Yarrow woke with the sun, a full two hours before his regular alarm. He looked at said alarm on his bedside table and he raised his eyebrows. He never woke up this early! It was simply unheard of! Then it hit him. His boss told him yesterday that she had a special task for him, but didn't divulge any more information. Yarrow couldn't wait to find out what this task was! His boss, the Supreme Kai of Time, informed him yesterday that this Parallel Quest was extremely dangerous, making him shake with anticipation. If the task was dangerous, the chances are that there would be a great fight!
His smile looked as if it was surgically attached as he kicked off his bedsheets and went to the bathroom for his morning ablutions. After completing them in record time, he rushed back to his bedroom, in order to put some clothes on. He stared at his wardrobe hologram, trying to decide what to wear. Thinking of his boss' words, he decided to wear his navy-blue bodysuit with his white Saiyan armor, along with some white gloves and shoes, thinking that it would provide decent protection.
He looked at himself in the mirror and chuckled. He looked just like Vegeta. He didn't know if his mentor would appreciate imitating his style, but Yarrow shrugged and got out of his half-sphere shaped house. The weather was great today, the sky clear and the birds were chirping happily. A warm breeze welcomed him when he stepped on the grass in his front porch, his black spiky hair following it. He closed his blue-grey eyes and took a deep breath, a gentle smile adorning his face. When he reopened his eyes, they were focused. He turned his gaze on the time nest portal and he took flight, going as fast as he could. He really wanted to learn about this quest, after all.
When he entered the portal, he smiled at the familiar sight in front of him. The time nest looked the same as always. A green sky was seen outside of the bird-cage size dome. Walking towards his boss' house, he was thinking that the shape of the Time Nest was fitting; it was the home of a bird after all. As he reached the house he started to look around, trying to see if his boss was waiting for him there. He marveled at his boss' mess. The place outside her home was littered with various technological knicknacks, ranging from old TVs to space pods. The thought that this woman was responsible for the correct order of the timelines and taking care of the time bird drew a chuckle out of him. He shook his head at the mess and tried to sense the Supreme Kai's energy. He should have known, she was inside the Time Vault. He followed the cobbled path towards it, waving hello to Toki Toki, before his thoughts returned to the impending quest, his hands shaking with excitement once again.
When he entered, he saw a sight that made him roll his eyes. His boss, Chronoa, a petite Supreme Kai with pinkish-red hair and skin, was arguing with the Old Kai. Her childlike features held a deep frown, matching the short man's wrinkly face. He looked quite funny when he was angry. His toothbrush mustache twitched and his face turned a deeper shade of purple than his skin tone. Seeing him in such a state made him chuckle. The deities, hearing the chuckle, turned to face him, pausing their verbal sparring.
"What's so funny?" the Old Kai shouted, his single tuft of white hair bouncing.
"Nothing!" Yarrow said a little too quickly, raising his hands in a gesture to placate the old deity while trying -and failing miserably- to hide his chuckles.
The old man glared at him through narrowed eyes, but before he could retort, Chronoa jumped in.
"Good morning Yarrow!" Chronoa said, a wide smile on her cute round face, before rolling her eyes at the other Kai's grumpy attitude.
"Good morning, Supreme Kai of Time!" Yarrow replied cheerfully.
"Oi! Did you not see me?" the Old Kai piped in, his glare intensifying and crossing his arms in front of his chest.
"Well, you know that I always greet the boss first, Old Kai. Anyway, good morning to you too!" Yarrow said, not losing any of his cheerfulness from the Kai's attitude.
As per usual, the Old Kai acknowledged his response with a grumbled "Good morning.".
"How are you today?" Yarrow asked the deities.
"I was having a pretty good day, before this old fossil started grumbling about sending more people to the new quest." Chronoa said, shooting an annoyed look to the other Kai.
"Hey! Who are you calling a fossil? You are just as old as me!" he retorted. "Anyway, I still believe that more time-patrollers should join him. This version of Broly is extremely dangerous! His insanity makes him very unpredictable and his power is nothing to scoff at either!" he defended.
"Can someone tell me what's going on? I will fight Broly?" Yarrow asked, a frown marring his features while he scratched his chin.
"Ah, yes. I forgot that I didn't fill you in on the quest." the Supreme Kai of Time said with a wince. "Anyway. A new parallel dimension popped up yesterday. It seems that there's a Broly inside, wreaking havoc. He has already destroyed 5 planets! The problem is that this isn't our Broly. He appears to be deranged, screaming Goku's name over and over again." she explained.
"Shall we head to the Parallel Quest building?" Yarrow asked. "We could talk more about this on the way."
