Cassie Blake and her two best friends, Mariana and Malia, were at Anchor Beach Community Charter School in San Diego, California.
"I can't believe you're leaving town." Mariana said.
"You know how my mom is." Cassie said, rolling her eyes.
"We will miss you." Malia frowned as Cassie turned from her back to Mariana.
"You sure you'll be okay without me? I know that it's been difficult after everything." The blond said to the Adams Foster girl. Both of them attend Anchor Beach Charter Community School and they've been best friends since they ran into each other in the hallway when Cassie was the new girl. Ever since then, they consider each other as sisters along with Malia.
"I got through it and will continue to do so. Maybe I'll come visit, but we have to stay in touch." Mariana said.
"Of course." Cassie had a vision of a guy who looks a lot like Mariana's previous boyfriend, Nick Stratos. Speaking of him, she kind of set them up together and wished things turned out differently. "I'll text you the details when I find out."
The bell rang and they all went to class together. School went by fast since none of them wanted Cassie to move again.
Cassie went home to pack before she left to spend some time with the girls before she left the next day.
They had a good time, watching movies, laughing and talking before she went home.
A long winding street. The road is empty when a car flies by. Behind the wheel is Cassie having a private moment with the stereo. She's startled by a honking horn. Headlights blinded as a car whizzes by, passing her. She road rages.
"C'mon. Really?"
Her front wheel explodes. A blowout. The car jerks and skids, careening off the road. Cassie responds instantly. She let's off the gas, turns into the skid, the car jerks and grinds to a stop. Cassie gets out, looks to her front tire. It's flat. Cassie looks around. She sees a car idling half a block up the road. The same one that passed her. It just sits there, as if watching. She can't make out who's behind the wheel. She calls out.
"Hey...Hey...Hey...Can I get a...?" The car quickly speeds away.
Amelia Blake is in the kitchen preparing food. The phone rings and she answers it.
"Hello?"
"I got a flat." Cassie replies through the phone.
"Where are you?"
"Close. I'm on Oak."
"Are you okay? Did you call AAA?"
"I know how to change a tire, mom."
"I'm coming."
"Oh, good idea. Take your car. Oh wait, it has a flat." She said, sarcastically.
"Well then I will walk or catch a cab." Amelia smiled.
"Like you know how to change a tire. I got it."
The car that drove past Cassie idles up the street outside the Blake House.
"Well then I'll stand there and watch you do it smarty pants."
"Seriously, I got it."
The man who drove away and left Cassie on the street can be seen. The phone goes static.
"Cassie?"
"Mom?"
The driver starts to get out.
"Hello?"
Amelia looks at the phone. The man walks up to the Blake House, pouring out a bottle of water. Water sprays from the faucet unexpectedly. She goes to turn it off. It gushes water onto the floor, everywhere. The man withdraws a box of matches while Amelia is struggling to stop the faucet. He strikes a single match, igniting a burner on the stove. Amelia quickly turns it off. The man strikes another match, causing the burner to ignite again. He strikes several more matches, setting the kitchen on fire. Panicking, Amelia accidentally slips on the wet floor.
"Cassie." She gasps before she starts crawling out of the kitchen, while the man withdraws many matches. As Amelia is struggling to escape the flames, screaming, the man strikes all the matches at once and drops them. The Blake House explodes as the man walks away.
One month later...
Cassie's standing next to her car, staring at the lake. She starts crying, and gets in her car. She drives past a sign saying "Welcome to Chance Harbor, Washington."
Awhile later, she pulls up in front of the Blake House. She gets out of the car, takes her things and stares for a moment at the house, before deciding to go up to it. Cassie's grandmother, Jane Blake, comes out of the house.
"Cassie! Hi. Aahh." They hug.
"Hey Grandma."
"I should never have let you drive by yourself."
"Well, it's not like I gave you a choice." Cassie replied, smiling.
"How are you?"
"I'm good." She fakes a smile before Jane hugs her.
"I'm really glad you're here. Come on." They go in the house and Cassie looks around.
"So this is where my Mom grew up."
"Come on, I'll show you your room."
