It felt like a day like any other. Jay had woken up early and after going for a run he took a shower and got ready to go to work.
He was full of energy. Going out for outdoor activities made him feel good. Breathing fresh air, being able to release tension, allowed him to better manage his PTSD.
He had made no exceptions that day. Awake at five, he always used to get up early in the morning, he had gone running for about an hour. When he got home at about 06:30 he had time to shower and get ready for work.
He was supposed to be in the office at eight and he often picked up his colleague before going there.
Yes, they agreed the night before on who should come and pick up the other one and bring breakfast.
The night before that day, however, he had not received any messages from Hayley in which he said she would come and pick him up. He had written to her late in the evening, but having received no reply he assumed that she had fallen asleep early that day.
He had seen her at the end of the day. She was exhausted.
He decided to come and get her anyway.
Yes he stopped at the detective's favorite bar and had two coffees and two freshly baked croissants, then continued on to his apartment.
Hayley's car was still parked in front of the building she lived in.
- She must have fallen asleep this morning,- Jay thought.
He took what he had bought and entered the building and went up the stairs to the third floor.
He rang the door several times, but received no response.
He took the service key, and entered the house.
He knew where she kept the key, they had both given their secret places just in case.
Everything was dark inside. There was nobody.
What was going on?
Why couldn't he find her?
He picked up the phone and started calling her. Nothing, no answer.
His colleague had disappeared into thin air.
He closed everything and headed for the car to go to work.
He was worried, he hoped to get to her district and find her there ready to apologize for not telling him.
Arriving at the office he placed breakfast on his partner's desk and being early began to tidy up some documents that had remained on his desk the day before.
Shortly thereafter, all his colleagues gradually arrived and they too got to work.
They had had a busy week in the field and were left behind with paperwork.
Meanwhile, time passed and no trace of Hayley. She hadn't arrived at work.
