CALLISTA MIKAMI IS DEAD. Or at least she should be. She very clearly remembers dying and definitely remembers entering an Underworld of sorts, however, everything after that is a mystery to her. So when she wakes up very much alive and in a space that feels familiar but not quite, she doesn't know what to think.
Ending up in Camp Half-Blood with vague memories of what happened when she was dead was never a part of her plans (considering her plan was just to deal with what happens after death, she thinks that this may be a little better). To her it's just her luck; she's dead but not really in a world that's supposed to be fictional and back at the age of twelve.
Now she's stuck on a quest to the Underworld under the guise of helping Hecate restore the mist while trying to figure out what put her there in the first place. Of course, nothing can ever be easy when nothing is as it seems and there's someone actively trying to kill her, but what's new? If she's died once, who's to say she isn't ready to do it again.
Maybe second chances happen for a reason.
