July 2nd, 1984
"Mom, have you seen my keys?" asked Asteria Trevor Prince. The daughter of Diana Prince and Steve Trevor.
Diana sighed from her own bedroom as she got dressed, "I don't know. Did you look in your purse?" she called out, smiling at her daughter's forgetfulness.
After the war ended in 1918, Diana found out she was pregnant with Steve Trevor's child. She was overjoyed and sad at the same time. Because Steve wasn't there to see his daughter. She would always tell Asteria bedtime stories about her father when she was a child and when she didn't have any more stories, she tells her daughter stories about the Gods, how men enslaved their people long ago, and her heritage on where she came from.
Asteria stopped aging at the age of twenty-three the same age her mother was when she left the Island. Years went by and at being 60 years old, she still remains the same, she looks more like her father than her mother. With Steve's blonde hair, blue eyes. But she had her mothers features as well as abilities. She teaches her daughter about her gifts and legends she herself grew up on. Now, she works at the smithsonian with her mother. Learning all about the history of her hidden past.
"Asteria, you ready?" Diana called out slipping on her leopard pattern heels before standing up from her bed and walking out of her room towards the living room where her daughter was already dressed but still looking for something. "Yeah, just need to find my keys." she replied as she looked in the cushions, she was wearing an outfit similar to her mothers but hers was red and had bright red heels like her mother, along with her hair up in a high and tight pony-tail. Diana sighed as she looked around before spotting the keys with a smile.
"Uh, are you sure you looked all over the place?" she asked her daughter as the younger woman huffed out a breath, "Of Course I did." she replied as she was still looking.
Diana took the keys dangling them and cleared her throat, gaining the attention of her daughter who looked at her with shock, "Where did you find them?" she said as she walked up to her mother and grabbed the keys.
"They were on the self." she replied pointing to the spot they were at making Asterian sigh. "Should've known." she replied as they both chuckled.
Diana nodded, "Alright, come on we better get going if we don't want to be late." she said as they both grabbed their coats as they left the apartment.
The Smithsonian
Diana and Asteria headed into the Smithsonian to work; they were helping out with ancient artifacts to find out when they made and what connection they had to people.
"What do you want me to do today, Mom?" Asteria asked as she and Diana walked into their shared office and hung up their jackets.
"Well, you've got work with artifacts from Egypt today. And I've got some paperwork to finish." Diana told her daughter and Asteria rolled her eyes then walked off with a smile on her face. Diana sat down behind her desk and was about to start work when she heard something outside of her office and a woman shout "oops". Confused, Diana got up and walked out of her office to see a blonde curly haired woman in a pink top, beige skirt and brown heels picking up shattered pieces of paper.
"Hi Jake. Jake Hi, could you help me?" she tried to ask one of the employees that walked by ignoring her. She saw the woman sigh trying to pick up the peppers before looking at the desk, "I know, walk much the latch…" she trailed off as another co-worker turned and walked off ignoring her. Diana sighed as she walked over and bent down, starting to help the young woman pick up the paperwork. "Good morning." She greeted the young woman.
"Hi, Thank you." The woman smiled and Diana nodded. "Diana Prince. Cultural anthropology and archaeology." she introduced herself with a small smile.
"Barbra Minerva. Geology, Gemology, and part time cryptozoologist" Barbra replied letting out a little chuckle picking up her papers. "I kept busy in college." she added as she stood up along with Diana.
"Sorry, it's these heels, you know I just stupid. I don't know why I was gonna wear heels, scientists don't wear heels." the woman rambled as Diana nodded. "Sometimes we do" she replied to the woman getting ready to leave.
Barbra looked at Diana's heels, "Right." she replied. Diana started walking away, "Have a nice day." she told the woman.
"Right. those are cool!" she commented pointing towards the heels, slightly jealous. "I like those. Animal prints like, reow." she said intimidating a cat as Diana nodded wanting to get back to work.
"Do you wanna get lunch?" she asked, kinda wanting to hang out with her new friend. "I um…." Diana started to say thinking of an excuse. But was interrupted, "Not Now. Obviously. It's morning. But later today., or whenever. Like around….Like at Lunchtime?." she added holding to her brown briefcase.
Diana sighs, "I have a lot of work today. But maybe some other time?" she asked, as Barbra nodded. "Oh. Yeah, I'm busy today too." she replied disappointed and embarrassed of asking someone like Diana to lunch.
"Great." The Amazon nodded, getting ready to leave when their supervisor came walking, "Ah! Diana, do you happen to know who a Barbra Minerva is?" she asked, but before Diana could answer Barbra raised her hand, "Oh, hi Carol hi. It's me, Barbra. Minerva. Remember you...you hired me. Started last week." she informed as the dark skinned woman nodded and out on a force smile.
"Oh. Gemologist?" she asked as Barbra nodded, "Yes, and Zoologist. We had a couple of….uh interviews." she started awkwardly.
Carol nodded, "Yeah. Well, the FBI are gonna drop off some artifacts later this afternoon." she reported.
"The FBI?" Barbra asked, stunned that she's gonna be working with the FBI.
"Yeah. Yes." she replied. Barbra gasps, "They're coming here?" she asked, kinda excited.
Caroll nodded, "The mall heist yesterday." She mentioned making Diana stop and looked at her boss and decided to stay and listen, taking an interest in the conversation. "Apparently, they were using a jewelry store as a front." their boss added.
