Disclaimer: If you recognize a character from POwer Rangers Dino Fury. I don't own them. they are owned by Hasbro. I am just stretching my creative side with creating a life for the characters.

Inspired by my story Fury of the generations as well as Zayto's flashback in episode 3. A look into how Zayto's life may have played out. Also please tell me in a review if you are getting Izzy vibes from Colin because that is my aim. it might not be apparent in this chapter but it is my intention to mold her after Izzy. I just want some help to make sure I am going in the right direction. Also I apologize this story is so long. I failed to put in a breaking point so view it as a two part episode please.

Zayto looked at his mother and Father. Tomorrow all his training was going to come to a close. If he had passed the exam he would be formally admitted as a knight of Rafcon. Sitting at the last meal of the 7th cycle they ate in contemplation of what was to come. They had prepared for this moment for the last week as they ate and then went into family meditation in which they synced their thoughts and emotions but tonight after the meal they would go to their platforms and begin the eighteen hour sleep cycle necessary to keep them in peak health.

After the meal was finished Zayto gathered the plates and started the cleaning process. His mother came to him, "Zayto sit with your father and spend time with him. Tomorrow by all designs we will not have this chance again."

"No mother, it is my duty as your son and future knight of Rafcon to take care of this house until I leave it." Zayto nodded as he patted her hand. "Tomorrow your life will look different as will mine but today it is as it has always been."

Smiling his mother left the room and went to join his father as they began to reflect on the previous cycle.

Once the cleanup was complete Zayto joined his parents as they went to their platforms. Looking at the empty platform that had been his older sisters he smiled sadly. After tonight his parents would have two empty platforms to look at. A culmination of a life well spent but sad none the less. His older sister had moved out almost two rotations ago when she had entered union with a councilman.

Sitting on his platform he looked at his parents who were already closing their thoughts down and bringing their being into themselves. He knew his cycle wouldn't come as easy tonight. He had many thoughts to fight back. So many biting thoughts telling him that he wasn't going to pass. This past cycle had been almost carefree as his test the previous cycle was being evaluated.

Opening his eyes he looked at the time piece that measured the amount of time asleep. His parents had already left the room so he knew he had been awake longer than they had the night prior.

Exiting the platform room he was welcomed by his mother who had brought forth an existing first meal for the first cycle. "So we are so proud of you no matter what happens today!"

"Thank you mother." Zayto responded as he received his meal.

"Did your thoughts trouble you son?" Zayto looked to his father.

"Yes but I expected them to. My life hopefully changes today." Zayto nodded, "father when you were waiting to find out if you had passed your pharmaceuticals exam did you get nervous?"

The man laughed, "yes I did. This waiting week is both a blessing and a curse no matter the field you are waiting to join."

"We couldn't be prouder of you my son. You are the first of both our families to get this far in knight training." His mother stood behind him and placed her hands on his shoulders.

"You have no idea how much of an honor this is for a family of commoners like ourselves to have their son not only nominated for training but to make it all the way through the final exam." His father beamed proudly, "your sister is also very proud of you. She couldn't come back to us as her first child is due anyway but she sends her greetings and blessings to you."

"Will you get word to me whether she has a son or a daughter? I was hoping that this news would come before…"

"Yes we will make sure you find out!" His mother looked at him as she touched his antennae with hers. "Finish your meal and we will go to your check in."

Zayto looked at his mother and Father as they walked up to the gates of the central processing unit. Every young rafconian came to these gates to recieve their placement after final tests were complete. His sister had not as she had been identified as a breeder and urged from a young age to unionize with a man of stature. It wasn't ideal but she had a good life and was very well cared for by her life partner. It was better than the life given to other breeders who refused this avenue. Sadly looking at his mother and saw her for the historian that she was and his father for the pharmacist that he was. His sister had never been any different to him certainly not stupid as IQ tests claimed she was. She had been the one to push him towards knight training even though it was above their station.

