CHARACTER INFORMATION NEED TO KNOW:
Serena Benson was a prominent English professor at Hudson University in New York. She was career driven, unmarried, and had no thoughts of having children. She spent her days and nights on campus. Education was her entire life. While walking to her car late at night, she was raped by one of her former students, Joseph Hollister. He was a senior and Serena failed him in his final class. He was unable to graduate and hated her. He was never caught and Serena was left pregnant. Although Serena decided to keep the baby out of shame, she was never the same. Serena gave birth to a baby girl who she named Olivia. She continued teaching, moving on to Columbia University. She became a closet drunk, drinking the moment she walked into her home until the moment she passed out until her death when Olivia was 18.
Olivia Benson was often left to take care of herself. Serena told Olivia how she was conceived when she was 16 and dating one of her 20 year old students. Olivia wasn't a wild teenager, she was just looking for love. When she learned she was a product of rape, it changed her life. She decided then she wanted to be a police officer and help women like her mother. She realized why her mother was the way she was. Olivia is currently seriously dating a lawyer Trevor Langan who works for Carrick Grey's law firm.
Joseph Hollister graduated in the winter after failing to in the spring. It was a little too late, he was going to be the first in his family to finish college. His mother died before seeing it happen. He only meant to hurt Professor Benson. He worked in food sales and his company had deals with multiple universities in New York. When he learned that Professor Benson was no longer at Hudson, he thought he achieved that goal. When his company picked up a deal with Columbia, he saw she had moved on. When he learned she had a daughter, he did the math. He was a monster and he never forgave himself. He requested a transfer to Washington State and met Anna Wilkes. They married and had one child Carla.
Carla Mae Wilkes Hollister grew up different from Olivia. Carla, her mother, and her father had a great relationship. Her mother and father were in a bad car accident when she was 17. Her mother died on impact and her father was badly injured. He needed surgery and the doctors still weren't sure he would live. He told her she had a sister in New York and everything she needed was in the safe. Her father died later that night. Her father left her the house, money, and a note explaining her sister Olivia. When she learned her father raped Olivia's mother she was too ashamed to contact her. Carla was dating Frank Lambert when her parents died. She found out she was pregnant days later. Before they could marry, Frank was killed during an accident while in the Marines. The same day she gave birth to their daughter Anastasia. Once having her daughter and being alone she reached out to Olivia. Olivia wasn't surprised and was over the moon to have a sister, she didn't hold anything against her, it wasn't her fault. They became close and talked daily, although they didn't see each other much, only during the holidays.
Anastasia Rose Lambert grew up with her mother and stepfather Ray Steele. She was smart, pretty, and a smart ass. She gave Carla and Ray a run for their money. And they did have money, lots of it. Ana never wanted for material things, but love wasn't something Carla was able to give her. Unlike Carla, Ana grew up knowing the truth and how Olivia was her Aunt. She loved her Aunt Liv and enjoyed her whenever she could visit.
Christian Grey is the youngest son to Grace (Pediatrician) and Carrick Grey (Lawyer). He was adopted like all of his siblings. The family was originally from Detroit, where they were all adopted. They moved to New York right after adopting Christian. Mia Grey is the oldest, she is a senior in high school. Elliot Grey is the middle child, he is a sophomore in high school. Christian is in 8th grade.
Alex Cabot Stone is an ADA and is married to ADA Peter Stone. Alex and Olivia are best friends and have been since meeting in college. They have one daughter Amanda she is in 8th grade.
Chapter 1
Ana grabbed her book bag for school and headed downstairs. She saw Ray and her mother already at breakfast and rolled her eyes. She knew a lecture was coming, from the trouble at school the day before. Ana was in 8th grade and she did what she wanted when she wanted. She grabbed some toast and started to leave, when Ray spoke up. "Nope! Sit and eat a normal breakfast." Ana spun around, "You are the stepfather, you do know that right? I don't have to listen to you." With that Ana stormed out of the house, not headed to school.
Then the argument started, "Carla I will not be disrespected in my house like that. You better get a hold on her. We don't even know where she is half the time." Carla and Ray had too many arguments over Ana lately. They had their own problems and didn't have time to add her to it. She had become a major problem in their marriage and life.
Carla called her big sister crying and asking for advice. "Liv she's out of control and ruining my marriage. I messed up and didn't discipline her as I should have and if Ray even tries. You should hear the way she speaks to him. She acts as if he hasn't raised her. She needs something else." Olivia hated hearing her little sister cry. "She got in trouble again today, one more time and she's expelled." Olivia asked, "Will she pass?" Carla laughed, "Oh yeah! And believe me she knows it. I think it's her plan."
