them and their dreamy expressions, but accidentally lets out a happy giggle. Elena and Stefan return to reality and they both take a step back. Elena smiles, embarrassed, while Stefan tries to look apologetic but actually looks satisfied. Mira decides to break the awkward silence.

"Hey Stefan." Mira greets with a friendly smile and a wave of sorts.

Stefan gives her an appreciative smile and replies, "Hey Mira."

Then turning his attention to Elena, he explains himself. "Sorry, I was about to knock. I wanted to apologize for my disappearing act earlier. I know it was…strange."

Elena shakes her head and reassures him. "No worries. I get it, blood makes you squeamish."

"Um, something like that."

Mira, who's standing slightly behind Elena, pipes up. "It's cool Stefan, blood makes me feel sick too."

Giving a thumbs up at him, Mira smiles good-naturedly. Stefan grins at Mira and her friendliness, then seems to remember something. "How's your leg?"

"Oh, it's fine. Just a scratch, barely. How did you know where I lived?"

Stefan and Mira answer in unison, "It's a small town."

They stop and give each other confused, but amused looks. Elena laughs at them, but nods in understanding. "Right sorry, I forget that little detail sometimes."

Stefan continues, "I figured you might want this back."

He reaches into his back pocket and pulls out Elena's diary. He hands it to her. "I promise that I didn't read it."

"No?" She chuckles. "Why not? Most people would have."

"Well, I wouldn't want anyone to read mine."

Elena looks floored. Mira quietly snickers at her face.

"You keep a journal?"

"Yeah, if I don't write it down, I forget it. Memories are too important."

"Yeah." Elena agrees, a little breathless.

Mira raises an eyebrow at Elena and her obvious attraction to Stefan. She is so excited to give Bonnie the Stelena update. Elena realizes she's still holding her diary and turns to put it in the house. "Um, you don't have to stay out there."

Stefan takes a step towards the door but looks like he can't get through. Mira gives him a curious look, but just blames her imagination.

"I'm fine."

Stefan stands awkwardly in front of the door. Mira decides to strike up a conversation. "So, how's your first day been? I hope it wasn't too chaotic."

Mira gives him a genuine smile, which surprises Stefan. He didn't expect someone to actually care how he's been "settling".

"It's been a good day, I think. Nothing too difficult to handle."

"That's great! I'm glad you're settling in ok. Although if you're having any trouble, feel free to let me know. I know all the ins and outs of this small town." Mira again startles Stefan with how friendly and kind she's being.

"Thanks, Mira. I'll hold you to that."

Elena returns and gives Mira and Stefan a questioning stare. Stefan realizes that Elena and Mira are both dressed up.

"Sorry, were you going somewhere?"

Elena nods. "Yeah, we're meeting some friends. Do you want to come?"

Mira smiles at the amount of Stelena progress, and how nice of a guy Stefan is. He will be good for Elena. Although she can't get rid of this feeling in the pit of her stomach, as if her senses are trying to warn her about something.

Mira walks into the Grill with Elena and Stefan behind her. She smiles a little thinking about the lovebirds, but then realizes all eyes are on her and the almost-couple behind her. Feeling a little awkward with all these eyes on her, she walks over to Bonnie while Matt introduces himself to Stefan. Mira smirks when she's close enough to Bonnie and updates her on their project. Bonnie giggles at Mira and her enthusiasm towards Elena's new love interest. They talk for a bit more until Caroline swoops in to get the latest update on Stefan. Mira feels kinda bad for Caroline because she can obviously tell how much her friend wants Stefan, so she decides to be honest with Caroline.

"Care, you know I love you, right?" Mira begins nervously.

Caroline nods with an unsure frown. "Yeah, we've been friends for forever now."

Mira smiles kindly. "Caroline, I always want to be honest with you, so I'm gonna be honest now. I think Stefan likes Elena."

Caroline gives a disbelieving look with her eyebrows slightly raised. "What? What do you mean you think?"

"All I know is that Stefan has shown an interest in Elena today. I just don't want to see one of my closest friends hurt over some guy. But I promise I'll support you in whatever you decide."