Once they entered the gates his parents hugged him and went to stand with other parents in front of a screen that displayed the statistics of others who were reporting for assignments. For security he wasn't allowed to see the screen but was instead ushered into another room. Checking in with the attendant he put his ID chip up to the screen "Zayto knight candidate reporting for final evaluation"

"Welcome candidate please go and sit in the chairs by terminal S. You will be summoned shortly." The attendant nodded and indicated to the groups of chairs and the doors marked with letters. Terminal B and terminal E had the most people waiting and when he found terminal S he was surprised to find that there were 2 other people waiting. Looking at one of the people he was shocked to see that it was a female. While their society was open and offered equal opportunity to all genders he had never heard of a female going into the service of knighthood.

The screen called her in and she left them as he sat down, "who is she?"

The other boy laughed, "don't be ogling my sister now commoner."

Zayto looked curiously at the other boy and realized what he had missed the first time. The boy was dressed in a fine military uniform and the girl had been as well. Of course that would make sense they were children of existing knights. This test was a formality for them but one that had to be done none the less.

"I wasn't ogling your sister. I just didn't expect to see a female here." Zayto paused, "I am Zayto by the way."

"Well get used to it commoner they are more common that your limited mind can fathom… that is if you even passed your test. It is so cruel how they make you wait like this to just be declassified as a laborer unless they give you a chance to train for another career." The boy sneered as he turned away from Zayto.

Zayto sighed, "his trainers had warned him that bred soldiers were arrogant but this other candidate was just rude."

Luckily the boy was called in shortly after and the ease of the wait was easier. A young man sat down next to him, "big day for both of us hmm?"

"Yeah, what district are you from?"

"Southern district. My family tried to urge me to not do this. You?"

"Here in the capital. I have stared at this building every day in my life." Zayto nodded as he kept glancing at the screen.

"You seem different then other bred knights." The other boy stated with a nervous laugh.

"My mother is a historian for the central magistrate. I'm not a bred knight either." Zayto explains with a quiet voice.

"Wow amazing. I never thought there were anyone other than knights here in the capital." The boy whistled.

"There are tons of other people! In fact before today I had never met a bred knight." Zayto explained.

"Wow in the south we think the only people in the capital are the knights. But the knights can't exactly run the entire planet right? I mean we are mostly brute force and strength right?"

"Hey, I will have you know that I passed all my IQ standards with flying colors. I had the pick of assignments. Knights have to be smarter than you realize. I assume you have done the Templar puzzle?"

"OH yeah that thing. Our instructor in the south gave us the solution. Said all knights have to do it as a formality." The boy laughed, "I am Uley by the way."

Zayto nodded, "I am Zayto. My instructors wouldn't let me come for my exam until I mastered the Templar's puzzle on my own."

"Lucky sounds like your parents have money." Uley nodded, "that kind of training sounds expensive."

"No, we were comfortable but often had to cut corners but may parents believed in letting my sister and I be whatever we wanted to be. I had a little more luxury in that aspect as it was made clear before schools would even admit us that my sister was a breeder."

"Ouch harsh man. What camp did she get sent to?"

"She was educated at a school here right along side me and has been set into a union." Zayto protested, "my sister is not in a breeder commune or camp. She is not a….

The screen flashed with his name.

The boy laughed, "yeah and you say you don't have any money right…."

Entering the chamber Zayto set his bag of belongings on the table and stepped into the pod. His body was scanned to confirm identity. Highlights for his training showed up on the screen along with a ranking system courage which he ranked in the top tier. Endurance again top tier. Confidence slightly lower but still top notch. His results for his test came in he ranked 75% while not good was better than he hoped for. But the screen kept going showing his interactions throughout the last week and his score went higher and higher. When it surmounted he was sitting at 95%. The screening up green and he received a pass. Stepping out of the booth he went into another chamber with his bag back in his hands. An attendant checked his bag to make sure he had only brought unmanned items and that it wasn't over the allowed weight for a knight to own. First year knights were only allowed a weight of five units of personal effects with a maximum of ten units allowed to be acquired while they lived in the barracks.