Olivia knew she needed to help them, "How about I come and get her? For summer, give you a break. I am her Aunt." Carla needed Ana gone immediately. She explained her situation. "Ray is taking a job in Vegas and we're moving. She doesn't know yet. Liv I had her too young, didn't know what I was doing. It's my fault." Olivia listened, "Carla let me take her. Vegas definitely doesn't sound like a place for her and you and Ray can have time that you deserve." Carla was persistent, "Can you come now?" Olivia thought it was strange, but her sister never asked her for anything and Ana was her niece. "I will be there by the weekend."
Olivia arrived on Friday. She hugged her sister tightly and then Ray. "Where is the trouble maker?" Ray only said, "Your guess is as good as ours." She didn't know what was going on. She didn't see her often, but it all seemed out of nowhere. "Why didn't you say something before. This seems bad. She looked at Carla and pulled out her phone. She hit Ana's name, "This should be a surprise." The phone rang once, then twice, "Hello? Aunt Liv?" Olivia smiled because she knew this was a shock, with a bigger shock coming, "Hey sweet girl!" Olivia always called her that." "How are you doing?" Ana paused, "I'm doing good. Just chillin." Olivia wanted to see if she was going to lie, "Really. Are you at home?" Ana knew she shouldn't, but she lied and walked right into Olivia's trap." Ana said yes, but was quickly in shock. "Well that's strange, because I am at your house looking for you, but you aren't here and your parents don't know where you are."
Just as Olivia expected, silence. Finally Ana spoke, "You mean parent. Ray is not a part of me." Olivia wasn't going to do this on the phone, but she didn't like her attitude at all. This was not the Ana she knew. "Ana you have 5 minutes to get here. Every minute past that will be a consequence from me." With that she hung up and looked at the time. While waiting for Ana, Ray and Carla made sure her bags were packed and everything was signed. Olivia thought it was so rushed. "Why didn't you two call me before it got bad or as soon as you knew you were moving. I'll take her, but it seems so sudden. Clara and Ray had a big secret and no one else knew the plan. They had custody transferred, because it wasn't going to be just a summer. Olivia knew something was up, but she decided to take whatever it was to get Ana out. 9 minutes passed and no Ana.
Ray went to bed and Carla said, "Liv she has no fear. I don't think" just then the door flew open and they looked at an out of breath Ana standing in front of them. "10 minutes late." Ana was confused, "Aunt Liv why are you here?" Olivia stepped forward, "No hug?" Ana hugged her tight, she didn't see her often, but she loved her Aunt Liv and respected her more than her mother. "I'm here for you. You are coming with me." Ana swallowed hard, "Since you can't behave and be respectful with my sister and her husband, then you get me."
Ana looked at Carla, "Wow some mother, maybe you're a STEP PARENT too." She knew she was already in trouble, so she didn't care what she said. Olivia couldn't believe what she was seeing and hearing. Olivia pushed Ana to Carla, "Say goodnight to your mom, because you've got me tonight." Ana looked at Olivia, "No." Olivia was shocked, "Excuse me. Let's get this clear. I don't know when you became disrespectful like this but it's going to stop right now. When I tell you to do something, you do it. NOW ANA! Ana walked over, "Goodnight." Olivia looked around, "Where's your room?" Ana took her to her room and Olivia looked around. "Sit! Now!"
She began to lecture Ana, but it didn't feel the same. "Why don't you like Ray?" Ana thought, "He's not my dad." Olivia looked, "Oh yeah. You made that clear on the phone with your smart mouth. You're right, but he has taken care of you like a father. Has he done something to you?" Ana shrugged, "What do you mean?" Olivia paced in front of here, "Has he hurt you, put his hands on you in any way? Anything I need to know?" Ana was getting mad, "No! He's never done anything like that. He doesn't even discipline me. He's not my fucking dad and I don't have to like him."
Olivia walked to her and pulled her up so close to her face."Your language is totally unacceptable. You are 13 and you will not speak that way. When I got here tonight, they didn't even know where you were. That will not be tolerated. You are coming to stay with me and I run a different ship. Do you understand?" Ana knew her Aunt was right and she was wrong. "Yes." Olivia stepped back, "Yes what Ana?" Ana was quick to correct herself, "Yes ma'am."
Olivia took off her belt, "You were 10 minutes late so that's how many hits you get as a consequence. You will be lucky to sit comfortably on the plane tomorrow. Between your disrespectful mouth and disappearing when you want. This is way overdue." Ana gulped, "Aunt Liv please don't." Olivia shook her head, "You've been acting up in school, disrespectful to every adult in your life, look at the way you just spoke to me. Now that it's time to face the consequences…" Ana looked terrified and cut her off, "Yes ma'am, but they don't hit me." Olivia scoffed, "That's the problem. Fine I'll go easy 5 hits and you can leave your jeans on."