Mira grins sheepishly at her, hoping that she understands. Caroline gives an irritated huff and looks a little frustrated, but Mira can't decide if it's towards her or Elena.

"Look, Mira, I appreciate your concern, but I don't have a doubt that Stefan will soon realize who he really wants to be with." And with that Caroline saunters away towards Elena, Stefan, and Matt. Mira sighs tiredly and runs a hand through her wavy hair. That was not how she planned that conversation to go, but at least she tried. She looks at Bonnie with a "what can you do" face and shrugs in defeat. Bonnie just rolls her eyes at Caroline's behavior.

"Don't let her get you down, you tried to help her. It's her own fault if she doesn't take the warning."

"I know. I just feel bad because I know that she doesn't have a chance. I know how she feels, lonely and in want of someone who she can truly be herself with."

Bonnie gives her an understanding smile and wraps an arm around her shoulder.

"Don't worry, Mira. We'll find someone for you. Just you wait."

Mira giggles along with Bonnie, feeling much better. Suddenly she hears her name being called. Elena is beckoning them over to a table.

As they all take a seat, Mira reminds Bonnie what she owes her. Bonnie groans in fake agony but orders a plate of cheesy fries anyway. Stefan raises an eyebrow in confusion until Elena explains.

"Mira has been obsessed with cheesy fries since we were kids. So, we made a game out of it. Whenever Mira wins a bet or argument, then that person owes her an order of cheesy fries." Stefan nods in understanding but his eyes hold fond amusement for the girl with the mismatched eyes. Everyone laughs at Mira's animated gestures as her order arrives. Mira moans as the warm cheese-covered fries touch her tongue. While Mira is enjoying her delicious food, Caroline and Bonnie begin interrogating Stefan.

"So, were you born in Mystic Falls?"

"Mm-hmm. And moved when I was still young."

"Parents?"

"My parents passed away."

Elena replies in sad understanding. "I'm sorry."

Stefan and Elena stare into each other's eyes for a second but break away when asked the next question.

"Any siblings?"

"None that I talk to."

Mira looks up at Stefan with that statement. She noticed he was purposely vague and distant with that answer, which means he either didn't get along with said sibling or they just didn't live close by. She was guessing the former. Stefan continues.

"I live with my uncle."

"So, Stefan, if you're new, then you don't know about the party tomorrow."

Bonnie explains. "It's a back-to-school thing at the Falls."

Mira smirks. "It's really just an excuse for the local kids to drink and hookup, nothing too glamorous."

Stefan nods in understanding and amusement, then turns his attention to Elena. "Are you going?"

Before Elena can answer, Bonnie quickly replies for her. "Of course, she is."

Mira snorts and covers her mouth with her hand, trying to hold in her laughter. Elena gives an embarrassed, but happy smile as she nods at Stefan. Mira takes that as a win and secretly high-fives Bonnie under the table.

Mira silently groans in boredom as Mr. Tanner blabbers on and on about the Battle of Willow Creek. The only interesting thing in this class right now is Stefan and Elena playing seven minutes in heaven with their eyes. Mira does think it's adorable though. Unfortunately, Tanner decides to ruin the fun.

"How many casualties resulted in this battle? Miss Bennett?"

"Um… a lot? I'm not sure. Like a whole lot."

"Cute becomes dumb in an instant, Miss Bennett."

Turning his attention to Matt, Tanner continues.

"Mr. Donovan, would you like to take this opportunity to overcome your embedded jock stereotype."

"It's ok, Mr. Tanner, I'm cool with it."

Mira tries her best to bottle up her laughter.

"Elena? Surely you can enlighten us about one of the town's most significantly historical events?"

Shaking her head, Elena responds. "I'm sorry, I don't know."

Mr Tanner shakes his head in disapproval. "I was willing to be lenient last year for obvious reasons, Elena, but the personal excuses ended with summer break."

Mira is clenching her hands so tight that she could feel her nails biting into her skin. She couldn't believe Tanner would go that low! Mira is so angry that she begins to feel cold. Then she realizes that frost has begun to appear on her arms. Flinching in her seat, she quickly and subtly brushes it away. Her heart is beating fast, and she can't decide if she just imagined the frost or not. Shaking her head, she hears a calm voice speak up.