His personal items came to 4.1 units. He had been nervous that the extra letterpad his father had given him would put him over. Even while he had obsessively measured his bag over the last week. He was handed a uniform and told to strop for a final physical examination. His civilian clothes were put into a recycling chute to be reissued to another individual. He had known that and had been instructed to wear something that wouldn't be missed if he ever left the service of the knights. Donating one's clothes was considered an act of service towards becoming a knight and was one he was proud to partake in.

After his baseline examination was complete and his uniform was on correctly and had been inspected by a veteran knight he was handed his orders and shown to another door. Stepping out the door he found himself into the large waiting area. On the screen he could see his image with the words pass and occupation knight. Everyone in the room was cheering and he smiled proudly knowing the accomplishment he had just done.

Looking across the crowds he saw the sister and brother who had gone before him both wearing uniforms. The girls uniform was like his but the boy's was dark and the color of a specialist.

His parents hugged and kissed him, "we knew you would surpass all expectations son. You are a wonderful individual and will do well as a knight.

Zayto smiled and hugged both parents closely. "Thank you for everything you have done for me."

The door opened and Zayto watched as Uley came out not in a knights uniform but in the coveralls of a laborer. Zayto held his breath but could hear the boy from before sneer. Then there was the sound of someone getting slapped and him groaning.

No one greeted Uley and Zayto felt sad for his acquaintance. He had heard of this happening before. He had wondered if this was the case as Uley had mentioned about money if Uley's family hadn't been able to afford to come to the capital for their son's processing. Maybe it was for the best as he had failed but Zayto still felt sorry for the other boy.

Zayto's father looked at his watch, "I wish I could stay longer but I am needed at work. Stay strong my son."

His father walked through the crowd and disappeared. This was common for Zayto. Both his parents often pulled long days just to make ends meat for him and his sister and to give them a good life. His father more than his mother often missed celebrations and large events. But he always made up for it by celebrating with the family in New and exciting ways and defined the cause that it doesn't matter how or when you celebrate a holiday but who you spent it with.

This day was no different although this was the last day he would have with his parents he knew his father loved him and would always welcome him home.

"Congratulations… Zayto right?" A girl appeared by his side.

"Yes I am Zayto." Zayto nodded as he smiled at the girl.

"You can call me Colin. My official name is Colina but no one has ever called me that." The girl nodded back at him with her arm extended.

Zayto paused for a moment unsure if he wanted to open himself up to her or not but did end up taking her hand. Athletic, funny and passionate were the qualities he got from her. He took in her dark curly hair and her antennae that were folded over her hair.

Zayto's mother looked at her communication device, "zayto its your sister I have to take this."

"Farewell mother. Give Gianna my love." Zayto nodded as he looked at the huge sign that instructed people to take their personal calls outside this room for the safety and security of all.

Colin looked at Zayto, "you're just going to let your mother leave like that?"

Zayto nodded, "we have to report to our barracks soon don't we?"

"You commoners with your strange instructors. Why do none of them tell you the full story?" Colin frowned, "read your orders. We have six hours of personal time to spend with our families. Six hours which are strongly urged that you take. You won't see them again for at least the next year. If after a year and your still of a sound mind you might get a few days with them if your lucky. Other than that your lucky to get a brief message burst if anything at all. I should know I have three older siblings."

Zayto looked at the girl, "there are five of you… then your mother…"

"Is a breeder. Dresses up pretty nice if I do say so. There are others younger then me as well nine others in total. One sister and two brothers were classified as breeders however not bad odds if you ask me."

Zayto paled in the face, "fourteen of you? Even as a knight how did your father afford all of you?"

