A Change of Scenery

Hi! My name Thor Pandarider. No I am not the god of thunder, nor do I own a panda (I kinda wish I did though). Anyways, right now, I'm in the middle of my online DND game.

"Now, as you come to the end of the cave, you are now in a decently lit room. Everyone please roll a perception check" asked the DM.

"I got a 19" I replied.

"I got a 10" whined someone else.

"WHY DO I KEEP GETTING NAT 1'S?!" another person angrily complained.

"Alright, why don't we go from worst to best?" The DM half asked, half stated.

You already know my name, but the others are my friends and they are Lora and Thomas (In order of score). We named our characters Thorum, Lorana, and Tom respectfuly. All of us are level 4 (out of 20), and of different races. Thorum is an elf, Lorana is a water genesi, and Tom is a dragonborn. Our story is that we grew up together in a dwarven nation, and where forced apart when I (Thorum) was forced to fight in the army. During that time, I was cursed by an enemy warlock to only be able to fight using a shield. Because of this, the DM let me have a +3 shield seeing as I wouldn't have any weapons.

"Okay. First off, Tom you failed to see a falling stone and it hit your head causing you to take 3 damage."

"Oh come on" Tom whined.

"Now for Lora. You see that the walls are made of gold, the floor of wood and the ceiling of stone. Lastly, Thorum. In the corner of the room you see a Spell Guard shield with a big green gemstone in the middle of it" the DM explained.

The currrent order of turns was Lora, then Tom, then me.

"I cast Detect Magic on the shield!" announced Lora.

"Roll for insight" requested the DM.

The sound of a rolling d20 could be heard through the call.

"I got an 18."

"Alright. The only magic you can sense from the shield is coming from the green gemstone."

"I would like to investigate the area around the shield" explained Thomas.

"Roll for investigation."

The sound of a rolling d20 was followed by a painfully depressed sigh. "I got a 2."

"Thomas since you keep getting low rolls, I'll let you off with a 17 + modifier just this once" the DM said, his voice drowning in pity.

"Thanks dude! In that case, I got an 18!"

"Next to the shield, lies a stone tablet. It tells of an ancient prophesy about some sort of apocalypse. It says that in order to fight said apocalypse, four heroes from another world will be summoned. They will each carry a weapon of legend. The weapons are a sword, a spear, a bow and a shield. It then goes into short descriptions of each hero. However once it gets to the shield hero, the writing stops."

"I would like to pick up the shield and equip it" I told the DM.

"Alright, Spell Guard Shields require attunement, so make sure to do that."

Right after I attuned the shield, I started to get dizzy. After falling on the floor, I could feel myself leaving my body. The next thing I knew, I was in some weird room. I also felt slightly heavier and a little taller?

My thoughts were cut short when someone loudly exclaimed, "The summoning was a success!"

Alright! Hope you guys enjoyed the chapter, and tell me what you think!
