Marooned: Lost Heroes
An overseas field trip turns into an interstellar disaster as Class 1-A finds themselves stranded on a dangerous, bizarre alien planet. Without knowing how to get back home to Earth and scattered around the globe, the class must contend with the strange environments, deadly creatures, and long-lost secrets that this world holds.
Well here it is, my MHA story that the polls suggested I write. I've been wanting to do something like this for a while now, and since I've been writing these types of stories for some time I think I can manage it. A fair warning however; the kids aren't going to have a good time here. This is an unknown, untouched world for them and it sure as hell not a forgiving place for youngsters.
Their survival skills are going to be put to the ultimate test, so don't think that they're just gonna be relaxing in bikinis and swim suits under the sun the whole time like what you've seen in other anime before. There's going to be a fair amount of creature violence, mystery and general terror.
Now, let us begin...
Unknown location...
The gentle waves lapped the gold-white sandy shores in tandem. A breeze from the endless blue sea beyond rustled branches on the large, conifer-like trees planted some distance away from the shoreline, their long thin leaves shaking in the wind. The forest surrounding the beach soaked in the shining rays of the sun above, and an insect resembling a translucent dragonfly landed on a patch of green that had just sprouted at the edge of the water, taking a moment to clean its limbs of any accumulated grime.
But this was no plant for it to rest its wings. Actually, it wasn't a plant at all.
The dragonfly creature felt its newfound roost stir, and so it took off back to the safety of the forest.
As he felt his senses return to him, Izuku Midoryia, a student of U.A. High School and a proud member of Class 1-A, opened his eyes to see that he was lying down on a tropical beach. He could feel the cool ocean water through his soaked clothes, and the taste of salt on his tongue from the waves touching his unconscious, open mouth. The warmth of the sun warmed the skin on the back of his neck and arms. Now awake, the ninth wielder of the mighty quirk (his superpower) One For All slowly stood up to his feet in the shoreline, using his aching limbs to push himself off of where he lay face-down in the sand to take a moment and scan the surrounding area.
"W-Where..." He mumbled, his sore throat feeling like he had swallowed a fistful of sand, "Where am I?"
He took a step forward, but a sudden sharp pain in his knee almost caused him to fall back down. The green-haired boy cast his eyes down to his right leg and saw that there was a long, bleeding cut on his kneecap. It wasn't that deep, but the saltwater he was formerly resting in must have soaked the wound. Clad in only his sneakers, a pair of shorts and a t-shirt, Izuku had no supplies to treat the wound, but he had to do something to at least protect it from the open air.
Using a fraction of his power, Izuku grabbed the sleeve of his shirt and yanked, ripping it clean off before he used it to wipe the wound of any leaking blood. After a few moments of dabbing the injury he tied it around his knee, forming a makeshift bandage.
"Agh..." The teen hissed as he took a short step forward to test his joints. The pain had lessened, but not vanished. He figured he could deal with it as he turned around to meet the ocean, putting a hand over his eyes to shield himself from the glare of the sun to see where he had awoken. From where he was standing, he could make out several rocky outcrops jutting from the sea beyond the shoreline, varying in their sizes from several hundred feet high to others just barely poking from the surface of the water. Large islands decorated the horizon, with the largest gifted with a conical volcano pumping out ash-gray smoke into the air. There was a sparse amount of clouds overhead as well, yet on the horizon lay a large, billowing storm. He could faintly hear the rumble of thunder and the clashes of lightning, and he wondered if it was coming his way.
He didn't recognize this environment at all, though. Wherever this place was, it surely wasn't Japan, or anywhere else he'd been. A glimmer of something to his left caught his eye from below, and some feet away washed in the sand was a hunk of metal, a piece of carbon fiber colored white.
Upon seeing it, however, Izuku's memory suddenly flashed to life as he remembered everything that happened to him, and his class, before he woke up...
Some time ago...
"Please remember to fasten your seatbelts as we prepare to take off! A reminder to all passengers to avoid using cellular devices before the plane leaves the airport..."
The constant droning of the mechanical flight attendant spoke to the twenty students currently sitting in the large propeller plane resting in the airport gate of the Tokyo International Airport. From his window seat Izuku Midoryia spied several other planes on the runway or sitting aside like them. The teenage hero-in-training was as excited as can be. He'd been on planes before, such as his visit to I-Island with All Might, but never to visit another country!
