Book Lover

Chapter: One

Walking into her small apartment Kagome flipped on the light switch before dropping her keys into the bowl next to her family's pictures on a small end stand as she juggled the books in her arms, the cell phone at her ear, and a very hungry cat mewing and wrapping himself around her ankles. "Yes, Momma. I'm home. Yup, the door is locked. No, of course not. I'm going straight to bed."

Emptying her arms onto a small kitchenette table, biting her lips as she looked over the books like they were a juicy steak. "Well, I might do some work." Mumbling and nodded as she heard her mothers disapproval in her voice. "I know I know. I will sleep. Promise, and I'll see you tomorrow... No, yeah. So excited." Kagome swallowed hard, hiding her disappointment at the engagement, but it was inevitable. Sooner or later her baby brother would find true love and here she was... a lonely girl and her books. "Night momma. Love you too." Hanging up the call Kagome tossed it down onto the couch nearby and then threw her own body into the cushions. Grabbing a decorative pillow she growled into it until she felt better. Sitting up she took in a deep breath and let it out ever so slowly. There. Better. Nodding she sat up straight, patted her knees and forced herself up to go change. "Don't mind me. I'm just going to go slip into something a little more comfortable." Giving a flirty wave to the books on the table.

The room layout was a loft style. One large room that filled up her entire life, and a bathroom. Books lined the shelves, walls, and any surface you could find was a book. Walking around a stack she collected a comfortable pair of sleep shorts, and an oversized night shirt.

Changing, and cleaning up for bed she looked to her bed and wiggled her hips in thought. She really should go to bed... A big day tomorrow. "Souta's rehearsal breakfast." Kagome tested the words on her tongue. Still didn't seem real, and as happy as she was happy for the sweet young couple she still couldn't help but feel like the world was moving along without her. "No." Holding up a finger she prepared to scold herself. "You do not get to mope when you yourself have done nothing to remedy the very lonely situation." Nodding she placed her hands on her hips feeling a little better with the mental pep talk. "Now, sleep or books?" Feeling the feline once more she smiled. "Books, right Buyo?" The fat cat meowed. "I'll take that as a yes." He nodded as she walked them into the kitchen to put down some food. "There you go, eat up." Patting his head she wandered around the kitchen making a cup of tea doctoring it up just the way she liked it.

Stopping at the table she scooped four books into her hands and almost skipped over her favorite reading chair. It was large and squishy, and the poor thing looked like it had seen better days, but it hugged her just right with overly large arm rests perfect to line up multiple books at once, and still have room for a journal to take notes. Setting up she reached for the book she was so excited to get her hands on. It was a one of a kind, real leather wrapped, and in pristine condition. Kagome ran her fingers down it's delicate spine wanting the feel book before she donned her cotton gloves. "I'm going to figure you out little one." Speaking to it as if it were near and dear to her. She would care for it deeply and, that wasn't too far from the truth. Books were her life.

Kagome lived and breathed books, and enjoyed every moment of it. Being one of the only registrars who could read fifteen different languages dating back to 1200BC to more modern text, when the book mysteriously was donated to the museum. "I shouldn't have brought you home, but how could I resist." Sighing knowing that this could easily be the end of her career, but she became very good at hiding her little addiction over the years. "Plus, I get so much more work done when home." Placing her small black framed spectacles onto her noes she smiled down warmly at the book as she slowly untied the used leather straps and opened the book. A draft shifted through her causing goose flesh, and a chill down her spine, as if the book itself took a breath and blew it over her neck. Her body shivered and she shook her head. "You really need to get out more, but not tonight." Grabbing for her pencil she began to note the stats of the book in an orderly fashion noting age, and any outerly appearances.

Glancing over the first few pages trying to determine the language it was based from. "So strange... What are you." Fingering over characters that looked to be derived from mixed languages. A few words she could pick though, making out every few words. Biting her lip she flipped open books until she was surrounded looking from one to another at an attempt to make head or tail of this mystery book, but it was so complex.