"Wow, you really are naive aren't you? She's a breeder. My dad hires her out for other knights amusement. We were all raised in a communal house however. Knights aren't the most paternal or even maternal in my case." Colin smiled but then frowned, "oh geesh someone close to you is a breeder, am i right?"

"My sister, she is due any day with her first child. She was able to get a union last rotation." Zayto paused as he breathed out the last words now fearing for his sister.

"Well she's in a union thats good. My dad just took my mother as a business venture. Her family was eager to be free of her." Colin nodded, "hopefully he is a good man and stands by her. My dad has already taken another and will put my mother out once all her children are grown."

Zayto sunk to the ground, "for your sake I hope he is. I couldn't imagine a life for her like what you had."

Colin looked at her timepiece, "are you going to waste your six hours or are you going to spend it with your loved ones?"

Zayto looked towards the exit. He could see his mother waiting for a transport with her mobile device in her hand. Smiling he ran after her.

"Zayto what are you doing here my boy?"

Zayto pulled out his orders, "I am allowed six hours with you before I report to the barracks. In my excitement I missed this and was just now noticing it."

His mother patted his hand, "unfortunately your father will be at work for the next eight. But come we will go find a bench in the park and give your sister a call. You can tell her your news your self."

Sitting in the park Zayto sat next to his mother as she opened a video link with his sister. "Mother… Zayto what a surprise. Father told me you went in for admittance a few hours ago."

"I have and I am now a full fledged knight just like you always dreamed of me being."

His sister began to cry, "Zayto you always make me smile! I love that you followed through. So many people always looked at me and did the opposite I asked just because I was a breeder!"

"You are not stupid! I love you Gianna and you see the true qualities in a person. If you thought I could be a knight I knew it was the right decision." Zayto cheered her on.

A man in a suit came into the room, "Gianna is that you mother?"

Gianna looked behind her, "yes Alward, and my brother Zayto. He is a brand new knight!"

Zayto nodded as he took in the older man who had picked up Gianna's union. He was a wealthy member of a council a few hours north of the capital. Gianna was his second wife of sorts. His first wife was infertile so after trying many things they had decided to bring a breeder into their home so that they could have a family. Union contracts were permanent. He could have gone to a camp and gotten any breeder to bear him children but he and his wife had chosen a more honorable way. They had already demonstrated the level of care they were giving Gianna, she was pursuing the arts and had sent his parents several beautiful portraits that she had created.

Alward sat next to Gianna, "you haven't told them then have you?"

Gianna kissed Alward on the cheek, "of course not silly."

Alward nodded, "well then Gianna and I would like to proudly announce that she is the mother of a wonderful baby boy! Zayto with your blessing she us adamant that we name him Zay after you!"

Zayto nodded, "I would love that very much. Thank you Alward!"

"Toru and I have officially decided then that our first son will be officially known as Zay Frin."

Zayto looked at his mother who was tearing up, thank you so much for this honor. I hope Zay grows up knowing how much Zayto means to Gianna. Also trust Gianna when her heart is set on something. She will never steer you wrong.

"We have already seen that." Alward nodded, "we have some much needed family bonding time to commence. Gianna wanted to call you first. I am surprised to see you however Zayto. Of course Gianna seemed to know you'd be there despite us telling her otherwise."

"Stay safe Zayto becoming a knight was only the first hurdle but now the danger starts." Gianna explained in an all too familiar tone as she pressed a button to end the call.

A feeling churned in his gut as he realized the weight of his words. If Gianna Said Something in that tone it was almost prophetic.

His mother looked at Zayto and smiled, "your a knight and an uncle all on the same day! How lucky can you get! Come let's go to our favorite spot. I have something for you. I was going to send it to you when you were able to recieve your first letter from home. But I think now is the perfect time to give it to you.

Waking with his mother to the sand flats just beyond the park. "Remember coming here as a young boy with me as I cataloged geodes for the council Zayto?"

