This is a different, darker version of my "A New Generation." Explanation inside in notes.
Shortly after Kyo, Tohru & the rest of that generation passed away, the Zodiac Curse returned—& this time, it seems there's no hope to breaking it.
The family's only chance at living a semi-normal life & to be able to love & hug someone outside of the curse, is finding a missing link—finding Kyo & Tohru's 1 & only great, great, great, great grandchild—who happens to be a young girl.
While most of the family want to find the girl so that they can find love & live a somewhat normal life—perhaps outside of the family, there are others who want the girl for different reasons.
What happens when 1 member falls for the girl? Will she return his feelings?
I DO NOT OWN FRUITS BASKET OR ANY OF ITS CHARACTERS! I ONLY CLAIM THE STORY & CHARACTERS I CREATE
As most of you know, I'm a spaz. With the original version, I have a plan set in stone that I want to go & continue with. However I've got these ideas creeping in that would change where I want to take "A New Generation." So, instead of destroying that, I've just decided to do a different version with these new ideas & see where it goes. Some names will change & others will stay the same. This will be darker & include descriptions of rape, attempted rape, forced sex, incest, murder.
Over one hundred thirty years ago, an ordinary orphan girl named Tohru Honda stumbled upon the Sohma Family's family secret:
Thirteen members were cursed with the twelve animals of the Chinese Zodiac—plus the cat.
As she got to know them, it wasn't difficult for Tohru to realize that all the members were kind, but all had their own personalities. Even Akito, who was the family head and the God of the curse, was kind; she just had a shit deal.
It took roughly two and a half/three years, but Tohru was able to break and free everyone from the curse. They were finally able to live every day, happy lives—even Kyo, the cat. He got his happily ever after with Tohru, two sons, one daughter, and several grandchildren.
However, roughly seventy years ago—give or take, all the previously cursed members passed away—Hiro and Kisa being the last two. And two years after that, the curse once again reared its ugly head—this time with a newly added twist: a child was born with several powerful psychic abilities.
Of course, the family had heard about the curse—and most believed the stories. There were plenty of nonbelievers as well. However, the nonbelievers soon became believers when the first child born cursed as a Zodiac member turned into their cursed animal.
Several non-cursed members of that generation—and the generation before were thrilled—especially the maids. The curse was the best thing to ever happen to their family—again.
The first generation back to be cursed became a sideshow attraction—even said, God—and the psychic.
A few of the family members at the time, who weren't cursed, saw nothing but money when they looked at the members cursed with the Zodiac animals, God, and now a powerful psychic.
Once they figured out how it all worked, the non-cursed members allowed random people to come up and hug the cursed family members.
Sadly, the cursed members at the time, couldn't do anything because they were looked down upon. They tried begging with the people—saying they were people too. However, it was a wasted effort; people wouldn't listen and just laughed and pushed them away or down.
After some time, some of the cursed members committed suicide before "their master" found out.
Only their God, the psychic, dragon, cat, rat, dog, rooster, rabbit, cow, boar, and snake remained.
The ones who remained made a pact to never have this happen again; they swore that only family would ever know their secret.
They took all the money they so rightfully earned and moved back to where Tohru Honda broke the curse, hoping they could break it again. Well, all but Akihiro, "God." He wanted to keep the family together—forever and not have outside interference or help.
Even though the bank was trying to repossess the estate because nobody lived there in years, it never left the family. As soon as the remaining members moved home, Akihiro was able to keep it and kept it in the family.
After so long, Akihiro started becoming increasingly agitated, possessive, and reckless.
All the remaining members saw this—but none more so than Kiko, their family psychic. She ended up suffering the worse of his wrath because she was so pure-hearted, and he was not.
A few years go by, and Akihiro meets a woman called Risa; she was just as wicked as he. However, her wickedness comes from greed and working her way into the family fortune. But several years after that, she has their son, Akihito, who Akihiro would raise to be just like him—to a certain degree.