"I've never." Kagome felt a bubble pull into her stomach with anticipation and frustration in all one flip. Butterflies because of a book and she couldn't feel more giddy. "You are amazing." She whispered as she made notes faster than her hand could keep up. The feeling of a finger grazing her cheek just as she did the letter caused her to pause and look around the room. Ignoring the phantom feeling she chalked it up to lack of hours of sleep. Her tea left untouched and cold, Kagome felt her back and legs cramping from being pulled up into a small ball, and hunched over the book in question. Still she couldn't break the code on this enigma.

"What are you..." Turning the page she straightened her back as she recognized a language called Yi. That is exactly what it was. A code... Coded in many languages, but now that she knew the baseline language she could create a cipher. "Now we're getting somewhere." Feeling a jolt of renewed energy with the new findings "Summoning a Lover..." Her fingers ran across the words in Yi as she spoke them aloud.

"Help me...Free me..." A whispered gush of wind blew through her hair. Kagome stood straight up looking around the dark room. "Who's there." Her voice broke as she tried to sound brave, but the crack did just the opposite. The voice replayed in her mind over and over again as she tried to find a reason for the phantom voice, but there was none to be found except she was so tired she was imagining things, and hearing a very deep baritone voice whispering into her hair at...

Glancing to the clock 4:00 A.M. Kagome groaned alloud. "I think this would be a good place to stop." Closing up the books she packed them away safely onto the lamp stand, but the little leather one came with her, and into her end stands table for safe keeping. Climbing into bed Kagome groaned at the feeling of the soft mattress under soon as she closed her eyes she felt the mattress move, pressure of someone sitting or leaning on the bed. "Buyo?" She was able to mumble, but every other part of her was frozen. Completely and utterly numb. Her limbs felt as if they no longer belonged to her, and she was just floating on the surface of her bed. Forcing her eyes to open she was able to do that much. Looking around she caught sight of silver at the end of the bed.

A quick sharp breath of intake caused her lungs to hurt, her heart raced as adrenaline shot throughout her body. Fight or flight! She couldn't do either. "Who's there?!" Trying to keep her voice strong, but waver in the last part gave her away. Kagome was terrified. Slowly an image of a man appeared. Long silver hair, golden eyes that glowed in the night like an animals reflective glare. He pulled himself onto her bed, slowly moving his way closer. "Stop!" Her voice tried. "Leave right now, and I won't call the police. Please..." Swallowing hard as she eyed the man from head to chest was all she could see. "What the... What are you..." Dog ears sat at the top of his head, and down his chest were marks. No, scars. He grinned up at her with a fanged smile as he lifted the blankets from her feet to expose her bare legs. He gripped one foot gently, rubbing it in a soothing motion. "Don't touch me! Stop this!" Kagome wanted to kick at him. Get him away from her, but her body completely frozen wouldn't allow any movement on her part, but she could feel. Oh could she feel! Just the touch of her arch as his clawed fingers pressed into her arch in a circular motion, her eyes slowly dropped close.

'Free me...' A breath of hot air blew over her face, and when she opened her eyes he was gone... Then blankets moved just as they had a moment ago, but there was no man.. Or whatever that was...Flying from her bed she turned on every light in the house. No person in sight. "A dream?" Kagome let out a breathy laugh of relief. "Just a dream... My goodness, girl. You're losing your mind. Strange men rubbing your foot." She ran a shaky hand through her hair as she returned to all the light and turned the back off. "He looked so... different.." Her mind's eye pictured him looking up at her. That cocky toothy smile, dog ears perked up, and his eyes... Like hot orbs of warm golden amber burning into her... Her stomach flipped at just the mere thought.

"Stop it. Back to bed with you, and no more odd fantasies..." Was that even a fantasy? If it wasn't it sure was now... Goodness... She felt hot and bothered by a foot rub. Crawling back into bed she closed her eyes and half expected to see her podophilliac once more, but this time he was no where to be found. Not sure if that was disappointment or relief when she woke to an alarm, but there was some kind of feeling of loss.