Zayto laughed, "yes I asked you constantly why we allow such a barren voidless place this close to our capital city."

"And I told you that there were two reasons why. The first was because the sand reminds us that society and life while constant is always changing. What was once a certain way will change if enough force is applied to it. Such as the wind and these dunes. The second is because there is a ton of history buried here and to build here would permanently bury our only link to the past."

Zayto nodded as he sat in the sand and raked his hands through the sand to find a geode as his mother had taught him. Handing the geode to her hecstood up and brushed the sand from his uniform.

"This Zayto is what I was wanted to give you." His mother pulled a necklace from her pocket, "do you remember this?"

Zayto took the necklace and examined it, "it is the first Geode that I ever found!"

"Yes, I let you keep it as a treasure."

"But I lost it while playing with Gianna only a few cycles afterward. We were rough housing in the platform chamber and knocked everything off my console."

"Gianna found it before she moved out. It was in her hope chest. How it got there I will never know."

Zayto smiled as he handed the necklace back to his mother, "I think I know as you do as well but that is Gianna's story and not ours."

His mother handed it back to him, "remember who you are and where you came from my son. Being a knight is dangerous but when all seems lost remember to never give up." His mother said as she placed the necklace over his neck.

Looking at the Geode on his neck he smiled as he tucked it away.

"I know you only had six hours and while we still have time. I do not want to monopolize your time. I also want you to get to know your fellow knights. Let's go get a drink from a vendor and return you to your rightful place."

Zayto nodded as they walked along the path. Stopping at a street vendor his mother pulled from her pocket her allowance card. Zayto stopped his mother and pulled out his own, he knew he didn't have much as he hadn't received his first cycles wages yet but he knew he had enough to treat his mother one last time. She was one of the two hardest working individuals he had ever known. Purchasing three drinks they agreed to walk past the science center where his father worked and drop it off so he could say his final farewell as well.

At the desk they announced themselves. The secretary paged Zayto's father to the welcome desk. While they waited numerous scientists and pharmacists had to stop and take a double look at Zayto. In all people often got nervous if a knight was checking up on something. But once they realized it was Zayto they stopped and gave him a huge greeting.

"If it isn't little Zayto all grown up."

"Zayto your a knight! Will miracles never cease!"

"If you asked me what Zayto would grow up to be I would have told you guaranteed that boy is going to become a knight!"

During a moment Zayto looked at his mother. Suddenly he was feeling the weight of the uniform. Out on the street people had nodded or given him a second glance but they had just gone on their way. Zayto was a stranger and it had been clear that he was on his own time and not on duty. Here the scientists had known him since he was young and in some ways he was a member of their families just as their children had been his friends in school during the general studies years at least.

His father stepped into the atrium and got a huge smile on his face, "Zayto what are you doing here?"

His mother stood and kissed her husband our son had a few unexpected hours before he had to report. He wanted to use this chance to say goodbye one more time.

Zayto's father took the still cold drink and hugged Zayto tight. "I love you don't ever forget that."

Zayto hugged his father back, "I know and I thank you for everything you sacrificed to give Gianna and myself the life that you did."

"My boy, when you are a father you will know that what I have done us the only thing that matters."

Zayto finished his farewell and his mother walked him to the gates of the Central Processing building so that he could grab a transport to the barracks.

At the gates sitting there was Uley who was turning his allowance card around between his fingers.

"Uley, what are you still doing here?" Zayto asked as he stood in front of the other boy.

"This was a one way trip. I knew it coming here. I selected that if I didn't make it into the barracks I would become a laborer here in the city hoping that maybe I could get a second chance. However I neglected to realize that our paychecks don't come for another cycle and I can't afford a place to stay."

Zayto looked at his mother not sure what she would do.

"I would never allow a young man to sleep on the streets or even go hungry. Where are you assigned?" His mother stated with a nod.

"I am scheduled to start work with the park maintenance crew tomorrow."