"A Front for what?" Diana asked interested in the reason why. She looked up to see her daughter coming out of their office and joining in on the conversation, also interested in what was being said.
"Black Market. Stolen jewels and art meant for private buyers. But we could use your help identifying one in particular." she said looking at Barbra.
"My help?" she asked as she let out a laugh, "Yeah, I'll help the FBI with whatever they need." she replied with a smile on her face.
"Is that a yes?" Carol asked with a forced smile.
Barbra sobered up, "Yeah. I would, um….I would love to assist you." she stated as Carol nodded. "Wonderful. Nice to meet you." she started getting ready to walk away. "We've met." Barbra commented as their boss walked away
"Have a nice day." Diana said walking away with her daughter. "Bye Diana." Barbra called out watching as the two women walked away.
Several Hours Later
In the room where all of the artifacts from the mall heist was stashed at, Barbra was holding a recorder, recording what she finds. "Okay. Item number 23." she says as she uncovers a piece of jewelry. "Shoot. That's not it." she said looking around to determine which is number 23.
The sound of Diana's voice startled her a little as she looked up at the two women that came in. "Oh, the Empress of Siam." she said lightly touching the stones, "Originally found in the wreck of the Nuestra Senora de Atocha." she added as Barbra was stunned.
"Wow!" she commented. Diana smiled, "Sorry. I couldn't resist coming to see." she replied as Barbra shook her head, "Oh it's okay." she said as she moved to a small crate and took off the lid. "Oh here it is." she said reading the tag.
"What is it?" asked the unfamiliar woman with blonde hair. "I'm sorry, I didn't introduce you two. Barbara, this is my daughter, Asteria. Asteria, this is my friend, Barbara Minerva." Diana introduced the pair and they shook hands.
"Your daughter?" Barbara asked and Diana nodded proudly with a smile. "Wow! She's just as beautiful as you, Diana!" Barbara exclaimed and Diana smiled at the compliment. "It's lovely to meet you, Asteria. And might I say what a beautiful name that is." Asteria smiled as she was happy to know that someone loved her name.
"Thank you, Barbara. You're very nice." Asteria complimented back her accent slipping through her lips and Barbara smiled then got back to the stone as she took a magnifying glass. "About the stone, I can't tell what it is." she said, bringing the box over to the table. "Some light." she said as she took one of those mini telescope things to get a closer look.
Barbra chuckles, "Um….It's….It's citrine." she said looking at the two women. A classic stoned. Used in fakes throughout history." she informed them and took it out of the bucks and looked it over and sigh, "I can't imagine this being worth anymore the $75. What do you think?" she asked Diana as the dark haired woman took the stone.
"Fakes aren't my forte, but let me see." she said looking it over with her daughter. "Mmm. Latin." Asteria commented as Diana nodded.
"At least it's an antique right?" Barbra asked as Asteria shrugged, "Or a purchase from a stall on the Ponte Vecchio last week." she joked as Barbra nodded. "Mmm-hmm You never know." she hummed as Diana took the rock back from her daughter.
"Place upon the object held but one great wish." Diana translated reading the latin language.
Barbra was stunned, "You read Latin?" she asked as Diana looked at the blonde and nodded.
"Yeah. Yeah, Languages are a hobby of mine." she commented making an excuse as she looked over the other artifacts.
"So maybe it's, like, a lucky charm or something?" asked Barbra as Diana nodded agreeing with her new friend. "Yeah, I guess. Strange." she replied as one of the co-workers touched the stone. "I wish I had some coffee." he joked before walking off, making Barbra chuckle at the sense of humor.
A few minutes later another co-worker walked in, "Hey, I got a coffee for Erica but she's out sick. Does anybody want this?" He offered holding up a coffee cup. The same guy who made a wish laughed, "What? Yeah, I'll take one." he said looking at the ladied with a shrug before walking off drinking it
Barbra gasps, "Did you see that?" she asked, wondering if there was more to the stone than meets the eye.
"Oh…"Diana said looking at her daughter as the mother looked at the crystal and got a very weird feeling about it. "Can you imagine?" Barbra asked snapping Diana out of her thoughts.
"If only." Asteria replied as Barbra nodded, "Hmm. So many things, I don't even know what I would wish for." she commented, thinking about her wishes.
"I do." Diana whispered and sigh as she closed her eyes then a breeze went through her before she opened her eyes and set the crystal back. "Well, um, anyway, sorry to bother you. If you need anything, we're around." she offered as she backed up getting ready to leave with Asteria.
"Oh Yeah, I'm good. But thank you for…." she started to say but was interrupted by Asteria, "That's okay. It's her job." she said pointing towards her mother with a smile. Diana smiled as well, "And I'll look more into it when I have the chance." Diana replied as Barbra nodded. "Ok. Well, thanks for….talking to me." she chuckles nervously. "I',...I'm sorry, uh...I mean I'm fine."she replied kind awkwardly feeling like she can be friends with Diana and her daughter.
"You know, we could go and grab an early dinner and talk about how lame that stone is." Diana offered as Barbra looked up stunned as if she couldn't believe that she was going to have dinner with Diana and her daughter.
"Really?" she asked as Asteria nodded with a smile. "Yeah I mean Citrine? Who are they kidding right?" she asked as Barbra chuckled. "So lame." she replied as Diana shook her head. "Dorky." she commented as all three women left the room.