"There were 346 casualties, unless you're counting local civilians."

Mira could've kissed Stefan, but she figured that was Elena's job.

"That's correct. Mr…"

"Salvatore."

"Any relation to the original settlers here at Mystic Falls?"

"Distant."

"Well, very good. Except, of course, there were no civilian casualties in this battle."

"Actually, there were 27, sir. Confederate soldiers, they fired on the church, believing it to be housing weapons. They were wrong. It was a night of great loss." Stefan pauses to smirk a little, then continues. "The founder's archives are stored in civil hall if you'd like to brush up on your facts, Mr. Tanner."

Everyone begins to chuckle at Tanner finally getting what he deserves. Mira chuckles as well, but still checks her arms every few seconds for frost. Her heart is pounding in her chest.

After school, Mira meets up with Caroline, who wants to get ready for the party together. Caroline drives them to her house since Mira's dad is pulling a double shift at the hospital and doesn't want her to stay home alone. As Caroline looks through her closet, Mira sits at the vanity curling her chocolate hair into loose spirals. Caroline whines in impatience when none of her clothes "speak" to her.

"Ugh, Mira, I can't find anything that will work." Falling dramatically on her bed, she covers her face with her arm. "I officially give up."

Mira rolls her eyes and giggles at Caroline's defeat. Deciding that her hair is done, she walks over to the unsatisfying closet.

"Ok ok, I'll help you. I'm sure we can find something for you to wear."

Caroline pops off her bed and stands beside Mira, looking at the closet in contemplation. Finally, Mira spots a red blouse that would go perfectly with the blue skinny jeans Caroline has. Grabbing both articles of clothing, she shoves them at Caroline. "Here. These should be acceptable." Thinking that something's missing, Mira grabs a black sweater from the closet. "This should finish your glamorous look."

Caroline smiles brightly at her outfit. "Thanks Mira. You're the best friend a girl could ask for."

Mira grins bashfully. "No biggie, Care. Now let's get changed."

Mira looks in the mirror one last time. She looks over her chosen outfit: a white crop top, a blue plaid shirt over the crop top, dark blue skinny jeans, and brown hiking boots. Thinking her mismatched eyes need something, Mira adds a little mascara to her look.

"Mira! Come on, we gotta go!"

Mira jumps at her friend's shout and mumbles to herself. "I guess that's my cue."

Grabbing her bag, she jogs downstairs and follows her friend out the door.

With the smell of beer and sweat in the air, Mira already regrets her decision on coming to this party. After Caroline ran off to talk to her fellow gossips, Mira grabbed a drink, that was nothing more than a prop, and began walking around trying to find someone she knew. So far, she hasn't been able to find anyone worth talking to. She spotted Tyler making moves on a girl beside a campfire, and she found Jeremy wandering around too drunk to hold a conversation. Mira rolls her eyes at her peers and walks on, but accidentally bumps into something hard. She loses her balance and begins to fall, but a hand wraps around her wrist and steadies her. Mismatched eyes meet concerned, forest green. Mira grins. "Hey, Stefan. Sorry for bumping into you. I wasn't really paying attention."

Stefan nods in understanding. "No problem. You're ok, right?"

"Oh yeah, I'm good. You prevented any damage." Mira runs her hand through her hair. "So, have you spotted Elena yet? I can't seem to find her."

Stefan minutely shakes his head. "No, not yet. But I'm sure we'll find her soon."

Mira agrees with a nod. So, Mira and Stefan walk through the crowd until they finally spot Elena talking to Bonnie. As they move closer, Mira notices Bonnie walk away with a spooked expression.

"Hey Stefan, you go on ahead. I'm gonna go check on Bonnie."

Stefan hums in understanding and continues towards Elena. Mira jogs after Bonnie and finds her near a keg, getting a refill.

Touching her shoulder, Mira asks, "Bonnie, you alright?"

Bonnie jolts at her touch but calms down when she sees Mira. Bonnie shrugs at the question. "Yeah, I'm fine. I think I just have had too much to drink tonight."

Mira quirks an eyebrow in confusion. "Why do you think that?"

Sighing, Bonnie answers, "Because I had this really weird feeling when I touched Elena. It was almost like a vision."

