Chapter 1: A Marvel-ous Mishap
KIIIIIMMMMMM!
That was the last thing that Kim Possible heard when she lost consciousness and floated off to an unknown fate, not knowing what would happen. She remembered being on a mission to stop her arch nemesis, the diabolical Dr. Drakken, from using his latest invention to take over the world. Kim and her partner Ron Stoppable headed off to stop him after locating his base. When they arrived, Ron worked on disabling the machine while Kim fought off Dr. Drakken's sidekick, Shego.
Kim and Shego fought for a while. Shego's glowing green hands kept Kim on her feet as she dodged every energy beam that the villainess threw at her. However, Kim tripped on an electrical wire while dodging and fell.
"You're getting rusty, Kimmy. Don't tell me that you are being held back by worrying about your boyfriend up there. After I beat you, I'm going to finish him off." Shego said with a smirk.
Kim didn't seem troubled by what Shego said.
"Ron can handle himself. If anything, you're the rusty one Shego." Kim pointed up to the ceiling. In confusion, Shego looked up, falling for Kim's trick. While she was distracted, Kim shot her grappling hook at a nearby pipe, securing the hook. She swung at Shego and kicked her in the face, forcing her to recoil back.
Kim couldn't help but chuckle after jumping back to the ground. "Gotcha! I can't believe you fell for that."
"Ugh, that was a cheap shot. But I won't fall for that again!" said Shego, angrily. After getting up, the dark-haired villainess charged towards Kim, hands glowing. The two engaged in a prolonged fist fight. Kim's extensive training in martial arts allowed her to evade all of Shego's attacks and keep up with her enemy blow to blow. The evil Dr. Drakken had spent a good amount of time spouting his evil plan to both Kim and Ron, giving them the opportunity to analyze how to stop him. Kim had knocked him unconscious earlier with a piece of debris.
10 minutes ago...
"Kim Possible! And her sidekick, whom I can never remember the name of. Not that I care." Drakken exclaimed.
Ron felt offended that the evil doctor forgot his name. "My name is Ron! Ron Stoppable! You've already seen me a million times, Drakken. How can you forget who I am?"
"Because you aren't Kim Possible!" retorted the evil doctor.
"Cut to the chase, Drakken. What stupid scheme are you planning this time?" interrupted Kim.
"Well I'm glad you asked!"
*one long explanation later*
Present time.
As she was fighting Kim Possible, Shego thought about how stupid it is every time Drakken revealed his plans to the heroic duo, which always ended in her fighting Kim every time.
What kind of evil genius would spout his plans out loud? I swear… Why do I even bother working for that idiot sometimes?
As the two girls continued their epic battle, Ron was busy at the control panel, figuring out how to disable the machine. If he couldn't figure out how to disable it, there could be catastrophic consequences.
How on Earth does this doohickey even work? Man, Dr. Drakken really outdid himself this time. Most of the time, he just stole other people's work. But a machine to open up a portal to another dimension? It's outrageous!
"In any case, I need to turn this thing off and help Kim beat Shego. That way we can finally go on that date I promised her. Right, Rufus?" said Ron to the little naked mole rat in his pocket. Rufus emerged from the pocket and nodded in agreement.
Before he got distracted from thinking about Kim, Ron shoved his thoughts aside to focus on the task at hand. "More time to think about Kim later, gotta disable this machine first." Unfortunately for Ron, the machine's design was far too complicated for him to understand and he was simply pressing random buttons to see if any one of them turned off the machine.
In the meantime, Kim handily defeated Shego by tricking her to send a beam of green energy at a box of explosives, sending the villainess flying into a wall. The resulting explosion also knocked a beaker of liquid into the multiverse machine, causing the machine to short out and malfunction.
"Well that was a little too easy. Try harder to beat me next time, Shego. That was embarrassing even for you." Kim dusted her hands before turning her attention to Ron at the control panel. She noticed the sparks coming out and a loud beeping sound coming from the machine.
"Something's wrong, Kim!" Ron yelled in a horrified voice.
"Ron! What happened to the machine? Did you find the off switch?" Kim asked, frantically.
"I don't know!" What Ron failed to notice was that the machine was powering up a large beam of energy aimed in Kim's direction, creating a loud noise.