He and the rest of Class 1-A had been granted a wonderful opportunity from All Might himself to take a much needed vacation, and nowhere else but to the American state islands of Hawaii. To say that the class had been ecstatic would do them no justice. The green-haired boy distinctly remembered Mina Ashido practically squealing and jumping out of her seat in unbridled joy, and the rest of the class had cheered too. They desperately needed something like this. Between harsh classes, endless villain attacks and brutal tests from Aizawa, Class 1-A desperately needed a long, refreshing break to soothe their minds and bodies.
A week in Hawaii would do them all wonders. Sunny beaches, warm waters and American banquets awaited for them all, and Izuku couldn't wait. Over the endless loud clamoring inside the jet from his classmates and friends, Izuku found himself in his own wondering world of what Hawaii would be like.
"What're you thinking about, Izuku?" The person sitting next to him asked, who just so happened to be Ochako Uraraka, one of his best friends at U.A. Just like him, she too was excited for this field trip. The gravity-wielding girl, complete with her long brown bangs and a simple white hoodie, had just finished sending her parents a goodbye text before she turned to the boy next to her.
"Oh, nothing really. Just thinking the trip we're going on," He responded to her, "Are you ready to spend a week outside of Japan?"
"Of course I am! I'm pumped up!" Ochako vibrantly gave a fist-pump to the ceiling. She lowered it as he continued talking, now sounding a little melancholic. "Though if I'm being honest, I don't think I've ever gone on a vacation before, nonetheless one where I'm going to America of all places. My family couldn't really afford going anywhere for extended periods, so I'm gonna make the best of it with my friends!"
"You're not the only one!" A lecherous voice called from overhead, and the two turned their attention where they saw Mineta Minoru in all of his purple ball-headed glory peeking his head over their seats, a wide grin on his face. "Going to America has been only a dream of mine! Imagining all of those hot, juicy American babes just sitting in the sun, beckoning for me to join them-!"
That was as far as he got before a long, rubbery tongue wrapped around his face and dragged him back to his seat, with Mineta letting out a shocked squeal as he was yanked backwards. A couple surprising seconds later and another face popped up from where he formerly was.
"Sorry about that." Tsuyu Asui said in her monotone, the frog-quirked girl giving her apologies. "I'll try to keep him contained for the rest of the flight."
"Thank you, Tsu."
"Everyone, listen up!" The voice of Tenya Iida, their Class Representative and a stickler for the rules, stood up from his front seat with his usual arm gestures as he spoke loudly and clearly to the rest of his class. "We'll be departing shortly from the gate! Make sure your carry-ons are safely tucked away and seatbelts securely fastened. As Class 1-A we are to carry the incredible legacy of U.A. overseas as best as we can, even if it is a vacation! That being said, I sincerely hope that we all have as much fun as we can! Our flight to Hawaii is over six hours long, so it'll be some time before we land at the state."
"Over six hours?! Oh man, I'm gonna be so damn bored back here!" Denki Kaminari exasperatedly shouted from his seat all the way in the back before Kyoka Jirou jabbed him with her earphone jacks, knocking him back down to his seat.
"Quiet down, numbskull!" She hissed at him. "You're being rude!"
"Yes, well," Iida pushed his glasses back up his face after Kaminari had been silenced, "While the trip is indeed lengthy, rest assured that this is the only major hurdle we face today. Once we land on the island we'll be taking a bus over to our five-star hotel, unpack our luggage and officially begin our seven days off!"
The class couldn't help but cheer after Iida had finished. The mood was contagious, and everyone was once again feeling the rush of excitement. Even Iida was smiling as he returned to his seat and the plane began to leave the gate. Izuku made sure to leave some room for Ochako to peer through the window, looking outside at the night sky above. Leaving Heights Alliance for the dorms had been quick at around late afternoon, but the sun had gone down just as fast. Based on what Iida said, Izuku guesstimated that they would arrive at the islands of Hawaii by morning. A full six hours in the dark air over the Pacific.
Izuku and Ochako shared a smile once their plane neared the runway, and their vacation officially went underway...
...
"We were going to Hawaii," Izuku said to himself as he put a hand over the piece of wreckage, his foggy memories slowly clearing up. At that moment he snapped his head over to the surge on the horizon, suddenly remembering another key detail with his eyes going wide, "And there was a storm!"
...
Several hours overseas, and the plane had gone quiet. While the start of the trip was filled with excitement, the long hours flying over the ocean had slowly driven each of the students to pass the time with other methods. Most of them, however, had just gone to sleep with the blankets and pillows offered by the robotic stewards. Izuku was not one of them. The boy had plugged in his headset to the screen in front of him while he watched an old American movie about cowboys and aliens. It wasn't the best nor the worst movie he'd seen, it was just a way to keep his mind from getting bored. Uraraka was slumbering next to him, her head resting on his shoulders.