Both deities nodded and they started heading towards the PQ building, before Yarrow spoke again.
"I need to know, is he strong?" Yarrow asked, an excited glint in his eyes, his body trembling from anticipation.
"Well, to be honest, he doesn't even come close at your level." Chronoa said, wincing. She needed to make Yarrow take this seriously. "Don't make the mistake to think that this will be an easy fight though. Don't forget that, for all intents and purposes, he's insane. That will make him very unpredictable." she continued, staring intently at the young man, who visibly deflated.
"Why would I need any help then? To me, it seems that this Broly has only his insanity going for him! I've already gone toe-to-toe with Goku, while he was in Mastered Ultra Instinct form, for Zeno's sake! If he isn't as strong as me, then why don't you send another time patroller?", Yarrow argued back.
"Because you are the best one we have!" Chronoa stated, shooting a glare at the Saiyan.
"I don't know if you forgot, but Fuu got away with a huge amount of energy! What if he decides to mess with the timeline again and give Broly the energy he stole to fight back? It would be a catastrophe! Why take unnecessary risks? We can never be too careful!" Old Kai retorted.
"Anyway, I think that Yarrow can handle that guy if he takes the fight seriously." Chronoa said, fixing Yarrow with a sharp look, the latter looking back, a sheepish smile on his face while scratching the back of his head. "Besides, Fu made our lives difficult by giving energy to people that were already extremely powerful. He would need a huge amount of energy in order to close the gap between Broly and Yarrow and I don't think that he managed to get away with the amount needed." She concluded.
"Fine. I don't like it though." Yarrow sulked.
"Will we send more time patrollers?" Old Kai asked again.
"I don't think it's needed." Chronoa said while shrugging.
"Whatever." Old Kai sighed.
Finally, they reached their destination and Chronoa turned to face Yarrow once more, the Saiyan looking back at her expectantly.
"Yarrow, I don't need to tell you twice. We need you to finish it fast. What the Old Kai said isn't wrong, Fu really could show up, no matter how minimal his chances of having that much energy may be." She said seriously.
"Don't worry Supreme Kai of Time! When was the last time that I let you down?" the young Saiyan said, perking up a little bit and smiled at his boss.
"Truth is, that you have helped us a lot these past years. For that reason I must tell you to please, stay safe out there." She said, the worry she felt mirroring on her face. Yarrow was one of her favorite and most valued Time Patrollers, after all.
"I'll be careful! I'll be sure to stay in touch through the comms. Bye!" he said before entering a time machine and vanishing from the spot.
Chronoa and the Old Kai shared a look before they both teleported back to the Time Nest.
Yarrow found himself in the outer atmosphere of a planet. He exited his time machine and shrinked it in its capsule, before placing it with his others. He didn't sense any life energy on the planet below, so he shrugged and proceeded to descend. The sky was a deep purple, matching the planet's hue. He locked to Broly's energy and used instant transmission to teleport near him. When he reappeared, his feet landing on the solid ground, he saw a behemoth of a man throwing ki blasts in the nearby mountains.
He was huge! His hair was green and spiky and he didn't have pupils in his eyes. He was enveloped in a green aura, which was moving erratically around his body similar to an electrical current.
"Kakarooooot!" Broly screamed, throwing around more energy blasts. Two more mountains became nothing but dust, effectively creating a valley where they used to stand.
'Huh, he could have a great future in the terraforming industry.' Yarrow thought, before cocking his head to the left and placing a hand under his chin. 'Now that I think about it, all of us could.'
"Yarrow! Can you hear me?" Chronoa's voice came from his comm, shaking him out of his thoughts.
"Loud and clear!"
"What are you waiting for? Go and kill him!" Old Kai shouted in his ear, making Yarrow wince.
"Okay, yeesh! Impatient much?" Yarrow asked the slightly annoying deity, before shouting "Hey, Broly!".
Hearing Yarrow's voice, the giant turned his attention towards him. When he saw Yarrow, he roared once more before releasing a huge explosive shockwave from his body, creating a huge crater where he was standing. When the energy from the wave died down, Broly charged at the other Saiyan.
Yarrow was dodging effortlessly, his power far outstripping the other Saiyan's. He threw a punch of his own, impacting Broly and sending him flying through three mountains, before coming to a stop in the fourth.
"Seriously? This is the big tough guy? I needed help for this?" Yarrow questioned the Kais while frowning.
"What are you doing? Keep pressing now that you have the advantage!" Old Kai said, scolding him all the while ignoring his question.
"Alright" was the reply, with Yarrow rolling his eyes, a gesture that could not be seen from the deity's position on the comms.
Before he could charge Broly, who now appeared to have regained his balance, a figure appeared in front of him.
