The two were now grown up, Will had recently turned 24, Jay 20. No one believed that their family would grow, despite the fact that the mother had had children when she was very young.
Alice, that was her name, was born when her mother was 42. Nobody expected it since she and her husband, a gruff man addicted to drinking, didn't get along very well.
