Chasing Cars

We'll do it all

Everything

On our own

We don't need

Anything

Or anyone

It was such a beautiful day, Fred and Daphne decided to take a walk up the hills surrounding Crystal Cove.

The week had been so long, and just awful for them both.

Velma announced that she was moving away to the other side of the country for university, she didn't want to leave her friends and she would have preferred to stay in Crystal Cove and go to Darrow University, but New York had more to offer her.

That would leave Fred Daphne, Shaggy and Scooby, for a few months at least.

Shaggy was leaving too, since graduating culinary school he had decided to travel and explore the world of food – Scooby would be going with him of course.

Daphne and Fred loved to have time to themselves, but it was going to be different to be without their friends for such a long time.

They both knew the gang wouldn't stay together forever, they each had their own lives to get on with. But while Velma, Shaggy and Scooby were moving on from Crystal Cove, Daphne and Fred felt as if their lives might not go anywhere.

That's what Fred's father had said to him anyway, and Daphne's parents were very supportive – especially as she had five older sisters, all with promising careers.

If I lay here

If I just lay here

Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Fred chuckled, 'It does not look like a doughnut, it looks like Saturn.'

Daphne laughed, 'No, it's a doughnut.'

'What about that one then?'

'It's a triangle, Fred.'

'No, you're wrong, it's a slice of pizza.' He teased.

Daphne rolled her eyes, but she laughed, 'Look the birds flew in front of it and it looked like a doughnut.'

Fred laughed, 'I thought it looked like Saturn.'

'It looked more like a doughnut than Saturn.'

Fred pressed a quick kiss to her cheek, 'If you say so.'

Forget what we're told

Before we get too old

Show me a garden that's bursting into life

The sky turned from bright blue to orange and red as the sun began to set.

'Wanna head back?' Fred asked, he sat up and looked at the town below, but Daphne was still looking at the sky, she sighed, 'Yeah, I suppose so.'

Fred stood up and held his hand out to Daphne, she took it and Fred helped her up. Still holding tightly to each other's hands, they walked back down the hill to Crystal Cove.

On the way up the hill hours ago, they had admired the wildflowers growing on the hillside, but now on their way back down the hill, Daphne looked out at the sea and the light from the lighthouse lighting the way for ships sailing to Crystal Cove Harbour.

They came closer to the town, and in good time too – the sky had become darker as night crept in.

There was so much artificial light in the town that one could not see the stars.

Fred looked at Daphne as she was looking up at the sky, he smiled a little.

Instead of leading her back to her home, he pulled her towards the Malt Shop, 'Our date isn't over yet, Daph.'

The way Fred would smile at her made her blush heavily.

They shared a pizza and large strawberry lemonade – Fred held her hand across the table.

When they left the Malt Shop, Fred walked Daphne back to Blake Manor.

Daphne could see the light in the parlour was on and guessed that her parents were sipping white wine and discussing "important things".

Fred pulled Daphne close to him and kissed her sweetly.

'Wear something warm tomorrow.' He said when he pulled away.

'Why? It's summer, Freddie.'

'I know that.' He smiled, 'But it gets chilly at night.'

'Huh?'

'You wanna watch the stars.' He gave her a quick kiss, 'I'll pick you up tomorrow, night Daph.'

He winked, 'I love you.'

'I love you too.'

He turned away and walked through the huge gates before disappearing into the darkness.

Daphne slumped against the door, as she watched him go, she blushed heavily before she entered the manor.
