Best bird
King Sombra sat on his throne. It wasn't the normal one like most imagine him on. But the throne for his own kingdom. And it was a normal day. Go threw papers. Make orders. Go threw more papers. Speak with guests. Either have a nap or go have a break from work and talk with his wife, Hope.
Normally it's the same pattern every day. But there were some days were that flow was either interrupted or completely broken by one particular creature.
Opal. Sombra's pet white peacock. And this bird doesn't have the most royal of personalities.
Today, Sombra was having a quick nap. He didn't sleep at all last night and he needed the rest. But he didn't get this nap.
SKREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH
"what now?" the groggy voice of Sombra responded to his needy bird. He turned his head to be stared straight in the eyes by the peacock's gold ones.
"I fed you fifteen minuets ago. What do you want?"
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
"fine"
Sombra pulled himself of his chair. His shoes making satisfying clops on the stone floor. You could also slightly her the tip taps of opals claws hitting the ground as he hops along.
The pair made it to the smaller kitchen, more for making tea and coffee really. But the cupboards didn't have a…normal selection in them. Two cupboards were packed full of different flavour teas in. which are explained perfectly by Hope as "Sombra, you have a problem. Admit it". Then it gets stranger as another cupboard is full of a mixture of bagged dead small reptiles and insects. then the cupboard next to that there were bags of grain, rice, and nuts. Then the fridge had a bunch of fruit in.
Currently Opal had fluttered up and was perched on the small handle on one of the cupboards. Then he fell off. Like the majestic bird he is.
"do you want some crickets? I know you like crickets. Have some crickets" Sombra pulled out the bag of dead crickets from the cupboard Opal had just fell off. He wasn't allowed to keep live food for Opal, so instead he just made them hop around with magic. Not like Opal could tell the difference.
One by one, Opal hopped around on the counters. Chasing the dead bugs. With the way he ate them, you would think sombra never fed him. But even then this bird would just go find someone else to scream at.
"happy now?"
QAAAAW coo
"I'll take that as a yes" Sombra smiled as the white peacock settled on his head. Opals body puffed up into a ball as his tail rested over his owner's neck. Effectively giving him a gold spotted white mane.
The next day it was the weekend. So Sombra and Hope were having a well-deserved lie in. They were both half awake. They were cuddling. But they pretended to be asleep. This way if anyone wanted them, and they were one of the weird ones who would open the door instead of knocking again, they would think they were asleep and leave them alone.
They were both woken up when a flash of gold light appeared, and a scroll landed on their faces.
They both groaned as they lifted their heads to look at the scroll that so rudely awakened them. Hope, who was able to wake up faster than Sombra, unravelled it with her magic.
"its opal out?" She asked after a yawn. Sombra looked over to the elaborate tree like perch in the corner of the room. There was no peacock on it this morning.
"yeah why?"
"he's flirting with Philomena again" Hope turned the scroll towards Sombra. On it was a picture of opal sitting on a stool, his tail all fanned out with a prideful look on his face. On the floor was a rather impressed Philomena.
"I swear he's flirtier than me sometimes" Sombra said in a mixture of a yawn and laugh. Hope set the scroll down on the bedside table as she was pulled back into a cuddle by her husband.
The next time they would be "woken up" is probably when opal returns and smashes into the window, which he can't see.
