Oscar grew up on a farm, his body conditioned to wake up before the sun. It was normal for him to step outside when the landscape just started to transition to the next morning. He never thought he would have a grumpy old man to tell me to go back asleep, and said grump was in his head.

Ozpin, It's too early to be insulted.

Oscar, Just go back to sleep.

The young man could feel how the old wizard wrapped himself up in his skull, to shut himself out from seeing the world. Oscar had a small breakfast and some coffee and went outside.

He spun his cane, Long Memory, and moved through the drills that Qrow or Ozpin had shown him. He'd come a long way, but if he had to fight the things Ozpin had nightmares about, he'd had a lot more work to do.

He heard whistling, of all the weeks they've been had Haven, Oscar had not witnessed another soul this early in the morning.

The boy looked down the street, first he saw a girl. Bright orange hair, a cute suit, and emerald eyes. She was spinning a parasol, which seemed odd for the weather. Behind her a man with similar hair and eyes, a graceful swagger to his step. He looked like a gentleman and the cane suited him.

Wait, a cane.

Before the boy knew it he jogged up to them. The man was rolling a gold coin over his knuckles.

He gave Oscar a curious look, "Good morning."

Oscar keenly aware that he looked insultingly casual in comparison to the sharp white suit and an elegant bowler hat. The boy stood straight, both palms rested calmly on top of the Long Memory. "Good Morning sir. I was wondering if I could ask for your help. I'm pretty new to fighting with a cane and you seem confident."

The gentlemen's eye's roved over Oscar's weapon. "It looks like a classic."

Oscar grimaced, "It belongs to a late friend." the boy looked away, because he wasn't sure if he was lying. He almost shook Ozpin awake to ask if they were friends. Ozpin didn't take kindly to being woken up during the boy's early morning curiosities...those could wait the old wizard would say.

"What's in it for me?"

Oscar looked him over, of course this man was busy, probably had important things to do. How foolish of Oscar to think a businessman would volunteer his time for a poor farm boy.

The girl silently skipped to him and pinched Oscar's cheek. She gave a look to the older man that Oscar could not quite see.

The gentleman sighed and pulled out his pocket watch. "15 minutes, and only because my daughter thinks you're cute."

The girl flounced away

Oscar stammered, "Thank you." Oscar might be a farm hand but he knew not to call a girl stunning in front of her armed father.

The gentlemen held out his palm, "May I?" when Oscar handed it to him he gently tossed his own hooked cane to the boy. Oscar was in awe as the man's long slender fingers dipped and slipped around the hilt, spinning the blunt object in a variety of directions, the air whistling with speed. When satisfied he tossed Long Memory back and took his hooked cane.

"Hit me."

Oscar swung and the Gentleman twisted out of the way. The boy moved how he thought Ozpin would. He felt a little pleased that the Gentleman had to deflect most attacks. The few strikes he made Oscar was able to block.

"Widen your grip, spread your fingers out." After the next strike Long memory flew from his grasp.

The man dramatically sighed and demonstrated rolling his cane over the back of his hand before regripping it. "If you are flexible with your handling you can turn the force of your enemy strikes against them." He looked at his pocket watch. "I best be going. You got potential, kid."

The gentlemen strolled off with his daughter beside him.

Oscar overheard the man.

"I know dear, after I survived that Grimm I swore I'd volunteer more."

Ruby and Oscar training with their weapons.

Ruby, "You know Oscar there is a certain Torchwickiness about your style lately."

Oscar "huh who?"

Ozpin, I need to stop sleeping in.