He wouldn't dare move, but Izuku's bladder was demanding release after he'd downed three bottles of water and coke.
"Gotta go, sorry Ochako." Izuku gently pried Ochako's head off his shoulder. She let out a tired whine, but complied with her friend's request as he shuffled his way out of his seat and into the corridor. He made his way down the aisle, taking in the sights and sounds of his classmates. Mina and Kirishima were openly snoring, quite loudly too, much to the chagrin of Sero and Tokoyami, who were desperately trying to find some sleep themselves. Even Bakugou, who had managed to score a row all to himself, was slumbering away. Koda was busy looking at the many animal pictures he had on his phone, and Sato was munching on some granola bars as he gazed out the window.
All in all, it was normal. Peaceful, even.
They wouldn't guess that it would all change very quickly, and quite violently too.
The moment Izuku finished up and stepped out of the bathroom he noticed through one of the passenger windows that the night sky had been replaced with the wet streaks and gray, cloudy skies. At first he didn't think anything of it, just a change of scenery that the plane was passing through. Right as he made it halfway to his seat, however, the plane shuddered slightly. It was completely unexpected as Izuku nearly fell into Hagakure's lap before he caught himself with the overhand compartments, startled and a bit alarmed at what nearly happened. What was going on outside?
"Attention all passengers, please be advised; we are hitting some slight turbulence. For your immediate safety, please return to your seat." The autopilot announced from the loudspeakers. Izuku made a break for his seat quickly after hearing that, gently squeezing his way in his seat while Ochako rubbed her eyes open.
"Deku? What's going on?" She groggily asked, using the boy's famous nickname.
"Oh, just some turbulence Ochako." He replied. "We'll be fine. Don't worry."
As if the world had heard him, the entire cabin suddenly shook with great force, rocking the students back and forth for several terrifying seconds before it stopped. By the time it was over everyone was wide awake, their blankets and pillows spilled out into the corridor along with some of their carry-ons. The lights above flickered on and off, and in the darkness of the plane Izuku managed to catch flashes of lightning outside the cabin while he and Uraraka clung to their seats. They must have mistakenly flown into a storm on the way there. He could hear the loud thunderclaps raging in the clouds over the panicked clamor of his classmates.
"What's going on?!"
"Did we just hit a storm?"
"That was some gnarly turbulence, you guys!"
"Everyone please remain calm!" Iida shouted, trying his best to soothe his startled friends. "This is only temporary! Do not panic! We'll pass through the storm without much trouble-!"
Right as he was in the middle of talking, as if defying the boy's words, the storm unleashed a series of great thunderbolts that struck the aircraft hull, causing the lights to flicker on and off as the plane shook wildly this time around. Both Izuku and Uraraka clenched their eyes shut as fear overtook them and their friends as they felt the sensation of weightlessness as the plane lilted and banked downwards. There was another sound too, the scream of the planes engines failing over the crash of thunder. Izuku peeked his right eye open and witnessed to his horror that the engine under the right wing had caught fire.
It was then, that Izuku realized with great terror, that the plane was falling out of the sky.
"WE'RE ALL GONNA DIEEEE!" He heard Mineta wail behind him, followed by the screams of many other terrified souls.
"Everyone brace yourselves for a crash landing!" Iida roared as loud as he could over the storm and failing engines.
"DEKU?!" The green-haired boy could hear the fear in Uraraka's voice, turning his vision to see her eyes wide open and full of fright as more lightning flashed through the storm surrounding them. The interior of the plane had gone dark as the power went off. His hand found hers, and he gripped it with all the strength he could muster.
"Whatever you do, don't let go of me! I'm right here!" Izuku shouted, trying his best to hide his own fear. Had this been any other situation he'd be a stuttering, blushing mess if he felt Uraraka's hand in his, but this was a completely new situation. Both of them clung to their seats and each other for dear life as the plane continued on its death knell, shaking and screaming the whole way down on what was supposed to be a normal flight. Through their clenched eyes they could barely see the bright lightning strikes piercing their eyelids, and the terrified cries of their friends as they plummeted to the ocean below.
The last thing Izuku remembered before they crashed into the water was a sudden, thundering crack, almost like a cannon firing, followed by the sensation of him jerking forward once they hit the surface.
And then darkness.
