Summary: Angela is eager to get back to work after some time off, as summer begins to wind down.

I can't believe it's time to head back to work already. My summer hiatus is over, and several weeks' worth of work awaits me. The Miashiro brothers are flying in to reorganize their American campaign, which hasn't produced the numbers we were expecting, and as of this minute, I can't identify the problematic element with either the print ads or TV spots. But if I want to keep the account, I have until Wednesday to figure it out. I'm also really excited about a proposal for Encanto Records out of L.A., which is reportedly looking for an East Coast agency to market to an East Coast audience. Go figure. Anything definite could be a long time in coming, but I think I've got a small jump on the competition thanks to a contact of Jack's from UCLA.

And as September rolls around, so does the end of the fiscal year, so the usual (and mundane) paper pushing will no doubt keep me at the office late. Depending on how it goes, I may bring on a second accountant to keep in-office. With the new account manager, graphic artist, and part-time assistant I recently hired, The Bower Agency begins its third year of operation with a staff of seven counting Jack, Mother, and myself – more than I ever anticipated. With all the business Jack helped bring it over the last year, I was able to add four more people – Stan, Meredith, Lisa, and Neal – who have all proven to be very worthy investments and, even more importantly, wonderful people. And I'm already considering adding someone else.

Sam and Jonathan will both be at Fairfield High this year. Sam is beginning her junior year, and my little boy is a freshman. They haven't been in the same school since Sam's first year in Connecticut, when she was in sixth grade and Jonathan was in third. I wonder how they'll get along? We have orientation for Jonathan next week, and before we know it, these last fleeting sunny days will become the memories of one more summer gone, and the fifth anniversary of ... well, nevermind.

Well, that's about it. Oh, Jamaica was great – just the break I needed. The island was paradise, and I feel like I saw every square inch. Now I can't wait to dive back into work, school, and the normal routines of life.