In confusion, Kim turned towards the direction of the noise and saw the beam of energy.
"Ron... What's going on?!" exclaimed Kim, not understanding what was going to happen.
Ron stepped away from the control panel and tried to return to ground level as fast as he could. "I can't turn the machine off! That beam is aimed your way Kim, watch out!"
The machine fired the fully charged beam before Kim could react. It manifested into a portal which sucked our valiant heroine in. Ron watched helplessly as he watched the love of his life disappear into an unknown location and yelled out her name.
KIIIIIMMMMMM!
SILENCE
Kim could feel herself floating through an endless abyss as her body went numb to the effects of the cosmic environment around her. She couldn't struggle. Couldn't resist the pull of wherever the cosmic waves were taking her. She was unconscious but her mind could feel the probe of a mysterious voice calling out to her.
Kim Possible. You have a mission to complete. I cannot reveal much right now but I promise that everything will be clear to you soon.
The Baxter Building. Home to the famous Fantastic 4.
Reed Richards was occupied with a science experiment when his wife Susan Richards burst through the door of his lab.
"What is it, Sue?" asked Reed.
Sue's expression conveyed that she was worried about something. "Reed, darling! Johnny said that a portal just appeared above our roof and he spotted a girl falling out!"
Reed quickly paused his lab experiments and ran out with Sue to go see the new development for himself. Sue was right. He saw a red-headed young girl falling at a fast pace, enough to cause her death if she were to hit the roof of the Baxter Building. Sue's younger brother Johnny Storm and fellow Fantastic 4 member Ben Grimm were watching the falling girl in shock.
Johnny was sweating profusely and looked exhausted. "Reed, you're here! I would have flamed on to catch her but I burned all of my energy in a training session with Ben."
"It's up to you, Stretcho!" said Ben.
"Quick, Reed! She's about to hit the roof!" gasped Sue.
Mr. Fantastic understood what he had to do. He stretched his arms up and caught Kim before she reached the roof.
"Don't worry honey, I got her! Let's get her back into the building and monitor her vitals. The experiments can wait."
Some time later...
Kim Possible felt herself regaining consciousness. She had heard the disembodied voice tell her that she was on a mission, but wasn't sure what to make of it. When she fully awoke, she saw 4 people staring at her and found herself laying down in a bed. Darting her eyes around, she saw that she was in a well decorated room with expensive furniture. Kim took note of a man with brown hair and white sideburns, a woman with shoulder length blonde hair with her arms wrapped around him, a young man who looked similar to the woman, and a large man with rock-like skin. All of them wore blue jumpsuits with a "4" logo in the middle with black gloves and boots.
"She's awake, honey!" exclaimed Sue.
"Good catch, Stretch. You rescued the poor kid from fallin' to her death." Ben added, gruffly.
Kim wasn't sure who was talking to her and where she was. "W-Where am I? And who are all of you?" she said groggily.
Reed spoke on behalf of his team. "My name is Reed Richards. I am also known as Mr. Fantastic." He gestured at Sue. "This is my lovely wife, Susan Storm Richards. She is the Invisible Woman."
"You can call me Sue." Sue smiled warmly at Kim.
"My name is Johnny Storm, sweetheart. You may know me as the Human Torch. But you can just call me Johnny." Johnny winked as he introduced himself.
Sue was not amused with her brother's winking and shook her head. "Johnny Storm, cut that out! This young lady was close to death and you're already flirting with her?"
Johnny grinned at his sister. "Sorry sis, just trying to make the lil lady comfortable." Kim slightly raised her eyebrows at the comment.
"The name's Ben Grimm. Also known as the Thing. Whichever ya prefer." said Ben.
Kim had never heard of any of these people before. To her, they sound like superhero names. She also couldn't help but be curious about Ben's appearance. "Sorry if I offend you Mr. Grimm, but why do you look like that?"
"Let's face it, kiddo. I look like a monster. An' there's only one reason for that." Ben looked solemn as he started to explain how he became the Thing. Until Reed interjected.
"Ben's appearance was caused by exposure to cosmic radiation. All four of us were exposed to cosmic rays during a scientific expedition to space. Our cellular structures mutated and granted us incredible powers."
