Summary: Peeta's thoughts on Katniss at the end of Mockingjay Part One. One-shot. Everlark.
A/N: Written for school, as that's all I write poetry for.
I Watched You As We Grew
I have watched you walk home everyday,
Through snow and rain,
Smiling at the mockingjays.
I have fought alongside you in the Games.
I loved you all the way,
Even when everything went up in flames.
And when we went back for round two,
I felt the same.
I smiled as you flew
Into the hall of fame.
I watched you from my prison,
Stared as you defiled your name.
But my own has risen.
Katniss, are you aware that this is no game?
This is serious.
What are you doing?
Snow may be imperious,
But now a war is brewing.
Please, Katniss.
Listen to me.
This is madness.
You are leading us to the Hanging Tree.
I love you,
But this is not how it should be.
If only you knew,
How to agree.
Our love,
It has turned into a twisted game.
Look at me now,
With my hands on you.
I don't want to be your snowplow.
But someone must be run through.
And if you refuse to bow,
Then it is I who must shoo.
You are my Mockingjay,
And I must pay.
This is the only way.
I have watched you
As we grew.
And now it is time for us to part,
Because I am your counterpart.