"We now have two extra platforms in our house. I am sure my husband will agree. You will stay with us. Our residence is only three blocks from the park maintenance shed."

Uley nodded and stood to follow Zayto's mother away from the gates.

Catching the next transport to the barracks he looked at the seasoned knights who surrounded him. They didn't seem to say anything but he did notice them sizing him up. He in turn decided he shouldn't say anything either or else he might embarrass himself.

Arriving at the barracks he saw the sign for new recruits while all the experienced knights went in a different door going to the door that was meant for him he found himself in a room with other new recruits. The room was tense and you could almost cut it with a knife.

"Congratulations commoner, you actually made it back before the six hours are up. Most commoner take the entire six hours to socialize and romanticize their old life and the fact that they have a fancy new uniform.

Zayto turned, "nice to see you as well Colin. How long did you take to socialize?"

"None. I don't have a life outside this uniform and if it wasn't a status symbol my father never would have brought my mom even out of the compound. We had a party last night to bid my brother and I farewell. That was all that we get." Colin said as she leaned forward and looked at the other new recruits in the room.

"Colin's brother came over and sneered, "you fancy the commoner or something Colina?"

"Dont call me that Eustace and nah I'm just sizing him up. I give him a week before he goes crying to his mama!"

"OH a week hmm?" Zayto asked as he sized up Colin, "why a week?"

"Everyone knows that they run commoners who want to be knights through the ringer. You're lucky if you survive that long."

Zayto crossed his arms, "well I wish you luck then because from where I'm standing it looks like we are in the same squad. Our insignias match and everything."

Colin looked at her insignia and looked at his, how...it's not… Eustace…" she stormed off to find the other new recruits who were also bred to be knights.

Another recruit came over, "dude that was awesome!"

Zayto shrugged, "I just told her as I see it."

"Well you are awesome. Your the first one of us commoners as she calls us to stand up to her." The boy laughed, "I am pietre by the way and it does appear that your insignia is more like theirs than ours. You must have scored high or there was some sort of mistake when they gave you your uniform."

"They don't make mistakes like that. They know who is coming and how we scored before we even know ourselves. I got a…"

"Shh, don't tell us. We are supposed to keep our scores to ourselves. It won't help them accept you any better if they think your some sort of goodie twoshoes or something."

Zayto looked behind him at the bred knights and in front of him at the commoner knights. The bred knights wouldn't even look in their direction so he went to stand with the other commoners.

After the six hours expired several veteran knights entered and ordered them into formation. Both sides of the room scurried together to stand at attention.

"You entered this room as boys but you go into those Barracks as men and in some cases Ladies. You have been sorted into squads based on your training styles and fields that you have trained for. When called please step forward and retrieve your rack tags and kits. Care for these kits with your lives any future kits will come at a cost."

"You will be assigned to bunks in groups of seven. There is one platform per bunk. It will be up to your squad leader to determine who has what sleep cycle."

The names were called in alphabetical order which was fine by Zayto being towards the end of the alphabet it gave him a chance to see what he was working with in concerns to the bred and the commoners.

Arriving at his bunk he found a sign already on the door. Colin's name was first and he was last. Doing softly he realized that she thought she was being cruel by giving him the last cycle but in reality she was doing him a favor. He was on day one which meant he had six more days of this cycle before he would need to sleep. He knew better than to give her that information. Entering the bunk he noted the platform. And the rack where he could hang his kit. The lavatory in the corner. The room was pretty basic but it was a tight fit for seven people to share. His platform room back home had four platforms in it and it was over three times the size of the bunk. This room had one platform but also a lavatory and seven straight backed chairs in it.

Can came over to Zayto, "welcome to hell commoner!"

Another grinned, "I don't know how a commoner like you made it into our squad but your here and thats all we can do…"

"I don't expect you to make it easy on me but I do hope that we will fight together for the common good." Zayto nodded.
