"Do you want to go somewhere this weekend?" Juniper asked out of nowhere, Tuesday morning as they puttered around their cozy shared apartment, preparing for the day ahead of them.

"Oh, yeah, sure. There's that new Kentucky Kaiju movie, well I think it's a remaster rerelease of one of the originals but Fred says it's practically new, do you want to go see that?" Megan suggested, plating the pancakes she was making for the two of them.

"No, I was thinking about taking a weekend trip. We could get a cabin somewhere, just the two of us." Juniper smiled flirtily and Megan nodded instantly. She loved this domestic city life with her girlfriend, but getting out of San Fransokyo, away from the noise of trains and traffic and easily excitable neighbors sounded delightful.

"Sounds good, babe," Megan said, setting down their breakfast and pulling Juniper in for a kiss. Juniper beamed into the kiss and for that moment, everything was perfect.

Everything was going according to plan, Megan had no idea that Juniper had planned this weekend getaway so she could create the perfect backdrop for her proposal. She'd been trying to figure out the best way to propose since the day they'd moved in together, and finally, she'd decided that there was nothing that better represented their relationship than something private and cozy, a retreat into a world that was just the two of them.

Megan was suspicious almost right away. At first, she'd simply been enamored by the promise of privacy but a few hours later it clicked into place that June was scheming. They'd been watching their friends get engaged left and right. Hiro had proposed with a fairytale tribute in the park where he and Karmi had had their first date. GoGo had proposed to Honey Lemon at the Lenore Shimamoto museum. Megan and Juniper had been building up to their own magical proposal for a while now. It seemed like Juniper was finally putting her plan in motion.

After about an hour of gushing to herself about the possibility of marrying the love of her life, Megan decided she absolutely couldn't be outdone. They'd always been a bit competitive with their secrets and surprises and this was no different.

The biggest problem was that Megan didn't have a ring. Upon tearing through their apartment (looking for her "camera") Megan wasn't able to find an engagement ring. She wasn't surprised that Juniper had hidden the ring extra carefully. That was fine. It would be a fun surprise. Megan would simply make sure she had some fun surprises of her own in the would need a bit of help, though...

"Hi, mama," Megan said when Barb opened the door to her comfortable little apartment.

"Megan, honey, come in! What brings you here, sweetheart?" Barb had been quick to make Megan part of the Reynolds family, faster than Diego had accepted Juniper, at least. Of course, they were a tight-knit family now, but things had been awkward at first.

"I want to marry your daughter," Megan said boldly, coming right out and saying it.

"Oh! I knew this day was coming, Megan I'm so happy for you both."

"I need your help, mama. I'm pretty sure June is going to propose to me this weekend. I want to get her a ring as well but I'm not sure where to start. And well… I know dad isn't going to be able to help me pick out jewelry."

"Of course I'll help you," Barb said, beaming at Megan, "I'm glad you came to me."

"Thank you so much," Megan said, letting out a relieved sigh and wrapping her arms around Barb, "I only have a few days to get things in order, Juniper has the advantage this time because she's clearly been planning longer. I don't want to upstage her but I… I want to show her that I love her just as much as she loves me. So I want to get her a ring."

"I think it's a good idea," Barb said, "and I think Juniper is going to love it, dear."

Megan beamed and the pair set to work.

Megan was better at keeping secrets than Juniper but June had clearly gotten pretty good. She didn't let anything slip as they prepared for their weekend away, although Megan did notice her soon-to-be fiance packing nicer clothes than she usually would bring for a weekend in the woods.

"Got anything special planned?" Megan asked, teasing a little, trying not to let Juniper know that she knew but unable to resist making June a little flustered.

"Being with you is always special," Juniper said with a blush. She couldn't tell Megan about the candlelight dinner planned for tomorrow night, or the ring weighing heavy in her pocket. This all had to be perfect.

Megan was going to let it go perfectly. She wasn't going to show Juniper the ring until Juniper had done everything she wanted to do for the proposal. There was no need to ruin the moment.

What Megan didn't anticipate was how she would feel in the moment. The trip had been great so far but as they drew near to the final reckoning Megan felt butterflies. This was terrifying. And exhilarating. And she wasn't even the one proposing!

Juniper felt antsy as well. She'd been planning this for so long, she was worried she would forget the words she had rehearsed or stumble on the proposal. She had checked to make sure she had the ring a hundred times today. This would've been so much easier to say through interpretive dance.

"Is it alright if I propose a toast?" Juniper asked, trembling a little as she poured them each a glass of champagne.

"You can propose," Megan said, adding quickly, "You can propose a toast, I mean."

Juniper and Megan both looked nervous.

"I uh, I want to propose a toast to our relationship. We've been together for a long time and it's been so wonderful. I love you so much, Megan. I love everything about you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you so…" Juniper pulled away from the table, kneeled, and presented the ring, "Megan Cruz, will you marry me?"

Megan, who had been expecting this for days now, burst into tears as if it was brand new. Emotions sprang out of her and she forgot everything that she was supposed to say.

Juniper got up hastily, looking terrified.

"Megan? Are you okay?"

Megan nodded, swiping at her tears.

"I want to marry you." As Juniper held out the ring box, Megan was fumbling with hers.

"What… What are you doing?" Juniper asked.

"I really, really want to be your wife. I figured that one of us was gonna propose this weekend so... I got you this."

Juniper laughed, happy tears leaking down her face as well.

"Of course you did. I should have known I couldn't keep a secret from you."

"Well, the ring is a surprise." Megan grinned, looking at the silver ring with a pretty green stone as it shimmered on her hand. She'd gotten Juniper a similar one with a purple stone, apparently they had the same taste.

"I love you so much," Juniper whispered.

"I love you too. And I can't wait to be your wife."

Juniper giggled, loving how Megan said wife.

"My wife. My beautiful, wonderful wife."

"My wonderful, beautiful wife," Megan said, pressing her forehead against Juniper's, content to stay that way forever. For that moment, everything was perfect.