"Fu?!" Yarrow exclaimed, his eyebrows nearly reaching his hairline.
Before him stood a young, purple skinned man, wearing long-sleeved shoes, mustard yellow pants and a leathered, black shirt. The shirt had an "X" between the columns on both of its sleeves with a black buckled belt on top of the waist area of his shirt.
"It's me! Your favorite scientist!" Fu said, almost too cheerfully.
"What are you doing here?" Yarrow asked wide eyed, clearly surprised.
"Finish Broly now, before that boy interferes!" the Old Kai screamed.
"I was chilling in my lab the other day, and an idea struck me! When you fight, I always give power to your stronger opponents. I wanted to test how much power a weaker opponent would need, in order to give my favorite time patroller, that's you by the way, a proper challenge! I needed someone with lower battle power than yours, but who would give me an exciting fight, so I chose this version of Broly! His insanity would provide me with some interesting data. Also, I will get to see how you will handle an opponent who is completely off his rocker! I think it is a win-win for both of us!" With these words he vanished, while Broly started screaming again.
Broly's power was skyrocketing! He was enveloped in a repulsive purple aura that made Yarrow cringe. The evilness in Broly's aura was disgusting. Broly's eyes were completely red this time around. What unbalanced Yarrow even more, was the sinister smirk on his opponent's face. The terrifying Saiyan raced towards him and managed to finally hit him with a punch on the top of his head, sending him crashing in the ground below. Before Yarrow managed to get up, Broly released a torrent of dark purple energy blasts, driving Yarrow further and further into the earth. Broly proceeded to land in the crater and grabbed Yarrow by his hair, lifting him up and flying out of the crater in the process. Broly let out a great number of punches, all connecting to various parts of Yarrows' body, making him scream in pain. Before long, Broly charged his ki in his fist and punched Yarrow in the face, sending him crashing to a small hill. It appeared that the fight had just become a lot harder.
After overcoming his initial shock and pain, Yarrow's eyes held an excited glint, a grin threatening to split his face in two. After all it wasn't every day that an opponent like this came around! He was going to have a really good time! With these thoughts, he transformed into a Super Saiyan God, figuring that the form would be enough, and charged Broly head on, the behemoth doing the same.
They were evenly matched. They threw around punches, kicks and energy beams, destroying the planet even more. The ground was littered with craters, the mountains nearby reduced to dust some time ago. The sky had darkened considerably, lava was pooling in most of the craters below due to the Saiyans energy attacks directed at each other. The wind was howling and the temperature on the planet was reaching new heights as time passed.
Suddenly, after a particularly vicious punch from Yarrow, Broly stilled in mid-air and started charging his energy in his fist. Yarrow took notice and began doing the same, wanting this to be the finishing punch.
Seemingly satisfied, Broly charged at Yarrow, his fist at the ready. Yarrow did the same, trying to block out the deities, who were giving him instructions from his comm.
"Yarrow stop toying with him! Power up to your maximum! Do you want-"
As their fists collided, something peculiar happened. The place where they were fighting shattered like glass and the fighters found themselves in a weird place.
"What the fuck? Where am I?" Yarrow was flabbergasted, looking around the weird place and feeling extremely disoriented. He couldn't tell what upside or downside was, the 3 dimensions no longer at play here. The worst thing though was that when he entered this place, he couldn't hear the Supreme Kai of Time anymore. Their connection was cut.
Broly, seeing that he couldn't reorient himself, decided that the best course of action was to attack the other man, which he promptly did. Yarrow, having no choice at the matter, kept on fighting the unstable giant, putting aside his concerning thoughts.
After the duo clashed a little bit more in this strange place, going further and further away from their point of arrival, Broly started to charge his energy, intending to destroy the other Saiyan. Seeing this, Yarrow began charging up a Kamehameha wave too. They fired their attacks simultaneously, Yarrow's light blue wave clashing with Broly's purplish one.
When the energy beams touched, their newfound location also shattered, and they found themselves in a beam struggle. Yarrow pushed with all his might and managed to overpower Broly who became encompassed in the light of the Kamehameha, flying away.
Using this respite, Yarrow took the chance to speak with Chronoa.
"Supreme Kai of Time, are you there?" he asked frantically, but no answer came from his comm. He looked around and saw that they weren't in the same battlefield any longer. They were surrounded by large mountains, a big lake and a castle was standing proud a little bit further.
'Shit! Where am I?" Yarrow thought.
In his confused state, he didn't notice the other Saiyan moving towards him with incredible speed, hitting him and sending Yarrow to crash in a lake below.