Morning came all too early and Kagome had a full day on her plate, but during every moment of it she continued to see those eyes... those fangs in that sexy grin. When did he become sexy? Well, it very well could have been when she remembered that he was bare chested. The bed blocked the rest of him, so who knows what was going on down below, but Kagome couldn't help but blush every time she thought back to the encounter. All through the rehearsal breakfast, the wedding rehearsal at the park, final dress fittings, and even drinks afterwards she couldn't get her mind to focus on the item at hand.

"Kagome?! Where are you?" Snapping to Kagome looked up from her cocktail to see her close friend who was also friends of the bride to be, and worked with her out of town. Kagome got lucky to get tagged along with the wedding party being that she was the sister of the bride to be. Getting pulled into the wedding party out of respect of her brother. Kagome couldn't care less if she was in the wedding or not, but when her sister in law to be asked, Sango gave her the eye that said 'do it or die.'... Sango wasn't much for dresses, so if she had to get into one, Kagome was going to tortured with tool too. Either way it didn't bother her much, and to be with Sango who she hadn't seen in years after collage made it all worth her while.

"Oh, gosh. Sango. Sorry... My mind seems to be elsewhere these days." Kagome gave her a sheepish smile before she leaned in and gave Sango her full attention. "Okay, go on. You were saying."

"Uh uhhh. I want to know what was going on in that brainy mind of yours, and please don't tell me a book. A book doesn't make a girl glow and blush like I'm seeing right now." She teased, but Kagome looked away sheepishly. Sango's face fell. "Please tell me this is not about a book?"

"Well, yes. And no?" Kagome sighed and let her face fall into her hands. "Please don't think I'm crazy-"

"I already do." Sango said in a droll tone.

"Well, you're about to think even more so..." Kagome's voice mumbled off as she then turned to her friend and told her all about her time with her book, and the mystery foot rubbing sexy dog man.

"Oh, my..." Sango blew out air. "I wanted you to find a man, Kagome. A real one. Tangible... This is not healthy... Y-your not sleeping, or eating properly... Kagome. You have to.." Sango met her right in the eye. "Grow up, your twenty-sex, and still single. You're not getting any younger you know...

Kagome looked as if she had been slapped across the face then it smoothed over quickly and smoothly as if practiced no, rehearsed. "Sango, I was only teasing. You're so gullible to fall for such an imaginative story!" Kagome pulled on a wide grin and smacked at her friend's shoulder.

"Oh, my gosh, girl... You had me worried." Sango laughed and shook her head.

Kagome stumbled into her apartment having had one too many of these delicious cocktails, but she was sure it was all Sango's ploy to get her drunk and send her home with some random stranger and get sexed up, but Kagome couldn't get that man from her mind. That... grin, fangs, claws, white hair, and dog ears? "You're too drunk to think." Mumbling to herself as she turned on the light and in the corner of the room leaning over her night stand as naked as the day he was born. A man. Not just any man. The man.

A shrill scream escaped her mouth as she tried to back out the door, but she stumbled closing the door instead. It was as fast as a blink that one moment he was across the room, and the next he was in front of her. His eyes roamed her body with those orbs burning her right out of her clothes. "Wha-" Trying to speak, but her mind couldn't form words. Her mind hazed over from the alcohol, and tongue twisted on so many questions she couldn't bring forward. Why was the man in her apartment? Why was he naked? Why was he in her dreams? And why in the hell was he touching her?! It was not she realized there were hands on her hips. Slowly they moved her out of the way of the door and slowly moved under her, carrying her wedding style. The warmth of his naked flesh almost had her snuggling into his chest. Flags and sirens blared in her mind, but she was helpless to stop him. Strong arms carried her, feeling her bed dip under her weight and the warmth from his body disappeared. Shaking her head she reached out a hand to him, her eyes tightly closed because if she failed to make him stop, she might just beg him not to... What was this reaction?! Was she that lonely? Her hand met only air and she fell forward off the bed.

Blinking, she looked around the room, and she was alone. Scrambling up onto her bed she flew over it to see underneath. Nothing. "Hello?" Pulling herself back up. "What is happening to me?" Vision blurry from fresh tears, she just sat there looking around her room... Too afraid to sleep.

A little something that came to mind. Please let me know what you think? Thanks for stopping by! Much love! Mikiru333 -Edited Version 2.0-