Risa did not want to name her son Akihiro; she wanted to name him Kai. Akihiro beat her senseless until she agreed with the name he wanted.
When Akihito was five, Akihiro murdered his mother and several of the others.
That's where Kiko's punishment came in. Akihiro couldn't kill her because if he killed the family psychic, he would be severely reprimanded; she was not to die.
After so long, the remaining members of the curse couldn't take it anymore, and Kiko helped them to escape—or she tried. Only the dragon, cat, rat, dog, rooster, cow, and rabbit were able to escape.
Akihiro first killed the snake, Nami, by skinning her alive. He then hunted down the boar, Hikaru, and hung him on his wall.
Kiko was unable to escape as Akihiro found and captured her. He kept her locked in the basement and repeatedly raped her until she gave up hope—which never happened. She had miscarried a few times, but that's because Akihiro beat her so much.
This went on until Kiko's lover, Kohaku—who was the dragon, and the others came to her rescue.
After that, Kiko was closest and felt the most connected to the dragon (Kohaku), the cat (Haku), the rat (Maya), the dog (Mamoru), the rooster (Kage), the rabbit (Mika/Miki), and the cow (Junpei). She promised that no matter what was to happen, they would once again be reincarnated and reunited in the future—and when that happened, they would be immortal.
Kiko could not give immortality to herself or others of her generation. Still, she could put it on themselves and pass it to a deserving reincarnation.
Even the other future of Zodiac members of that same generation would receive immortality—except for whoever was cursed as the God. Unless whoever was condemned as the God was the exact opposite of Akihiro, he/she would not receive immortality. If God is pure-hearted—or can become good-hearted, he/she could gain immortality.
Months went by, and all was good—until it wasn't, and tragedy struck:
Akihiro found and killed Maya, poisoning her with mass amounts of rat poison.
Mika/Miki was found beheaded. Mika/Miki, by the way, was one person but had (two) multiple personalities. It was said that when Mika/Miki was born, they were supposed to be twins, but one didn't make it, and they just fused into one person.
After that, because Kiko was with child—and Akihiro out on a killing spree, Haku, Mamoru, Kage, and Junpei moved in with Kiko and Kohaku and promised to protect her and her unborn child. And while they lived there, because Kiko was the family's psychic, Akihiro couldn't do anything to them, sending him into a rage.
Three Years Later:
Screw the rules and what prophecies or whatever say: Akihiro killed:
Haku by hitting him with a car and repeatedly running him over.
Kage and Junpei and turned them into food.
That's actually how police and Akihito found Akihiro; he was eating Kage and Junpei burgers.
Well, police were going to arrest him but Akihito, (who was nine at the time) took a fire poker and repeatedly stabbed his father over and over and over again until police pulled him away.
Because of all his father did and everything, Akihito was sent to a juvenile detention center and released when he was twenty-one, where he met his wife.
But I digress.
Kiko, Kohaku, and Mamoru were the only ones left now. Kiko and Kohaku had a daughter they named Kaia. After some random drug addict brutally murdered them, Mamoru, being Kaia's godfather, raised her as his own. He passed away of old age a year and a half before this generation's dog was born.
Kaia later married and had two kids of her own—a boy and a girl: Kage & Sara—both referring to Mamoru as "Grandpa."
Kage turned out to be gay, married, and then adopted a few kids.
Sara disappeared and hasn't been seen by the family in nearly fourteen years. It was unclear what she was having, but Sara was with child.
After a few generations, the family was informed that the curse would never be broken this time. However, there was still hope for a semi-normal life.
While the curse can't be broken, it can be lessened: all they have to do is find Sara's child; she's the key.
The child won't know what to do but does know of their abilities. All that has to happen is that the child must be found and brought into the family.
It shouldn't be that hard to find out who the child is: he or she will have a special mark on their wrist and lower back. The mark will be of the crescent moon and the star next to it.
This is where our new story begins…