Submerged under the water, his only thought was 'I need to finish this now!'. With that thought, he powered up to his Super Saiyan Blue Evolution, his strongest transformation yet. The calm water of the lake around him changing to a raging whirlpool, with Yarrow at his center.
"Ok Broly, time to finish this!" He said, his blue eyes focusing on the giant, before starting to charge a Final Kamehameha.
Broly's glowing red-eyes focused on the bright ball of energy in Yarrow's hands and he released a terrifying roar. His voice carried for miles, echoing off different objects distorting the noise even further. He began to charge an Eraser Cannon, causing a huge dome to take form around him, before he pulled it all into his palm. The ground below them was shaking, the sky darkening as he powered his attack.
Yarrow's eyes briefly widened, before focusing on his enemy once more. Broly's energy attack could cause irreparable damage if it connected with the planet. His eyes filled with determination, he released the wave, putting everything he had in it.
Their energy attacks met halfway with a grand explosion, producing many shockwaves and strong, wild winds. This time though, Yarrow's Kamehameha overpowered Broly's attack with apparent ease, moving faster and faster towards the behemoth. When he saw his attack failing, Broly raised his hands, intending to hold off the energy wave. His efforts were for naught though, as the beam enveloped him easily, its power being extraordinary.
Yarrow didn't let up though, he had to finish it now. Not knowing where he was or what the repercussions of fighting longer would be, he gave a final push.
Broly let out a scream of pure agony, as he was obliterated by the wave. Seeing that his attack was successful, Yarrow flew out of the lake and powered down when he reached the shore, before flaring his aura in order to dry himself from the lake's water. The elements ceased their frantic movements now that the fight was over. Yarrow looked at the sky and frowned, as the clouds had not dispersed yet. He decided to fix that, throwing a small ball of energy at the sky. The ball exploded, releasing a maelstrom of wind which cleared out the clouds and the sun was prevalent once more.
Harry was having a bad time at Hogwarts this year. When he first arrived for his fourth year, he was confident that he would have a calm year. When Dumbledore announced the Tri-Wizard Tournament, he was initially excited, even entertaining some ideas to enter himself. He was a bit put off when it became known that only adults could compete, but ultimately decided that it would be for the best. The tournament's death count was nothing to scoff at, and he already had his fair share of life and death situations.
He was preparing for a quiet year before it became apparent that someone had other plans. It was Halloween night when the champions would be chosen. A niggling thought at the back of his mind was making him nervous. Halloween wasn't historically a good day for him: His parents died on Halloween, a troll attack in first year, a basilisk attack in the second, his godfather attacking a portrait in the third… Surely nothing bad would happen this year. Right? Of course not. Instead of three pieces of parchment, four came out of the goblet, his name written on the last one. The worst thing though was that he couldn't back out of the tournament, no matter how much he wished to.
Being named the fourth champion brought a lot of unwanted attention towards him once again. He couldn't fail but notice how the entirety of Hogwarts' student body, sans the Gryffindors, were wearing a badge that changed from "Support Cedric Diggory, the real Hogwarts' champion" to "Potter stinks" with just a tap from their wands. Skeeter's article didn't help either. He could do nothing about it though, the mountains are used to the snow, after all.
Fortunately, one of his best friends, Hermione Granger, stood by him. When his name came out, she knew that he didn't do it and something was suspicious. She vowed to help him prepare for the tournament, something she took very seriously. The two trained and practiced magic together every day in their free periods.
He was currently relaxing with Hermione outside the castle. They had a free period and the weather was excellent, so they decided to spend it outside. It was November, after all. These days would be hard to come by later. So, they decided to practice in the evening and make the most use out of this fine day.
They were sitting in Harry's favorite place by the Great Lake and Hermione was making a list on what spells he needed to learn, before Harry decided to speak.
"Hagrid asked me to go to his house under the cloak tonight." He said.
Hermione looked up from her parchment, confusion scarring her features.
"What would warrant the use of the cloak?"
"Beats me. He just said to be there at ten-thirty. Oh, I had a strange dream last night. It was midnight and a dog appeared in the common room's fireplace" he said, fixing Hermione with a meaningful look.
"Ohh." Came the simple reply, Hermione's bushy eyebrows reaching her hairline in surprise. "How… Peculiar. Do you remember what it was about?" she inquired.
Harry was about to answer before an earthquake interrupted him and two clashing lights appeared in the air.
"What the bloody hell is that?" were the shocked words. It was a testament to Hermione's own shock that she didn't scold him for his use of improper language.
*BOOM*
Just as suddenly as the lights appeared, they disappeared. A lone figure was floating in the air above them. Before they could even blink, the figure disappeared and a huge wave rose from the lake. Being so close, they got soaked to the bone, the cold water managing to make their shock recede somewhat.