"An' that's why I look this ugly." Ben added. "Yer probably thinking the same thing huh, kiddo?"
Kim shook her head. "Not at all, Mr. Grimm." In her thoughts however...
I don't want to be rude but Mr. Grimm certainly doesn't win in the looks department. No amount of makeup can fix that ugly mug. Who knew that radiation from outer space can give you superpowers...
Reed cleared his throat. "Back to your other question. As for where you are, you are currently inside the Baxter Building, our base of operations located in New York City. We are the Fantastic Four."
"Fantastic Four? That is such a cool name." Kim said, laughing a bit.
"We answered yer questions, now whut about ya, kid? Where are ya from? And what's ya name?" asked Ben.
"My name is Kim Possible; I am from Middleton, Colorado." Kim answered.
Reed's eyes lit up when he heard that name. "Middleton?" He glanced at Sue, who also shared his expression of shock.
That's when Kim realized that something didn't seem right. However, she attempted to describe the town to the Fantastic 4. "Middleton is just like any other small town, I guess. There's a food chain named Bueno Nacho, I graduated from Middleton High School, and there's a Space Center where my dad works at."
As Kim spoke, Reed recalled an encounter that he and Sue had with Uatu, a being from an immortal race called the Watchers who observes all events occurring in the cosmos without interfering.
Reed and Sue were on their way to pick up their children Franklin and Valeria from the apartment of Alicia Masters, Ben's girlfriend. As they got in the Fantasti-Car, Uatu suddenly appeared in front of them, warning them with a premonition of dimensions clashing and destruction of the multiverse. When the two Fantastic 4 members pressed him for more details, all he could say was to look out for a young redheaded girl hailing from the town of Middleton. She would be the clue that would answer all of their questions.
"Tell us more about yourself, Kim. We may as well get to know each other while you are recovering from your ordeal." said Sue as she placed her hand on Kim's forehead to check her temperature. "Just checking to see if you have a fever, you were unconscious for a while."
"Thanks Mrs. Richards. I think I am okay though." Kim shrugged. Kim began to tell the Fantastic 4 about her adventures as a world renowned spy who solved many mysteries and defeated a lot of villains. As she started to talk about her recent mission, Kim began to cry a little.
"I don't blame ya for tearing up a bit, kiddo. You fell out of the sky from a portal. Good thing Stretch here was able to grab yer before yer fell face first into the concrete." Ben placed his hand on Kim's right shoulder to try and console her.
To confirm whether or not Kim was the redheaded girl from Uatu's warning, Reed pressed her about the portal. "Ms. Possible, can you tell us more about the portal that brought you here?"
"Well, you see Mr. Richards… My partner Ron and I were in the middle of a mission to stop an evil mad scientist named Dr. Drakken from activating his latest invention. His aim was to recruit a powerful supervillain from another dimension to help him conquer our world."
Reed and Sue looked at each other with concern. "Did you just say another dimension?" they asked simultaneously.
"Yes. My friend Wade had warned us that the machine was emitting suspicious radiation into the surrounding area, causing distortions in the space-time continuum. I didn't really understand what he meant but all I know was that the radiation could have harmed millions of people. During my battle with Drakken's partner Shego, something caused the device to malfunction. The last thing I remembered was Ron yelling my name before everything blacked out. And now I'm here inside the Baxter Building." Recalling the sequence of events caused further tears to fall from Kim's eyes. She rarely cries about anything, she is usually positive and stoic in the face of any unknown situation or danger. Kim is only human after all, as she misses the one man who has her heart, Ron.
"I'm sorry… I usually don't cry like this." Kim wiped the tears from her eyes.
Sue also noticed the tears coming out of Kim and joined Ben in consoling her. Johnny just looked solemnly at the young teen as he thought back to his first meeting with Crystal of the Inhuman Royal Family.
"If you'll excuse me a moment fellas, I need to go check on some data in the lab real quick to confirm something." Reed left the room for about a few minutes before returning.
