For a while Kya and Mako stood on the balcony like that, when Mako suddenly moved and Kya had to lift her head from his shoulder. "Come", Mako said and took Kya's Hand. "Where are we going?" Kya asked irritated as Mako pulled her down the stairs. "Mako", Kya said, but Mako didn't react and pulled her further through the crowd until they reached the dance floor. He let go of Kya's Hand and stood in front of her. "Let us dance", he said and smiled at her. "But you can't dance", Kya laughed. "Doesn't matter", Mako said with a shrug and reached out his hand forwards her. "Well?" Kya shook her head and took Mako's Hand so he could lead her to the dance floor. For a while they stood lost on the dance floor while Mako looked at the other dancing couples. Finally he just wrapped his arms around Kya's waist so she had to put her arms around his neck. Then the two just rocked from left to right. "You call that dancing?" Kya asked after a while. "You said, that I can't dance", Mako reminded her. Kya smiled at him and laid her head against his chest. Mako blushed lightly and wrapped his arms tighter around Kya.
Kya was packing her things, together with the others she and Korra would go back to republic city today. "Hy Kya", it came from the door. "Hy Korra I'm almost done", Kya said without turning at her sister. "You better hurry or Tenzin will give us a lecture about punctuality and duties again", Korra said laughing. Kya rolled her eyes and threw the last clothes in the travel bag and closed it. "Tell me what's going on between you and Mako?" asked Korra and laid against the doorframe. Now Kya looked for the first time at her sister who was looking at her with raised eyebrows. "We're friends", Kya said and blushed slightly. Korra laughed bitterly. "Oh please I saw you dancing yesterday and that's not how friends dance." Kya's blush deepened and she buried her face in her hands. Korra pushed herself from the doorframe, went to her sister and pulled her hands from her face. "You like him don't you?" she asked. Kya looked into Korra's blue eyes and sighed. "I don't know. Would it bother you if it was like this?" Kya asked. "Kya you're my sister I want you to be happy and if Mako makes you happy than it's this way. So no it wouldn't bother me", Korra said and smiled at her twin sister. "Thanks Korra", Kya said and hugged her sister. "Enough of this we should go." With this words Korra took Kya's travel bag threw it over her shoulder and moved ahead of her through the residence.
Mako was glad that he could finally go back to republic city he didn't like the cold here. Together with Bolin he went through the residence to the meeting point with Tenzin and the girls. In front of the parlor he was stopped by Tonraq. "Mako I'd like to have a word with you", he said and waved him to him. Bolin looked confused at his brother who shrugged, pushed his bag into Bolin's hands and followed Tonraq into the parlor. "Take a seat", Mako was requested from Tonraq who closed the door behind them. Mako did as he was told to and sat on the sofa while Tonraq took a seat across for him in an armchair. "I wanted to thank you again Mako, that you helped me to safe my daughter from the snow storm", Tonraq said. "That was naturally everyone would have done that", Mako waved it off. Tonraq shook his head and said: "I don't believe so. Whatever I wanted to ask you something and that would be how do you feel about Kya?" Tonraq had lain back in his armchair and looked closely at the young firebender in front of him. The later frowned. "What do you mean? We're friends." Tonraq didn't say anything and just raised an eyebrow. Mako sighed. "Alright Tonraq listen I like her." "Do you love her?" Tonraq asked without further ado. Mako seemed a little overwhelmed with the question. "I surely feel something for her but I don't know if it's love", he said after a while. "I see", Tonraq said and bent forward. "Listen Mako I can stand you pretty good and it would hurt me to hurt you that's why I'm giving you an advice now. Don't play with Kya's feelings and don't break her heart do you understand?" "Of course but I would never think of something like that", Mako answered with a tight voice. "Very nice", Tonraq said and got up. Mako also stood up and both man left the parlor.
Kya and Korra meanwhile stood outside the residence where Tenzin was waiting with Oogie. Bolin just joined them. "Where's Mako?" Kya asked as she saw that Bolin was carrying two bags and looked for the firebender. "He was stopped", said Bolin and threw the bags on Oogie's back. "If he's not here in five minutes we'll leave without him", Tenzin said sternly. "You can't do that Tenzin", Kya cried. "What can't he do?" she suddenly heart a voice behind them. Kya and the others turned around and saw Mako who came forwards them with Tonraq and Senna. "Mako", whispered Kya and he stopped in front of her and smiled at her. Tonraq cleared his throat so that Kya turned away from Mako. "Father, Mama what do you want here?" Kya asked her parents. "We wanted to say goodbye to you and your sister", Senna said and went to Kya to hug her. Kya returned the hug. "Visit us again soon", Senna asked when she let go of her younger daughter. Kya nodded, hugged her father und then went to Oogie where Tenzin was waiting impatiently. Korra also told her parents goodbye. "Take care of your sister", Tonraq asked her. Korra seemed confused but nodded. While the girls and Tenzin already got comfortable on Oogie Bolin took Mako aside. "What did Tonraq want from you?" he asked his brother. "Just gave me the obligatory you hurt my daughter I'm going to hurt you speech", Mako said and also climbed on the bison. Bolin seemed irritated but climbed up behind his brother.
Somewhen on the flight Kya had fallen asleep, her head was lying on Korra's shoulder. Mako watched her sleeping from the opposite direction on his face a dreamy smile. "Mako", Korra said quietly not to wake her sister. Mako looked up at Korra. "Why don't you just ask her out on a date?" Korra asked straight away. Mako starred at her unbelievable she must have this way from her father. Mako sighed and looked back at the sleeping figure of Kya. "Do you really think she would go out with me? She's the avatar and the princess of the fire nation what could a simple commissioner like me offer her." Korra was surprised, after all he hadn't hesitated with her, well their relationship hadn't worked but they had been kids then. "Mako listen", Korra said and smiled encouraging when he looked at her. "First Kya doesn't care about those titles and second I know from reliable sources that she likes you." "And what sources would that be?" Mako asked. Korra laughed when she said: "Well Kya of course she told me." "Korra what's wrong?" asked Kya drowsy and raised her head from her shoulder. "Nothing just go back to sleep." "Forget it we're almost there!" Tenzin called from Oogie's head.
"Bo!" Opal cried as soon as the travelers landed and jumped at her boyfriend. "Opal I missed you so much", the earthbender said twirled his girlfriend around and kissed her deeply afterwards. Mako watched this with a smile he was glad that his brother was happy. He turned around and looked at Kya who was petting Oogies' head. Maybe he should really try it or he would never know where this could lead. "Go", Korra said suddenly beside him, he hadn't realized that she had stepped beside him. "Korra." "Go before you think it over", Korra requested. Mako looked back to Kya took a deep breath and went forward her. At this moment Kya turned away and wanted to leave the courtyard. Mako quickened his pace lightly. "Kya", he called for her and Kya stopped in front auf the passage and turned to Mako. "Yeah", she said and looked up at Mako who stopped in front of her. "I ah uh", Mako stammered. "Everything alright?" asked Kya and tilted her head. "Yeah I was just wondering if you would go out with me tonight?" Mako finally asked. "Oh", Kya said and she smiled at Mako. "I'd like that." Mako looked at her surprised. "Great I'll pick you up at the pier at eight o clock", he said and turned away. With a big grin he went to Bolin. "Bo let's go home", Mako said still grinning. Bolin was confused he hadn't seen his brother like this in a long time and he hopped that it meant something good.