Before they could get their bearings, a huge pressure settled in their shoulders, making their ears pop, the entirety of the lake becoming a whirlpool in front of their eyes, with a man with spiky blue hair and a blue matching aura in its midst. The man raised his arms in a t-pose, two yellow energy beams coalescing in his palms. He changed his pose into a semi-crouch, bringing his hands to his side, merging the two energy balls which changed colors to a light blue with yellow bolts appearing every now and then.
When the man changed pose, the earthquakes increased in power, the wind became even more erratic and the sky darkened even more, making the two friends unable to get to their feet and flee.
Harry followed the man's gaze and he saw a behemoth floating in the air, surrounded in purple energy. He couldn't even think of getting to his feet, when the man in the lake released his energy, creating a light blue beam with yellow electricity roaming along, its size being half the diameter of the Great Lake. Both children crawled backwards, not wanting to be near the humongous beam.
As suddenly as the beam came, it disappeared. With it, the earth stopped shaking and the wind calmed. The huge man in the sky was nowhere to be found and the only thing that remained were the clouds and the man in the lake.
Said man floated out in the lake while his hair turned black. His clothes were torn, but he didn't seem injured. He was looking at the sky, before releasing another energy ball, this one the size of a golf ball. When the ball reached the sky it exploded, scattering the clouds, the sun shining once more.
A huge ball of fire erupted near Yarrow, coalescing into the form of an old man and a strange bird shaped like a turkey. The man had a severe look on his face while looking at Yarrow and then turned to look at the bird. At the old man's look, the bird started singing, giving the students who were scattered around courage, their shock abating.
When Yarrow heard the bird sing, a gentle smile came unwittingly on his face, his troubling thoughts all but vanishing. He didn't notice the man staring at him, whose shoulders slumped, his relief painted for all to see on his wrinkly face.
Harry decided to walk towards the headmaster, Hermione following in his trail. They both saw the effect of Fawkes' song on the man and the evident relief on Dumbledore's face. Fawkes' song made them come out of their stupor, and they figured it would be safe to go there when the headmaster untensed. When they were nearing the two men's location, they heard their Headmaster introducing himself.
"Good morning. My name is Albus Dumbledore and this is Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Who might you be?" the old Headmaster inquired.
"Good morning Mr. Dumbledore. I'm Yarrow!" the Saiyan replied.
"Would you be kind enough to satisfy an old man's curiosity, Mr. Yarrow?"
Yarrow took a deep breath and looked around. He tried to sense familiar energies, but no matter how long he stretched his energy, he could not find one. Sighing, he spoke. "Sure, why not?"
"Excellent! Ah, young Harry and Ms. Granger, how are you this fine morning?" Dumbledore said, noticing the teens.
It was Harry that replied. "We were fine Headmaster, at least before the earthquakes, the wind and the immense pressure."
Hearing his reply Dumbledore chuckled.
"Seriously though, what happened?" he added before turning to look to the weird man. If the headmaster was relaxed around him, then it would be safe. "Who are you? How did you do that?"
"This is something that I'd like to hear myself." Dumbledore said, an easy smile on his face "Perhaps we could talk more comfortably at my office? I'm an old man, after all."
"Sure, why not." Was the reply.
"Farewell, Harry, Ms. Granger." He said to the students with a smile, before turning his attention to the man. "If you would be kind enough to follow me." And with these words he turned and started to walk towards the castle.
They reached the castle and walked towards the Headmaster's office. The students had a shocked expression on their faces, having felt the commotion outside and they watched the headmaster and the muscular man next to him with interest. Yarrow was busy looking around, his mouth partly opened. He marveled in the castle's energy. It was drenched in magic! He could spot the difference between ki and magic easily now. Piccolo had taught him some magic-based techniques after all, so it was somewhat familiar.
Dumbledore, noticing the man's look chuckled. "The castle is beautiful, isn't it?" he said.
It took a while for Yarrow to process the man's words and replied "It really is! It isn't only the architecture or the moving portraits though. The whole feeling that this place emits, the magic coating everything, is amazing!" he said, excitement coloring his words.
"Indeed. You can feel the castle's magic?" Dumbledore asked, a surprised look appearing on his face.
"Yeah, it's not that hard." Yarrow said nonchalantly with a shrug.
They reached a gargoyle, which stepped aside, revealing a spiral staircase. After they climbed the stairs, they entered into the Headmaster's office, Dumbledore sitting behind his desk.
