Sinners and Saints
Re: Zero belongs to Tappei Nagatsuki! Fate belongs to the Nasuverse and TYPE-MOON. I own nothing!
Author's Note:
I know I was going to update "Fate: Zero Hair" with the rest of Ch. Two. Unfortunately, the way I structured the plot means that I need to have the end of the Monster Association Arc, or it is going to die for sure.
Well, then here we are. I have the first 500 words of Chapter 3 of "My Isekai Adventure is Horrible, Unexpectedly" prepared. However, with Practice Exams and AP Exams close, I have no promises on the release date. I'm also playing Fate: Grand Order again!
Summary: Natsuki Subaru was no stranger to the Arthurian Legend, but neither was he well-versed in British mythology. Something he sorely regretted when the beautiful King to be asked for a reason not to decapitate him. Honestly, he was still in shock that King Arthur was a girl!
Introduction Part 1: Machinations of a Jealous Witch
She loved him. After 400 years in the seal: her mind had withered. All reason had escaped her, so all she had was her love. She loved her as no one else could. She loved his strengths, and she loved his flaws. She loved everything else about him, for he was hers.
She was the [Witch of Envy], the Jealous Witch who devoured half the world. It took the combined might of Flugel the Sage, Reid the first Sword Saint, and the Divine Dragon Vollachia coupled with her insanity to barely even seal her away. She was the [Beast of Another World], after all.
There was nothing else to do in the seal, so after a few centuries, the [Witch of Envy] began to ponder. Merely frivolous thoughts for an Entity of her immense power, but so were most thoughts to her. Ever since she/Satella has wisely/foolishly absorbed the [Witch Factor of Envy], the half-elf witch had been in a state of base instinct. Little more than instinct and bestial intelligence, a humanoid Witchbeast in all but name.
In her new intellectual state, she realized that her original plan of bringing her beloved one to her world was ill-advised. Even in her diminished capacity, she knew that the people of her world cursed her name with all the hatred and venom they could spare, and then some. If she brought her "Natsuki Subaru" here, those filthy ingrates would spew their venomous lies into his ears and turn him against her.
There was another factor to consider the Evil Sealing Stone. The complexity of the Yin seal requires further explanation. Imagine a doorway representing the entrance to her world. With her [Authorities], it is child's play for her to move in and out. The seal acted as a locked door, using the basic principle of Yin Magic "Separation" to separate her from the World at large.
A short-sighted maneuver, but the Flugel had never reason to believe that Satella was interested in the myriad of other worlds. He was correct in that, Satella wasn't interested in these worlds. Even the world with "Natsuki Subaru" was only noteworthy because of her Subaru. A world that at first glance from onlookers would appear devoid of Magic.
And, yet when the [Witch of Envy] examined the World, she felt the pulse of the World itself. This world has an equivalent of Od Laguna but unlike that semi-sentient excuse for a God, since this World was hell-bent on achieving its' goal. That goal being protecting itself by exterminating the human pestilence on its' surface.
Unacceptable. The [Witch of Envy] was as bad as Echidona when it came to someone messing with her things. She reached out and nudged the entity. Upon communicating, for the first time in hundreds of years, she/Satella smiled/gaped with joy/horror.
No, she would not bring her Subaru to start again in another world at zero. She would instead do something far more likely to end in her favor. As the World incorporated her, the [Witch] searched for a mana-rich period to emerge into the world. With a heart fool of love, the silver-haired witch used her [Authority] and embraced her lover once more.
Natsuki Subaru was hers forevermore.
Introduction Part 2: Divergence from the Writ
Roswaal L. Mathers was not an easy man to infuriate. With generations of the absolute surety of the future as such petty emotions fell to the wayside. Or at least they did.
As always, he had been dutifully following the Writ of the [Tome of Knowledge] when the book had changed. Unthinkable, incomprehensible, and INCONCEIVABLE! The [Tome of Knowledge was no mere Gospel, whose fickle nature was well known to many. His Teacher's gift did not tell anything but the absolute truth of the future. None of his resources had managed to provide anything useful.
He was missing something obvious, and it was very irritating. He had not spent 400 years planning the resurrection of Echidona for everything to turn to ash at the finish line.
"Lord Roswaal?" He calmed his facial features and turned to the door, quickly fixing the mess on his desk.
"Yeees, Ram?" The pink-haired demon entered the room with the lack of grace and absolute surety unique to her.
"I have news pertaining to the Guild." The Assassin's Guild: the organization headed by Capella Esmerelda Lugunica; Cardinal Sin Archbishop of Lust in the Witch's Cult. Every assassin in that foul entity was renowned for their effectiveness. They would push through all odds against the threat of torture and death because if they failed, a fate far worse than anything else awaited them.
"As interesting as thaaat sounds Ram, I am in a bit of a -"
"That's just it, my Lord," Ram interrupted, a rare occurrence for her. "The Guild is not able to take requests at the moment because their leader has disappeared."
Capella disappearing? The Scorned Lover was not one to leave her toys unattended to, likely some buried fear of abandonment. His teacher had once said that coincidences were the drunken delusions of a fool. With Capella's disappearance and the state of his Gospel, he agreed with the sentiment wholeheartedly.
"Ram, dear. Please ask Rem to accompany our Candidate to the Capital, as I have a special task for you!" At the confounded look on the maid's face, the servant of the [Witch of Greed] smirked.
"I need you to check in with the local extremist faction of the Witch's Cult and see what dear old Petelgeuse is up to." Time to see if it was only one Cardinal Sin gone because if all the individuals drenched in [Authority] had disappeared, then his dream might just be ashes in the breeze.
Introduction Part 3: Not Quite Starting in Another World
Natsuki Subaru was not a man easily surprised. However, even he had to admit that his situation was likely paranormal. He had been leaving the convenience store and had blinked his eyes to find himself in the remains of a burned-out village.
He knew this trope, even though there was a distinct lack of a truck or Goddess.
"HAVE I BEEN TRANSPORTED TO ANOTHER WORLD?"
End Chapter
Author's Note: Honestly, this turned out way better than I thought it would. Not perfect, but one of the best starts I had to a story. From this point on, I won't be making any new stories. I'm going to update my Oregairu and Re: Zero fiction and BAMF. I likely won't post another chapter until the end of May with my Finals coming up though. Sorry for the inconvenience.