They head upstairs to Cassie's room.
"We can move everything out. I should have by now. It's only been sixteen years." Jane said, opening the door and standing next to it.
"There's so much about her I didn't know. How come she never came home?" She asks her grandmother, turning around.
"What did she tell you?"
The 16 year old sighed and put her bag down. "Not much. Just the headlines."
"You just been born when your dad had his accident. It was hard for her here. I think she wanted to start over."
"Yeah, it's pretty much what she said."
Cassie looks around her room.
"I'll let you get settled. Dinner will be ready soon."
Jane walks out of the room. Cassie sits on the bed before she unpacks. When she is done, she hears rustling from the mantle and opens up a hidden cover before she pulls a book out. Curious, she sits on her bed and reads it. Flipping through the pages, she finds a letter from her mom. Opening the envelope, she takes out the paper and her eyes move to each word. Sighing, she put the note up and back into her book before she goes outside to clear her mind and tries to start her car, but it won't work.
"Damn." She says to herself.
"Need some help?" The blond haired boy from next door asks, looking at her.
"My car was working fine, but now it won't start."
"You're attending Chance Harbor High, right?"
"Tomorrow's my first day. I'm Cassie Blake."
"Nick Armstrong. If you want I can give you a ride tomorrow."
"Sure. I just wanted to check since a tire popped on my way back home in California."
"I was thinking we could go out sometime." He asked, smirking.
"Sure. Of course." He lead her to his car and they left. He took her to Java Brew and they spent time together before they went back to their houses.
"I'll see you tomorrow." He replied about to go into his house.
"Hey, I have to show you something." She says before she goes into her house and into her room with him behind her.
She handed him the book and showed it to him, mainly the names of the circle members on the back cover.
"What is this?" He asked.
"We are witches." She replied to his shock and even though he tried to keep his expression blank, his eyes gave his emotions away.
"Who else knows?" He asked.
"Just us." She replied.
He nodded and smirked.
Later that night, Cassie, just clad in a bathrobe, comes out of the bathroom and goes over to the drawer to get sleeping clothes. She heads to the window to close the curtains, where she notices Nick with his shirt partially opened, staring at her. She gives him a mock smile, before closing the curtains. She walks away, takes off her bathrobe and puts on her sleeping clothes with a smile before going into the house and gets ready for bed, humming.
"Your mom used to hum that."
"All the time. I stole it from her." The 16 year old said.
"You ready for school tomorrow?"
"Is anyone ever?"
"If you have trouble sleeping, your mom used to count the stars." Cassie's confused, but Jane just kisses her on her forehead.
"Sleep well." Her grandmother replied before leaving the room. Thinking about what her grandma just said, Cassie gets into bed and turns off the light. She lies down and notices a representation of the night sky filled with stars on the ceiling. Cassie bends over to look at pictures of her and her mom. She gets emotional and puts the phone down before lying down to sleep.

"We're happy to have you Cassie. I'm Principal Chamberlain. I knew your mother." She smiled and the younger blond smiles awkwardly. "I guess she didn't talk about me much."
"She never really talked about her life here."
"Listen, if there's anything that I can do to help your transition here, you let me know OK?"
Cassie nods before getting her stuff and walking out into the hallway, looking for her locker before she noticed Nick at his.
She found her locker and opened it, putting her papers in the top shelf.
"Hey." Nick replied, standing next to her.
"Oh, hey."
"I can show you around if you want."
"Of course. I'd like that." He saw her schedule and noticed she had a class with him first period. "How are you dealing with...?" She asked, going down the hall as he followed and shrugged.
He showed her around before they went to class and sat down. Classes were pretty boring and went by slowly. Cassie passed the time by writing in her notebook that wasn't for school.
Eventually, it was time for them to go home. Cassie got in her car and they drove to an abandoned house.
Walking inside and up the stairs to their right, they walked into a room. They tried some spells, but could only open locked doors, curtains and small stuff like that.
"Well, I guess we can go home now." He said as she agreed.
"I'm sorry if I ruined your normal life."
"Don't be. Ordinary is boring." He smirked.
"Agreed." She said.