Yarrow stood, taking in the room with his mouth slightly open. The office was packed to capacity with various knickknacks, which spinned and puffed smoke. Two huge bookcases, filled with ancient looking books, stood behind the Headmaster's desk, the space in between them filled with portraits. A fireplace was to his right, the flames merrily dancing to an unknown tune. Many windows were littered in the circular office, the biggest one being to his left. Next to the window stood a perch, where the weird bird moved to sit upon.
Seeing the man's amazed expression, he decided to grant him a reprieve, so he offered him a seat. The young man nodded and sat across him, crossing his legs.
"Mr. Yarrow, I have many things that I wish to know. First of all, I would like to inquire about the reason you are here." Dumbledore said, leaning in and putting his elbows on his desk while steepling his fingers.
"To be honest, Mr. Dumbledore, I don't know how I ended up here. Maybe I could start from the beginning and then you can ask your questions?" Yarrow offered, frowning thoughtfully.
He felt that he could trust the old man. His energy, although small, felt neutral to the young man, something that pleased him. Only people with good intentions had neutral ki.
"Well, I should start from the beginning. My name is Yarrow and I'm a time patroller. I had a mission today, in which I had to deal with someone messing with the timelines. He was the dude I was fighting when I arrived. The mission was pretty straightforward, but some complications arise." He started saying, his face contorted in a frown with a hand under his chin. "Somehow, the reality around us shattered and we found ourselves in a strange place. I feel that I have seen this place before, but I'm not sure. Anyway, we kept on fighting and that place also shattered before we got here. The communication with my boss was cut and I couldn't sense any familiar energies around the universe, so I decided to finish it as fast as I could." He said, replaying the fight inside his head.
"Oh! I know how we ended up here!" Yarrow said, excited. "The first time happened because our fists impacted with enormous force! That's how we found ourselves in a strange place. The second time was… Ah! That's right! We used some energy attacks! When they collided, we got here!" Yarrow said, pleased that he shed light on that mystery.
"I see." Dumbledore said, before he paused, thinking. "Am I right to assume that the big light blue wave was an energy attack?" he continued, scratching his long beard.
"Yes, that was the Final Kamehameha. It is a combination of two different ki attacks."
"What is ki?" Dumbledore asked the young Saiyan.
"Ki is basically life energy that we can shape it and use it both offensively and defensively. Every alive being has ki. From the grass and trees to animals and humans."
"Fascinating! Before we continue this train of thought, could you have an explanation pertaining to why didn't the shattering, as you eloquently put, didn't happen a third time? I remember your energies impacting for a second time while here."
The question had Yarrow stumped. He thought about every single detail but couldn't figure out a reason.
"To be honest, I don't know why it didn't happen. I was preoccupied and didn't pay that much attention to it." He said apologetically, shrugging.
Dumbledore looked at the man thoughtfully. He thought back about his reaction to Fawkes' song and was relieved to see that the man in front of him did not have evilness in his heart. Otherwise, his reaction wouldn't be a relaxed smile. His curiosity peaked, he decided to offer the man his pensieve, mostly wanting to see the shattering effect and the 'weird place' himself.
"Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the problem is that you can't remember all the details?" Dumbledore said.
"Pretty much." Yarrow said, crossing his arms.
"We could maybe use a device in my possession that would allow us to review your memories of the event. It has helped me a lot these past years. I'm not a young man anymore, so it helps me clear my thoughts." He offered.
Yarrow thought about the offer and decided to take it. He wanted to understand why the shatter happened. Maybe if he could relive it, he could remember where he saw that place before.
"Sure" was the simple reply, followed by a shrug.
Dumbledore stood up and walked towards a shallow stone basin, with odd carvings around the edge. It was filled with a silvery substance that appears to be a cloudy liquid or maybe gas. Yarrow couldn't put his finger on it.
"This is called a pensieve." Dumbledore said. "Its user can add his memories in, he would be able to review them from a third person's perspective."
"Cool! How do I add my memory though?" Yarrow replied, confusion etched in his face.
"I can assure you; it is quite simple. Think clearly about the memory you want, and I will use my wand to draw it out of your mind." The Headmaster explained.
"Sounds easy." He said and he scrunched up his face, clearly in thought. "Ok, you can do your magic now."
Dumbledore withdrew his wand from his holster and pointed it to Yarrow's temple. As he moved it away, a silver, hair-like wisp was on the wand's point and Dumbledore dropped it into the basin.
"Now we simply have to put a finger in." the older man said.
Yarrow did as he was instructed and found himself falling. He landed on the same battlefield that he was half an hour ago and started to look around. Finally, he spotted himself speaking with Fu and watched intently as the fight started.