"There's no denying it." said Reed. "Sue and I have been anticipating your arrival, Ms. Possible. The Watcher warned us that a redhead girl would appear in our world. Looks like his vision came true because you are here. The mainframe computer is also telling me that the portal which you came out is not the only one. Drakken's machine must have gone into overdrive and created more. That mad man may have endangered the very fiber of the multiverse's integrity."
"W-what do you mean by that Mr. Richards?" Kim asked, shocked by what she heard. And who is the Watcher? Was he the voice I heard while I was unconscious?
Reed's facial expression turned grim. "In simple terms, Drakken may have just opened the possibility of not only both of our universes but countless others being destroyed. It's all clear what the Watcher had told us now. Opening unauthorized portals into the multiverse created the risk of multiple dimensions merging. The results might be catastrophic. It is like two stars colliding or a black hole forming. Nothing will survive."
Kim and the other Fantastic Four members were stunned at the revelation. Sue couldn't help but nod to confirm that she had heard the same warning from the Watcher. Ben was especially shocked.
"Reed, did I just hear ya say that the world might be destroyed? This is worse than dealin' with those Yancy Street punks! It's Galactus all over again!" Ben's anger and concern reached the point where he smashed his hand into the wall, shaking the entire building.
"Hey Bashful Benjy, cool it!" Johnny tried to stop Ben from punching the wall again, but he was shoved to the ground.
"Get out of da way, Torch! I ain't in the mood to cool it!" Ben proceeded to stomp his feet on the floor, creating another shockwave.
Reed pleaded with his old friend to stop his rampage. "Ben, please! You're going to injure the other tenants in the building at this rate!" Ben didn't listen and proceeded to land a clean punch on Reed, sending him flying.
"Ben, no! We will figure out everything, it's not the end of the world!" pleaded Sue, as she put a forcefield around her husband to prevent him from being hurt, at the same time, turning her attention to her injured brother at the same time. "Johnny! Are you hurt?"
Johnny picked himself off the floor and rubbed the back of his head. "Yeah… I'm okay sis. Bashful Benjy didn't shove me that hard."
This is getting out of hand fast, I need to stop Mr. Grimm before anyone else gets hurt. Without realizing it, Kim Possible yelled, "That's enough!" and emitted a powerful vibration from her voice that knocked Ben to the floor and rattled the Baxter Building one last time.
The Fantastic Four were shocked at the power of Kim's voice. Kim herself gasped and placed her hands over her mouth when she realized what she had done. Ben reluctantly agreed to stop his outburst. "Fine. But only because ya asked nicely, kid. Your voice sure packs a wallop, I got clobbered hard." Ben looked at Reed who was still in Sue's forcefield and said, "Sorry bout that old buddy. Lost my temper there."
Reed did not seem mad. Sue gently let her husband out of her force field. "Don't fret my old friend, I feel the same way for Sue and baby Franklin. I will find a solution to this. Mark my words!"
Ben turned his attention to Johnny. "Sorry for hurtin you too, Torchie."
Johnny didn't hold any grudges against Ben since he is used to his outbursts. "Hey, don't worry about it big guy. I know how you feel."
Sue embraced her husband and kissed him. "Thank goodness you weren't hurt, dear."
Reed smiled. "Thanks to your force field, Sue."
Kim took her hands off her mouth and apologized for the strong vibrational force that came out of her. "I had no idea where that came from, was anyone hurt?"
"Not at all, Kim. We're just fine." replied Johnny. "Your seismic screams are really strong. It reminds me of Black Bolt's, although not as powerful. Probably more like Klaw and the Shocker."
"Are they all villains in this dimension, Mr. Storm?" asked Kim with a curious expression.
Johnny nodded. Then a thought came to his mind and he shared it with Kim. "Kim, you said your partner Ron was with you when you fought Drakken and Shego? I am curious, is he your boyfriend too?"
Kim also nodded. "Yup. We started dating recently. He has been my best friend ever since we were kids. We have been through a lot together. He's not just my partner. He's the love of my life."
Sue went to sit by Kim's side and gave her a hug, smiling warmly at the red-headed teenager. "I feel the same way about Reed, Kim." Kim smiled back. Johnny simply nodded his head, seeing how easily his sister was bonding with the redheaded teen.