Mira doesn't really know what to say. Maybe Bonnie was drunk? But what about the weird feeling she's been having all day? This is just getting stranger and stranger.

"Bonnie, I'm not really sure what this means. But whatever it is, I promise to help you to the best of my ability. Ok?"

Bonnie relaxes at her friend's words and wraps her arms around Mira. Feeling calmer, Bonnie let's go and smiles at her. "Thanks Mira."

Mira shrugs. "No problem. I'll always be here for my besties."

They both laugh and lean on each other as they watch their fellow classmates meander around in a drunken stupor. That's when the shouting begins. Jumping up, Mira sees Elena running through the woods with Jeremy, who has an injured Vicki in his arms, right behind her. Mira's brown and blue eyes widen as she sprints over to the scene. But as she gets closer, an overwhelming scent hits her. Stopping in her tracks, Mira flinches in pain as the smell surrounds her and whispers to her… to take a drink. Her head is pounding, and her veins feel ice-cold. Holding her hand to her aching head, she watches as a small drop of blood slithers down Vicki's throat and onto the wet ground. Feeling hungry and nauseous at the same time, Mira turns and sprints to the parking lot. She leans against a car and gulps down fresh air, trying to shake that awful feeling away. Once her body calms down and she stops trembling, Mira goes to Caroline and Bonnie, hoping they'll give her a ride home. Bonnie agrees to take her home, but they have to stop at the Grill to sober Caroline up.

After a coffee each, Bonnie asks, "Are you sober yet?"

Caroline sits up for a moment, then wilts. "No."

Bonnie nudges the coffee closer. "Keep drinking. I gotta get you home. I gotta get me home."

Mira continues to sip at her creamy coffee and puts her feet up in another unused seat, deciding to listen instead of talk.

Caroline groans and runs her hands through her hair. "Why didn't he go for me? You know, how come the guys that I want never want me?"

Bonnie shakes her head. "I'm not touching that."

Mira rolls her eyes at Bonnie's unhelpful comment but pays attention to Caroline's sad rant.

"I'm inappropriate. I always say the wrong thing. And…Elena always says the right thing. She doesn't even try, and he just picks her. And she's always the one that everyone picks. For everything. And I try so hard. And…I'm never the one."

Mira can't take it anymore, so she intervenes. "Caroline, hold on a second. Why are you comparing yourself to Elena? You two are completely different and have your own separate, special things that make you amazing. Caroline, you are the most creative, passionate person I know. You are driven and strong and confident. You can plan a whole dance covering every detail and still help me pick out a dress. You're Caroline Forbes. And if some guy can't see all the amazing things about you, then he's not even worth your time."

Mira nods in satisfaction at her statement but is caught off guard by Caroline grabbing her hand and squeezing it as she sniffles a little.

"Mira, do you really think that? About me?"

Mira scoffs. "Of course. I wouldn't have said it otherwise. So, no more comparing yourself to anyone, ok?"

Caroline nods and smiles brightly at her best friend. Bonnie sits there looking at Mira with an impressed smile. As they get up to leave, Mira notices a stranger sitting at a table across from theirs. The dark-headed stranger smirks at her, but Mira just rolls her eyes at his obvious attempt at flirting and exits with her friends. Changing her sleepover plans, Mira asks Bonnie to drop her off at her own house. She figured Caroline wasn't really awake enough for company.

Mira walks through her front door and finds an empty house. Mira shivers at the dark living room that reminds her too much of the events that have happened tonight, so she hurries to turn on all the lights. Not liking the silence of the hollow house, Mira turns on the tv as she plops onto the comfy couch. As she aimlessly flips through channels, she thinks about the frost on her arms, the drop of blood that was too hard to resist, and the pounding of her head whispering drink. Blinking rapidly, Mira shakes herself from that awful train of thought. Acknowledging that she's not going to sleep anytime soon, she switches to Netflix and picks her favorite show to watch when she's had a stressful day. After only a few seconds, the theme song for The Office begins to play. Mira snuggles up with a blanket and stares at the tv the entire night, thinking of ice, blood, and monsters until morning, when her dad finally comes home.