Dumbledore stood next to him and started to look around. Before he could examine the place, loud explosions started happening and he looked around wildly. Before he could even blink, the place was a mess. The ground was shaking, not dissimilarly when the young man next to him arrived at Hogwarts. Lava exploded out of the ground like a geyser, creating pools in the craters that littered the place. Mountains were leveled like they were nothing more than sandcastles and the place was looking more like hell on earth each second that passed. Yarrow and a behemoth of a man were appearing and disappearing all over the place.
Yarrow was focused on the fight before him, not noticing the shell shocked look on the Headmaster's face. He remembered the exact time the shattering happened and focused even more on the two combatants, sensing their power levels continuously. When the inevitable happened and the place shattered like glass, he had an inkling on why it happened. Seeing that they were now in the weird place, he decided to look around to try and piece together their location. The fight would go on for some minutes after all.
After observing the strange place for some time, the realization hit him like a planet. They were in 'the in-between'! The space that was in between the realities! He remembered watching the fight between the normal Broly and Gogeta in the time nest with the deities. They found themselves in a place just like this! But, they came out in the same location, he thought and frowned. Why did he come out in a different dimension?
He decided to follow the battle once more, but they weren't near the fight anymore. He could feel the fight raging a good distance away from the place he was standing. He grabbed the stunned Headmaster's arm and he used instant transmission to teleport near the fight. He was pretty sure on how they came to be here, he just wanted to confirm it.
Dumbledore was even more shocked. He was looking around and the only thought on his mind was 'Strange place indeed'. He calmed himself using occlumency and turned his attention to the young man, noticing that he had a surprised expression on his face. Before he could ask if he could recognize the place, Yarrow grabbed his arm and he found himself next to the fight again.
Yarrow watched; his suspicions confirmed when they exited the in between and appeared in Hogwarts. Yarrow stopped paying attention to the fight, as he had gleaned everything he wanted from the memory. Turning his head to speak to the older man he saw him stumbling and grabbed him by the arm to stop him from falling.
Dumbledore took a deep breath to center himself and nodded his thanks to the young Saiyan. They returned to the desk and sat down. Normally, these pictures did not faze the Headmaster, as he was used to the sight of magical battlefields, where these sights were more common. What shook him, however, was the time that it took to produce this level of destruction. The energies at play were huge and he could not even blink before the place reminded him of hell. The man in front of him seemed that could reduce a mountain to rubble and not break a sweat, something that would trouble the wizened headmaster greatly, had his reaction to phoenix song been any different. He took another breath and started speaking.
"I must admit, I don't know what that place was. I must ask though, you mentioned a fight, but I could not see you in the battlefield. I only saw images of you and your opponent" The Headmaster asked, bemused.
"Yeah, that's because your eyes can't track the speed that we are moving in. The battle took less than 5 seconds total." Yarrow said, shrugging, making the eyes of the Headmaster almost pop out of his sockets. "Don't worry though, I figured out what happened."
"Pray tell, how did you get here?" Dumbledore eventually replied, after shaking himself from his stupor.
"You see, the world shattered because the power behind our attacks, physical or ki, was more or less the same. That triggered the shatter. The weird place we went to later is called the in-between. It is the space between the dimensions. Now, if our battle stayed near our point of entrance in the in-between then when we came out, we would be in our normal dimension. I don't know if you noticed, but we moved quite far from our point of entrance. That's why we arrived here, instead in our own dimension." Yarrow concluded, feeling pretty sure about his guess.
"How did you learn of that place though?" was the reply.
"Well, I'm a time patroller. It is my job to know about these things. Not to mention that I trained under my universe's God of Destruction and his Angel." Yarrow stated matter-of-factly, surprising the other man.
"Now a question of my own. What planet are we on? And what is the date?" Yarrow asked.
Dumbledore blinked and said "We are on planet Earth and today is 15th of November 1994. Are you suggesting that there's sentient life in other planets?"
"Of course there is! You are looking at an alien right now." Yarrow said, enjoying the look of surprise in the other man's face.
"Then what planet are you from, if not from Earth?"
"I'm a Saiyan! I don't know if we even exist here, though." Yarrow said cheerfully.
"I see… What exactly is a time patroller?" Dumbledore said, finding himself excited at the prospect of learning about other races.
"A time patroller is a guardian of time. When someone messes with the correct order of history it is our duty to stop them and set the timeline right. Our boss is the Supreme Kai of Time, a deity with control over time and caretaker of Toki Toki, a bird that controls time and lays eggs that create new universes."
As the Saiyan in front of him was talking, the wizard's eyebrows were steadily rising, his mouth falling open. It appeared that he had greatly underestimated the young man across him. He didn't believe that the man told him lies. He had felt a sliver of his power himself, after all.
