Samantha Gray was on her way to a job interview when the portal opened and released hostile Chitauri invaders over New York City. She had dropped her coffee on her best shoes, cursed creatively, and gone to hide in the subway with everybody else, quaking with fear as the concrete walls shook around them.
But New Yorkers are resilient, and it wasn't long before the city decided that aliens and rogue science experiments are approximately as worrisome as five o'clock traffic.
Samantha is no exception to that rule, but she does seem to have exceptionally bad luck.
"You've got to be fucking joking." She glares at the skyline (currently obscured by a swarm of small, angry, alien bugs and the various heroes trying to squash them) and then down at her feet, where another insect lies crushed under her boots. Gross. Can't she have one normal day? Is that really asking so much?
Muttering under her breath about the stupidity of mad scientists who decided to weaponize bugs of all things, she drags her feet on the sidewalk in an attempt to dislodge the guts and bits of exoskeleton. Then she picks up her purse and continues on her way.
"I think I'm cursed, Kira."
"That bad, huh? What happened this time?"
"Slime monsters! Huge, green, disgusting things! Would it have killed them to attack just an hour later?!" Sam drops her keys on the kitchen table and lays her head on her arms beside them. "At least Emily was nice about it. We went back to her place and watched Pacific Rim . But I swear, if our next date gets interrupted by giant robots, I am moving to Idaho. Nothing ever happens in Idaho."
Kira sits down next to her friend and gently rubs her back. "Oh, come on, Sam, you'd be bored to tears and you know it! Besides, you hate potatoes."
Sam snorts,"Yeah, you're right. I just want a little normalcy once in a while. And I'd rather not embarrass myself in front of my beautiful girlfriend by falling face-first into a slime puddle."
"Normalcy, huh? How about we get takeout from that Korean place you like and watch Netflix 'till 2AM?" Kira smirks. "First one to the remote gets to pick the show."
"Oh, you're on!"
