"I'm sorry did you guys say that you're going to be playing baseball?" Nagisa asked not sure at what he heard
"Yeah and?" Yada asked as she and Kurahashi were glaring at the geeky blunette
"I know for a fact that you would rather be poolside sipping a fruity drink wearing your latest swimsuit while relaxing, and I know for a fact that Hinano would rather be inside with the A/C cranked up on high playing the latest games, watching the latest anime and reading comics. So why suddenly join the summer baseball team?" Nagisa said
"We were asked to join at the last minute" Yada said
"Why?" Nagisa asked as Sugino showed up
"Because they were down a few members and I thought Yada and Kurahashi might do well" Sugino stated
"This is going to be interesting" Nagisa said
"Besides we'll have the whole summer to do other stuff" Kurahashi winked
"Yeah, alright; we'll come along to the games right?" Nagisa asked
"Sure, but I'm playing as well" Sugino said placing his hands behind his head.
"And we're only doing one game today as well" Yada said
"Oh well that's going to be fun" Nagisa said
"Yeah, but only after the guys summer tourney" Yada said
"So you're going to come along aren't you?" Kurhashi asked smiling
"May as well, who are you guys playing?" Nagisa asked
"We're not sure yet" Yada said
"Hopefully it won't be some pro team" Sugino said
"It's a pro team I think" Sugino said
"You think?" Nagisa asked
"Well, I think they're a school team" Sugino said rubbing the back of his head
"Well, we'll beat them" the captain of the Kunugigaoka High girl's baseball team said "Especially with Yada and Kurahashi subbing in for us"
"Great" the two boys said
"You two don't sound so excited" the captain said
"No kidding" the two said
"Hey have some confidence in us" she said
"Sure" Nagisa said
"There we go, anyway better go, we're on in five" she said
"This is going to be interesting" Sugino said
"You said it not me" Nagisa said
It was eventually time for the girls to play
"Looks like they're going first" Sugino said as the other team took the field since they lost the coin toss. The opposing team's captain was the catcher, the game kicked off with the home team taking the field and Kurahashi up to bat first, Nagisa flinched while covering his eyes "Why are you looking away?"
"I have a bad feeling okay?" Nagisa asked looking up briefly as Kurahashi missed the ball "See, Hina could have easily hit that"
"It's her first game, give her a break okay?" Sugino asked
"Wait, how come she is the first batter" Nagisa said
"Luck of the draw?" Sugino asked before Kurahashi delivered a hot that enabled her to get to first base with a slide
"YES!" Nagisa cried
"Alright" Sugino said
"Let's hope this keeps up" Nagisa said
"WHERE ARE YOU LOOKING!" Sugino shouted
"Chill dude" Nagisa said as Yada was given a strike when she didn't even swing
"It was a bias call, you just know he's on their side" Sugino said
"It's just her first ball, besides they've got three on bases and two home" Nagisa said
"Yeah, it was a good thing Kurahashi was able to sneak to second before running to third" Sugino said
"Yep, proud of her" Nagisa smiled as he took a bit of the hot dog he ordered as Yada took her second swing which headed to the short stop, but she still ran and made it comfortably to first base
"Way to go honey" Sugino cheered as he sat back down smiling
"They're not there yet, one more out and then they change side, which will be a while since we've only got one out"
"Don't jinx us will you?" Sugino asked as the next batter was struck out and the runner on third was caught out "See what you did now?" he complained
"Hey not my fault okay" Nagisa said as the teams switched sides, Kurahashi taking second base while Yada went to short stop "let's hope they do better this time" Nagisa said
"I hope so" Sugino said slightly worried about what was going to happen.
"CATCH IT!" Sugino called out as Yada jumped into the air making Nagisa look stunned
"Chill dude" Nagisa tried to calm his friend down as Yada caught the ball and threw it third base where the runner there was caught out
"YES!" Sugino cried out in joy "Just another out and we're back in the batting order" Sugino smiled
"Too bad that their opponents are semi-pro" Nagisa said
"What?" Sugino flatly asked "Wait...OH crap" he panicked
"what's wrong?" Nagisa replied
"I know what team that is now, Shin Koshigaya High School!" Sugino stated
"And that's bad why?" Nagisa said
"They may be a newer club but they managed to get to the finals of one of the summer tournaments" Sugino informed him
"Oh" Nagisa simply said before he sighed
"They're doomed" the pair thought out loud bowing their head.
"At least they tried right?" a calm voice asked making the two jump seeing their classmate Rinka Hayami next to them chowing down on a hot dog "What?"
"I didn't think you went for these kind of things" Sugino nervously said
"I much prefer Softball" Hayami stated
"Seriously?" the two asked
"what makes you say that" Hayami replied
"It just seem that you're more into GOOD CATCH HONEY!" Nagisa cried as Kurahashi caught a ball straight off of the bat getting that batter out.
