It's no secret that Reggie loves the ladies. All of them. I mean, why would he limit himself to one type of girl, or even to only one? He's never understood Luke's lack of interest after the initial round of flirting. Does he not see all the beauty around them? Most girls like guys who are in bands, especially really good ones like theirs. Music is one thing, but girls… Girls are another. And Alex preferring guys? He can't even begin to wrap his mind around that one, but Alex is his friend, his brother – he'd die for the guy… if he wasn't already a ghost, that is – and if Alex isn't interested in the ladies, it just means there are more for him to pursue. It's a win, win.
That said, Julie is an exception. Julie is more like a friend, or a little sister, given the affinity he feels to her dad. Not to mention it's obvious that, despite past history, Luke is totally into her, and he's not going to step on his friend's toes. That goes completely against his code.
He brings it up one day while they are rehearsing. Alex is in a mood, something having to do with Willie, so after saying something to cheer him up, he decides the best way to get their drummer focused on the music is to move his attention to something else. Like Luke and Julie.
And he's right. As soon as Luke says, "What's that supposed to mean?", Alex smiles, and he knows his brilliant plan worked. He smiles at Alex, relieved to see him flash back a grin while Luke gets adorably defensive.
Then suddenly, Luke is standing in front of him, looking into his eyes, singing softly to him. And he can't look away. He feels his pulse – or what would be his pulse if he were alive – quicken, his breathing become more shallow, his face get warmer. Luke puts a hand to the back of his neck, and he can see the flecks of blue and gold in his friend's hazel eyes.
He almost forgets to breathe.
He stands there for a moment dazed as Alex says something he can't quite hear.
The first words he can make come out of his mouth are, "That was pretty hot." He hears his voice squeak and realizes for a moment, he would love for Luke to do that again. To focus all his attention on him and let the world fall away.
Then Luke steps back, puts three fingers from his right hand to his own lips, kisses them, and presses them against his - Reggie's -mouth before stepping away.
It's all he can do not to lick his lips to see if he can taste Luke on them.
To cover up his confusion, he loudly clears his throat, and says, "Girls… Am I right?"
Luke says, "Yeah," and puts his guitar strap back over his shoulder.
Alex gives him a fond look and another smile. "No."
And for the first time, Reggie knows what he means.
