Rain On Me
"Great. Just freaking awesome. Of course it had to rain when we didn't bring any umbrellas." Ray huffed as he, Norman and Emma stood in the door of their favorite bookstore, glaring at the darkened sky.
"The weather report said it was supposed to be sunny, all day. Guess this is one of those times where they were wrong." Norman shrugged from next to him.
"Guess we just gotta wait it out." Emma said only for an employee to approach them.
"I'm sorry but we're about to close so you can't stay here." he told them.
"What?! But you always close at 5:30!" Emma protested to which the man pointed at a clock on the wall above the register, showing it was 5:27.
"Huh. Time flies when you're having fun, I guess." she mussed.
"Doesn't change that we're gonna end up walking in the rain." Ray groaned, scratching the back of his head in frustration.
"There's a store around the corner that I think sells umbrellas and should at least be open for yet half an hour." the employee offered helpfully.
"Then we'll hurry there. Thank you." Norman smiled gratefully before grabbing both his boyfriend and girlfriend's hands.
Once outside the winced as they were right away assaulted by millions of drops of water.
"Come on! This way!" he called and they made a run for it.
When they reached the store they found it was honestly pretty tiny so while Norman and Ray went inside, Emma stayed in the doorway and waited for them.
Once inside the guys found there was sadly only one umbrella left.
"Guess it figures the rest it already sold out." Ray sighed as he payed the cashier.
"Look at it this way. Having only one umbrella means we get to huddle all close to each other." Norman jokingly hugged his arm and leaned his head on his shoulder, making the darker man blush.
"Tch. Get off me!" he said and roughly shoved the other away who just chuckled as they moved to rejoin Emma.
"Okay, so we got only one umbrella but the color is black so it doesn't look stupid and we can ad it to the ones we already have as an extra." Ray said when they reached her.
"And we can all cuddle under this one when going home~" Norman sang, playfully hugging Ray from behind.
They boy frowned and shared a look when she didn't react at all as she stared outside.
"Emma?" Ray called again, making her jump.
"Oh, hey guys! Sorry about that." she grinned sheepishly at them.
"What are you looking at?" Norman asked.
"That." she pointed outside and following her gaze they spotted a couple of kids playing in the rain, jumping in puddles and waving their arms to try and splash each other with raindrops.
Seeing Emma watching the children with a bright smile the guys shared another, this time fond, look.
After all, they knew how much Emma loved children.
After a while kids were called by a woman, most likely their mother or one of them and the kids ran to join her.
"Remember how we used to play in the rain back when we were kids?" Emma then asked, hitting them with a wave of nostalgia.
They had literally known each other for their whole lives and had always stuck together.
"Of course we do." Ray nodded with a small smile.
"We did always have fun." Norman agreed.
"I wanna do it again!" Emma then exclaimed, catching them off guard.
"Huh?"
"Let's play in the rain like we used to! Come on!" she cheered and ran into the rain, squealing as she spun around while the guys watched in shock.
"Emma, get back here!" Ray yelled, stepping outside and opening the umbrella to shield himself from the rain.
"No way! Why don't you guys join me? Come play!" she answered and Ray was about to retort when suddenly Norman ran past him.
"Norman?!" he gaped at seeing the normally most composed member of their trio jumping into a puddle next to Emma, splashing on her as she laughed.
"We can't beat her, Ray. Might as well join!" Norman grinned cheekily.
"Go on and let out your inner child again!" he called, dodging Emma when she tried to tackle him.
Ray shook his head at the display.
"Can't you just settle on watching Pokemon reruns? You're both gonna get sick! Especially you, Norman!"
"No worries! Moving around warms you up so it cancels out the cold!" Emma answered as Norman spun her around under his arm as he sang 'Singin' In The Rain'.
"That logic doesn't always work! You're body temperature is still going down!" Ray snapped, hal-annoyed and half-amazed at the ridiculousness.
"Wrong song! Too old-fashioned!" she lightly shoved Norman away, ignoring what Ray said.
"Then what is the right song?" he asked jokingly, not letting go of her hand.
"I'd rather be dry, but at least I'm alive~ Rain on me, rain, rain~ Rain on me, rain, rain~" she sang as she took both Norman's hands and forced him to dance.
"Hang on!" he took out him phone and placed the actual song, much to Emma's joy as she right away started dancing the moves while Norman awkwardly tried to copy her.
Ray sighed as he watched them.
What they were doing was stupid and childish but he couldn't help but smile.
Emma was a giant ball of excitement and innocence who was literally five at heart and often seemed to forget her actual age and Norman was usually more mature but always willing to try out things, especially if it made others (namely Emma and Ray) happy which in turn already made him happy.
They were ridiculous but Ray guessed he loved them because of their silly quirks.
Still, he knew they weren't gonna listen and join him under the umbrella as he watched Norman attempt to lift and spin Emma only to fail and have her lift him.
He decided to just rush home, knowing they'd follow him and finally go inside somewhere.
He turned them his back and started walking, a subtle grin forming at hearing them calling his name and running to catch up.
"A-ACHOO!"
"This is what you get got staying in the rain!" Ray scolded Norman who lay in bed with a cold.
"I'm really sorry." the white-haired man chuckled weakly, knowing the other was right.
"Nevermind... At least understand now..." Ray sighed, deciding not too rub it in too much.
After all, it was Emma who started the whole ordeal.
Speaking of which, as soon as he thought of the woman she walked into the room.
"The soup is almost done!" she announced before going to sit at the edge of the bed.
"I'm really sorry about this, Norman." she apologizes, carefully running a hand through his snowy hair.
"It's not your fault, Emma. In the end it was my own choice to join you." he gently shot her down.
"Still, it's unfair how you're the only one who got sick!" she protested when she suddenly sneezed.
There was a moment of silence.
"Come here." Ray said and put a hand on Emma's forehead before groaning.
"Looks like you're starting to get sick too. Go on! In bed with you!" he lifted the covers off Norman and shoved her on top of him, making Norman let out a small "Oof!".
Emma shifted to lay next to him and pulled the covers up with a giggle.
"Guess I spoke too soon." she snorted.
"Meaning I've now got two idiots to take care of. Stay here and I'll bring the soup when it's done." Ray sighed and went to leave only to freeze upon seeing the other two with matching pouts.
"What?"
"Aren't you gonna kiss us?" Emma whined, making him snort and roll his eyes.
"And risk getting sick myself? No way." he shot them down, resisting the urge to smack them when the pouts only grew.
"But affection heals the mind and if the mind is healthy..." Norman trailed off and Ray huffed.
"Fine." he huffed and seeing their victorious grins slapped his hands over their mouths and gave them both a peck on the forehead.
"There, you got your damn kisses and I'm not risking getting sick." he said, smirking when they pouted again.
"Now, I'll get you two your soup." he said and went towards the kitchen.
"And can we then have kisses on the mouth?" Emma's question stopped him in place.
He slowly ran his hands down his face with a groan.
"No, Emma. I already told you I'm not kissing your mouths and risk getting sick." he sighed, frowning when Norman chuckled.
Seeing the questioning look Norman smirked.
"Technically we already had a kiss on the mouth with you, albeit it being indirect. Those hands were just on our mouths and are now on yours~" he sang the last part, grinning when Ray's eyes went wide.
"Shit!" he cried before running off to wash his hands and mouth, ignoring the laughter that turned into couching he left behind.