Olivia moved closer, "Let me be clear with you. I love you. I love you way too much to allow you to behave the way I've heard about and now seen for myself. I don't even know who you are. Where is my sweet girl that always wants to talk to me." Ana always did like her aunt. Olivia continued, "You will get it together and get your butt in gear or your butt will have a very hard time." Ana shook her head, "Yes ma'am." Olivia placed Ana's hands on the bed, "Don't move and don't put your hands back." Olivia gave her 5 good hits. Ana cried and jumped and that was with Olivia going easy.
She sent her to shower and change. Olivia was tired herself and went to her room to shower and change. When she came out Ana was on her bed, "Hey!" Ana wiped her eyes, "I'm sorry Aunt Liv." Olivia didn't feel bad, she knew all the lack of discipline was the cause and it wasn't too late. She did want and need to figure out the why. Things around here weren't adding up. "Come here." Ana ran into her arms and hugged her, "It's going to be ok Ana, but you can't continue like this. You understand. I don't like what I saw from you tonight."
Olivia held her, "My mom doesn't hug me anymore Aunt Liv. It's almost like she wants her own life. Ray hasn't done anything, but she loves him more than me. They've been so weird and I know something's up. You barely see me and you love me." Olivia looked at her, "I think your mom had you young and was handed the biggest shock learning about me and her father. I don't think she ever got to live, but I know she loves you. I think everyone needs a little break. Have you ever thought your behavior might be pushing her away. I want you to be better, ok."
When Ana stopped crying Olivia said, "We both need to get some sleep. We have a long flight tomorrow. "Can I sleep in here with you Aunt Liv? Olivia agreed and they fell asleep. Olivia woke up surprisingly early when she did get back to New York, she would be beat. After showering, changing, and packing, she woke Ana up. "Hey you. Time to get up." Ana stretched and quickly remembered she got her ass tore up last night. "Aunt Liv do you spank for every punishment." Olivia laughed, "Ohhhhh, do I have your attention?" Ana shook her head, "Yes." Olivia wanted to laugh, but didn't.
While Ana showered and got ready, Olivia went to sit with Ray and Carla. She tried asking them questions, because it was a weird situation. They were eating breakfast and Ana came in with her stuff. "Morning." Carla and Ray's head snapped up. Carla spoke, "Hi honey! Would you like breakfast?" Ana said, "Nope, not hungry." Ray chimed in, "Ana you should eat something." Then she heard Olivia say, "Fix her plate, she'll eat. Stop asking her what she wants." Ana was stubborn, always had been. She wasn't eating anything. Ray stood up seeing where this was going, "Olivia I'll put everything in the car. We should leave within the hour."
Carla started cleaning the kitchen and Olivia had enough. She leaned over and whispered, "You can eat breakfast or we can finish the punishment from last night." Ana started eating and Olivia helped Carla in the kitchen. When Ana was done she went to her room. Olivia found her sitting on her bed, "Is everything going to turn into a punishment with you. Ana I don't make threats, you do what's expected. I won't do this when we get home. It's time to go, please be respectful when you leave. I really shouldn't have to tell you but I will."
They all got into the car and headed to the airport. Once they were there and took care of check in curbside, it was time to say goodbye. Ray went first, "We will miss you Ana and as soon as we are settled in Vegas, we will make sure you guys have the address. Ana, you decide where you want to spend your birthday and we're there." She gave Ray a hug, that in itself was unusual. Carla went last, "Ana remember to do your schoolwork and submit everything. I made a deal with the school to finish out the year. They need it done by May in order to transfer your records for high school." Ana almost rolled eyes, but knew Olivia was looking, "Mom, I know. I promise I will. I love you and I'm sorry." She looked at Ray, "I'm sorry to both of you."
She hugged her mom goodbye and Olivia told her to go to Starbucks and get her favorite drink and a coffee for her. Carla seemed nervous, "Take care of her." Olivia smiled, "I will always." The day was long and the flight was longer. They were both dead tired when they got back around dinner time.
"Trevor! Thanks for coming to get us. This is my niece Ana. Ana, this is my boyfriend Trevor." Trevor smiled and helped them both with the bags, "Hey Ana! Nice to meet you. Have you ever been to New York?" Ana shook her head, "No, never. It's busy here." Trevor and Olivia agreed, "Yeah it is."
When they got to Olivia's place Ana was shocked, "I thought you were just a cop. I didn't know you would live in a place like this." Olivia laughed, "Thanks, what are you trying to say?" Ana hung her head, "I'm sorry Aunt Liv. I guess I meant...never mind." Olivia wrapped her arm under Ana's, "My mom left me her house which I sold, because it was too far from my job. She also left me with a very large insurance settlement and I'm a Sergeant cop." She gave her a wink, "Come on let's find your room."