"I will go back to the lab to learn more about the temporal anomalies created by Drakken's machine and what his plans are. I might have to contact SHIELD to see if they can get the Avengers, X-Men, and other super groups to pool our resources together. This is a serious threat that we cannot ignore." said Reed.
"Please let me know if I can help in any way, Mr. Richards. Drakken is my responsibility, and I will do whatever it takes to stop him." Kim said, with resolve.
"Thank you Ms. Possible." Reed proceeded to head back into his lab, the door shutting behind him.
Sue watched her husband leave before saying, "I think I will pay Alicia a visit and see how Franklin and Valeria are doing. I want to make sure that our kids are safe. Get some rest, Kim. I'll be back soon." She proceeded to also walk out and go to Alicia's apartment.
"Hey big guy, go with Sue see how Alicia is doing." said Johnny. "I gotta go get ready for a date tonight." The Torch then shouted, "FLAME ON!" and flew out of the window in a blaze. Ben quickly put on a jacket and pants before he jumped out the window and landed close behind Sue, who had just walked out the front door. "Hold up Suzie! I'll go with ya!"
Kim was left alone in the bedroom with nothing but her thoughts.
I hope that I can help the Fantastic Four solve this problem and stop our dimensions from being destroyed. And I can only hope that Ron is okay. It's not the end of the world, Ron. I will come back to you soon.
MEANWHILE IN THE KIM POSSIBLE UNIVERSE
"Wade, is there anything you can do to bring Kim back?!" Ron was hysterical and in tears as he frantically tried to think of a way to bring his girlfriend back. The dark-skinned boy on the other end of the communicator tried to stay positive.
"Ron, I'm trying to figure that out. I am worried about Kim too, but I think she will be able to handle herself. Don't worry, we will find her." Wade said as typed on his computer, trying to triangulate Kim's position.
Kim… I-I'm sorry for not saving you in time. It's my fault that you were sucked into that dimensional portal. I'll never forgive myself... Ron thought to himself as he waited for Wade to finish his calculations. What he didn't notice in his grief, was Shego slowly crawling her way to the unconscious Dr. Drakken. She picked him up and carried him up to the multiverse device's control panel. With the push of a button, another portal activated and pulled the two villains in. Ron turned too late to notice their escape.
"NO! Shego and Dr. Drakken got away!" yelled Ron in frustration.
"From the looks of it, they escaped through a dimensional portal like the one that took Kim." said Wade.
"I need to go after them and rescue Kim! I hope we can communicate across dimensions, Wade!" Ron wiped his tears and turned off the communicator as he made his way back up to the control panel to activate the machine once again. But when he tried to push the activation button, the machine self-destructed and forced Ron to dive for cover. Shrapnel flew in all directions, triggering a set of traps in Drakken's secret base.
The communicator beeped again. Ron dusted the debris off himself before picking it up.
"Ron, thank goodness you didn't die from that blast! That last usage by Shego and Drakken must have caused the machine to overload and explode after the damage it sustained earlier."
Ron's eyes welled up with tears as he faced the prospect that he could never bring Kim back. "Is.. Is there no way to bring Kim back? Did we lose… Did I lose her forever? What will her parents say about this? They are going to kill me for not protecting their daughter."
"Nothing is impossible, Ron. Quickly, go and check out that cabinet over there, the undamaged one. I found that they contain a set of blueprints and notes on the device that Drakken built. Bring it to me and I can analyze them. Perhaps we can find a way to rebuild the device and get Kim back. You don't have much time, the base will self-destruct in 2 minutes." said Wade.
Ron immediately ran over to the cabinet and dug out a set of blueprints and notes pertaining to the multiverse device. After taking them, he fished out his grappling hook and fired it at the ceiling, pulling himself up to a helicopter in waiting. Just as he reached the helicopter and climbed on board, Drakken's base exploded into smithereens. The helicopter managed to fly away in time.
Ron stared back at the wreckage as his thoughts turned to Kim. Rufus came out of Ron's pocket and consoled his friend.
Just wait Kim, Wade and I will figure out where you are. I'll come after you. You saved my life so many times, so it's time I repay the favor. Stay safe Kim, wherever you are. Ron's gonna be the hero for once.