"Shooting" Sugino stated
"I do that too" Hayami said
"Seriously" the two said before they saw Yada had reached the ball throwing it to third base where it was caught too late to get the runner out
"Yes, is there something wrong with that?" Hayami asked
"No" the two boys said unnerved
"Okay" Hayami said before she caught a ball heading for Sugino's face "You're welcome" she said throwing it back to teh game
"She's good" they say before turning their attention back to the game.
"Just one more out and then we switch" Yada said as she was nearing her limit, she looked over to see Kurahashi was barely standing. "Hey you okay?"
"Yeah, I am, just one more right?" Kurahashi said as she tried to stand up
"I don't think so Hinano. Head to the bench and sub out with someone" Yada said
"But the game?" Kurahashi asked
"You've done enough and no one will be upset at you okay?" Yada said "So go and get a sub in for you alright"
"Okay" she said as she was helped off the ground as the announcer commented on what had happened making the crowd clap. Nagisa racing down to the bench here he hugged hsi girlfriend making her smile
"So who we got?" Yada asked
"Don't worry we've got a good sub" the captain said
"Who?" Yada asked as she and Kurahashi looked confused
"You'll see, now go get that last out before we're up to bat again okay?" the captain
"You got it" Yada smiled before running out onto the field
"I didn't make it" Kurahashi said sighing as she laid on the bench, her head on Nagisa's lap
"Well you made it to the second to last innings which is pretty awesome" Nagisa smiled
"Thank you" Kurahasi said smiled as she felt Nagsia place a cool towel on her forehead
"You tend to get overheated rather quickly if I remember" Nagisa laughed
"Yeah, just a touch" Kurahashi chuckled as the crack of the wooden bat hitting the pitch rumbled in the air as shouts of catching it followed
"This could be it" Nagisa said as he looked out and saw the other girls scrambling
"I GOT IT" Yada shouted before she threw the ball home
"OUT!" the umpire called as the catcher had the ball in her glove before the last runner crossed the home base making the Kunugigaoka team cheer out loud
"Let's do this!" the captain shouted as the teams quickly changed sides causing Nagisa to head back to his seat in the stands.
"How is she?" Sugino asked as Nagisa sat down in his seat
"Not bad" Nagisa said, "I placed a towel on her head since she felt a bit hot" Nagisa said
"Good call" Sugino said "Did you see where Hayami went?" he asked making Nagisa look around confused
"No I didn't" Nagisa replied looking around, finally spotting her down on the field
"She's the replacement!" Sugino said
"I did not see that one coming" Nagisa said
"Well she does play Softball, and she's got a good eye on her" Sugino said
"But will it be enough?" Nagisa asked as Yada got skidded into first base
"WAY TO GO!" Sugino cheered as the next batter walked up to base and got struck out twice before running after the third pitch making it to first while Yada was now of second base.
"Okay he comes Hayami" Nagisa said as she walked up to the mound
'I would prefer if this was softball, but the girls need me especially since Kurahashi is down, poor thing's not very good with the summer heat' Hayami said as she looked at the pitcher who got ready to pitch. Hayami started to breath to help her focus, looking up she studied everything to make sure she would succeed. The Pitcher started to throw the ball and just after the ball was in the air Hayami started to swing her bat, making the air crack as the ball hit the sweet spot on her bat, causing it to fly through the air "Home run" she said dropping her bat and running around the diamond with the first two hitters ran across the home plate with Hayami following close behind making the crowd roar.
Soon the game was over with the Kunungigaoka girls having won the match making them run onto the field cheering. Sugino and Nagisa clapped as their girlfriends blew kisses to them while laughing. The Kunugiagaoka team's captain walked over to the captain of the opposing team and shook her hand before trading baseball caps.
"Good game" they said before walking over to their respective teams.
"I can't believe you won" Kurahashi said
"We won, you were in most of the game" Yada said
"But I wasn't a part of the end, you had to get Hayami in" Kurahashi said
"You still played most of the game, so relax and enjoy the victory" the captain said ruffling Kurahashi's hair as photos were taken
"I'm sleepy" Kurahashi said as she and Nagisa walked hand in hand
"You did well, so you deserve a good rest" Nagsia smiled as he stopped in front of her, she sighed getting on his back
"Sorry I haven't showered yet" Kurahashi blushed
"No worries" Nagisa said he walked along, stopping for a moment
"What is it?" Kurahashi asked
"I never thought those two would be a couple" Nagisa said as the pair saw Hayami with Justice Kimura
"Huh, we have some strange couples in our class don't we?" Kurahashi said resting on Nagisa's shoulder
"No kidding, come on I'll take you home" Nagisa said
"Okay" Kurahashi said as she closed her eyes and enjoyed the ride home.
G'day Guys Grizz here So I'm back in the Geeky Love universe with a project I was going to post at least two months ago while Australia was actually having its summer, so sorry about that. Anyway this is juts going to be the first in a five chapter miniseries whcih will include the one year anniversary of the main couple as well as a few other activities but for the life of me, why oh why did I have to pick Baseball since the summer sports in Australia are cricket and tennis, none of which is my main sport, that would be Aussie Rules. Anyway the opposition were the main characters from the baseball anime Tamayomi which is good