"Extremely interesting. I believe I have many questions that I hope you will answer me in the near future, pertaining to your dimension. You seem knowledgeable on the subject and I would like to know more things. But let us move on other, more pressing matters. What are you planning on doing now that you are here?" Dumbledore asked.
"Well, there is one thing that troubles me. In 'the in-between', you lose your orientation and you can't measure distance or direction. During my fight with Broly we moved a lot further from the entry point than I anticipated. One solution would be to make a new tear in this reality and jump in. Once inside, I could go around and open new holes and sense the energies without jumping inside the dimension. I don't like this one though. It is true that time does not exist in 'the in-between', meaning that I can't age while I'm there, but it would be extremely time consuming. I don't like this though, as it would be like looking for a needle in a metric cube of haystack. Another would be to watch the fight again and try to trace my movements, but it would be extremely difficult too. Other than that, I don't really know." He finished, sighing.
"I'm sorry about your conundrum." The Headmaster said, feeling bad about the young Saiyan. "I would like to offer my help, even though I'm not sure it would be of much use." He offered, sympathetically.
"I appreciate that!" Yarrow said, not feeling that good about his chances of returning to his dimension.
"Magic is a wonderful thing Mr. Yarrow and you should not lose any hope. Maybe with your input we will be able to find a solution to your problem together." The old man said and Yarrow smiled, touched that a virtual stranger was offering his help.
"Ok then! Please tell me what I can do to pay you back for the help."
"I require nothing, Mr. Yarrow. I will research some truly fascinating magic, that is enough for me." Dumbledore chuckled.
"I insist!"
"Then you could regale me with some of your tales and the inner workings of the universe. Being mortal, learning that higher beings exist is unbelievable."
"I can do that! I need to warn you though, our dimensions could be really different, so I don't know if the workings of my universe are applicable to yours." Yarrow warned, a serious expression on his face.
"Worry not! I care not for my universe. Not learning about some things makes life more entertaining, don't you think?" Dumbledore offered, a smile adorning his face. "There is another matter that we need to speak about. Would you be agreeable in accepting accommodations in this castle?"
"You don't have to do that." Yarrow said, looking a little bit uncomfortable.
"Nonsense, my boy. It would be a pleasure having you here as a guest." Dumbledore retorted.
"In that case, I accept. Beats living in the wild, that's for sure!"
"I'm sure it does." Dumbledore chuckled yet again. "Also, this year we are hosting the Tri-Wizard Tournament, a magical competition that the best student for each school competes for eternal glory. Feel free to watch the tasks. The first one takes place on November twenty-fourth, ten days from now."
"I don't see why not." Yarrow said, before falling quiet. He did not know how long he would be here and was thinking about training. Truthfully, he couldn't train effectively here, the planet's conditions were too easy. He would give everything to have a room of spirit and-.
"Say, Headmaster, can you alter a place's gravity, pressure and temperature with magic?" Yarrow said, an excited glint in his eye.
"I believe it is possible, why?" Dumbledore questioned, confusion marring his features.
"Well, I need a place to train and I was thinking about a place back home which had the perfect training conditions. I was wondering if I could replicate it here." The Saiyan explained.
"You have experience with magic?" Dumbledore wondered.
"Kinda… I mean I know some spells, but I don't really use it nor research it."
"I see. The best person to speak about this is our esteemed charms master, professor Filius Flitwick. I can arrange a meeting between the two of you if you wish. You could also use an abandoned classroom for your training room."
"Thanks professor! You're the best!" Yarrow exclaimed, a grin splitting his face in two.
"It also seems that you are in dire need of some clothes. Maybe you could use some of our old uniforms." Dumbledore offered, making Yarrow look down at his clothes.
"They're pretty messed up, aren't they?" Yarrow mumbled. "Don't worry about my clothes though, I can make new ones." he said, his gaze returning to the old wizard.
"I see. If that is all, Bixby!" the headmaster called. A *POP* sound was heard, and a weird creature appeared in the room. Yarrow was surprised. The creature did not remind him of a race he had seen already. And he had seen a lot of races, being a Time Patroller.
"Professor Headmaster asked for Bixby, sir?" The creature asked in a squeaky voice.
"Yes Bixby. Please escort Mr. Yarrow to a guest room and see to his needs, while he stays here please." Dumbledore asked from the young elf then turned his head to the muscled man.
"You are free to join us in the Great Hall for the meals. If you are not inclined to do so, however, you can ask for Bixby so she can provide you with some food in your personal quarters." Albus said genially to the young man.
"Well, thanks again. Goodbye!" Yarrow said and followed Bixby out of the room.