Trevor dropped off the bags and gave Olivia a kiss on the lips, "Call me if you need anything. I love you." He looked at Ana who was staring, "Welcome to New York Ana." Trevor left and locked up. "Aunt Liv where does he live?" Olivia smiled, "Not too far away. I usually stay with him, but since I have you he's giving us some time. Are you going to act up with him too?" Ana shook her head no. "Where is your room?"
Olivia pulled her down the hall and turned on the light. "Right here. Go ahead you can look around. Ana my home is your home." Ana looked in the bathroom, "You have your own too Ana." Ana moved over to Olivia's couch, "Just my little sitting area to do work." She sat next to her sensing something was wrong, "I have some lasagna in the fridge. I was thinking we should shower, change, and eat. Do you have any questions?" Ana bit her lip, "If I need to come in here, can I? I mean if Trevor's not here." Olivia hugged her, "Ana you can come in here whenever you want, even if Trevor is here. I only asked one thing though, if the door is closed, knock first." Ana laughed, "Come on shower and dinner."
They both showered and changed. When Ana was done she opened her bedroom door and peeked out and looked both ways down the hall. Olivia's door was open, so Ana headed to the front area. She looked in the kitchen and around the open family room space. She walked over to the bookcases and saw pictures of her and her mom, her and Olivia, Trevor and Olivia. She saw some others, but didn't recognize them. She looked at the books and there were a lot of them. She read the authors, Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy, Charlotte Brontë, and Jane Austen. She picked up "Pride and Prejudice".
Those all belonged to my mother. She was an English professor at Hudson, then moved on to Columbia. "I like to read Aunt Liv." She put the book back, "Well read any book you'd like." She looked at the pictures, "Who are these people Aunt Liv?" Olivia pointed to the picture of her and her mother first, "That's me and my mom." Ana turned, "You look like her. My mom said she's not alive anymore." Olivia shook her head, "She isn't. We didn't have the best relationship, but she was still my mom. This is my best friend Alex, her husband Peter, and their daughter Amanda. They are ADA's so I work with them a lot. Amanda is your age. I'm sure you'll meet soon. Come on let's eat."
Olivia put some garlic bread in the oven, whipped up a quick salad, and heated the lasagna. "I know you aren't big on eating, but you need to eat. You are like a stick." Ana thought the plate was big, but tried to eat as much as she could. "So I wanted us back today because I have work on Monday. I talked to my Captain and you will come with me. We have an empty room for you to do your schoolwork." Ana was confused, "I don't need a babysitter. Why can't I stay here?" Olivia answered that with ease, "One, I'm not a babysitter, but since you will not be alone in this city, that can be arranged. Two, you won't stay here alone."
Ana pushed her plate away, and Olivia pushed it right back. "Don't start with me. You are smart, no way you thought I would let you run this city. Ana I have expectations and you need to follow them. You will be respectful to adults, do all your schoolwork, listen to me, and for right now you are earning trust. So if I go, you go. Got it?" Ana shook head, "Yes Aunt Liv. Can I go to bed now?" Olivia looked at her plate. "Yes, but you clean the kitchen Ana load the dishwasher."
Olivia went to her room and called Ray and Carla. She didn't get an answer. "Aunt Liv I'm done." Olivia looked at her, "No answer from your mom. Let me check your work, see how well you clean." The kitchen was spotless and the lights were out. "You did good." Olivia walked her to her room, tucked her in, and kissed her forehead. "I love you." Ana turned, "Love you too Aunt Liv."
Olivia went to her room, climbed into bed and called Trevor. "Hey! Don't tell me you need me already." Olivia smiled, "Thanks for giving us some time to settle in and dinner. Trevor this may not be just a summer." She started to explain how weird they were acting and how she couldn't reach them by phone already. Olivia listened for his reaction, "Liv she's your family and I want to be your family. She can stay forever." Olivia's heart felt warm, "I don't deserve you." They said I love you and goodnight.
Olivia was a light sleeper and heard a noise. She saw a light cut on then off. Then saw a shadow in her door, "Aunt Liv?" Olivia sat up, "What's wrong baby?" Olivia turned on the light, "I can't sleep." Olivia got up, "Do you want to sleep in here with me?" Ana shook her head, "No. I'm not dumb. I know Trevor comes here and I don't want to start something like that. Can you come into my room and sit with me until I fall asleep?" Olivia agreed, and went with her to her room. She held her and rubbed her hair, "One thing though, Trevor doesn't come here. He's never been in my bed. I go to his place." Ana laughed and fell fast asleep. Olivia returned to her room and everyone slept until morning.