Izuku felt bile begin to crawl up his throat as he remembered what happened to him and his friends, and what he could only assume was a fatal crash into the ocean. The sensation of sheer grief, and the possibility that he was the only one still alive out of all his friends and classmates, people he had cared for deeply, struck him deeply as any wound could. He let out a choked sob, tears spilling out onto the small piece of wreckage as he tried desperately to hold back the waterworks, but he couldn't. Everyone he knew on that plane was more than likely dead, their remains lost to the ocean, leaving him on some deserted island as the last survivor of Class 1-A.
All the memories they shared together, and the experiences they had as a class, were now snuffed out thanks to a misplaced storm. At the moment, Izuku was completely on his own on what appeared to be uncharted land in the middle of the ocean. As he let out his sorrow, he came to realize that he needed to be strong for himself and to honor his fallen friends. He was in the middle of wiping his eyes clear of tears when a sudden sensation of optimism came to his mind, for if he had survived the crash then surely other members of 1-A surely had survived the crash as well.
"Hello!" He called out as loud as he can, cupping his hands around his mouth to add volume. He hoped that someone would answer him. "Is there anybody out there! I'm here!"
"Deku?!"
And soon enough, like a prayer being answered, a very familiar voice called out his name from behind him. He turned around to see none other than Ochako emerge from behind a large tree, looking about as disheveled as he was. Her casual clothes had been slightly torn up, and there was a small cut on her temple, but otherwise she was fine. Izuku could feel a fresh wave of tears coming on, this time out of sheer happiness that his hopes had been fruitful.
"URARAKA!"
"DEKU!"
The two cried out, running as fast as the could to each other and embraced with a mighty hug. They couldn't help but let out relieved, joyful laughter, especially for Izuku since he had almost convinced himself that he was the only one alive. Seeing Ochako standing there was all the hope he needed.
"Oh my gosh, Izuku! I-I thought you were dead!" Ochako squealed into his shoulder, relieved that her bestie had lived. "I woke up, and I was all alone! I-I thought... I thought everyone was gone, but you're here!"
"I'm so happy to see you're okay as well, Uraraka!" Izuku gently laughed, so incredibly happy that at Ochako had survived.
After a good while of hugging their fear away they let go of each other, and Ochako turned her attention to the fragment of the plane that she and her friend had once been inside of, the one that Izuku had been mentally recollecting with. It only seemed to sadden her, for as far as they knew, the only ones still kicking were her and Izuku. Everyone else, well, who knows. But soon that despair inside her turned to hope as she turned to her friend.
"Do you think anybody else made it?" She asked, wishing for an answer.
"If we made it, then so did they. Right now we should try to find anyone else. There could be more survivors around here, so we better start looking." Izuku replied, taking a moment to look around the beach and the forest as well. He couldn't see anything from where he stood in front of the thick woodland that he and Ochako currently were. But when he turned his eyes to his right further down the beach, he could see a trail of smoke trailing into the sky above. From the shape of the beach and where he and Ochako were standing, it was coming from around a bend down the shoreline. The two survivors shared a look and nodded at each other before they ran down the beach towards the smoke trail.
As they ran, they passed by more and more pieces of the plane until they came across where the smoke had originated. It was the plane itself, or at least what remained of it. The aircraft was halfway beached and wrecked beyond repair, its cockpit smashed open and the body was cleaved in two with bits of metal, leather chairs and electrical wires scattered all around the beach. Luggage and other personal belongings which had once been in the cargo hold were strewn all over the sand, along with soaked pamphlets telling information about Hawaii. One of the wings was still barely attached, and Izuku could see the other resting on one of the outcrops far away from the shoreline. It was a sad sight to behold.
It was in the wreckage, among the metal fragments and large algae-covered stones, that Izuku and Ochako saw a moving mop of dark green hair poking out from behind the torn-off landing gear. Only one person they knew had that kind of hair.
"Hey!" Ochako yelled as loud as she could, putting her hands next to her mouth. "Is that you, Tsu!"
The welcoming face of Tsuyu Asui popped out from the wreckage once she heard a familiar voice yell out to her. Like her friends she too had been hurt by the crash, with her bright blue and green clothes having some wear and tear to them. There were some scuff marks on her forehead, probably from hitting her head on something, but she was otherwise as well as can be. Both Izuku and Ochako let out light, excited gasps the moment they saw Tsuyu make herself known.
Once the frog-quirked girl saw the other two survivors standing there at the edge of the beach, she felt a surge of relief wash over her.
"Look, it's Ochako and Izuku!" She said to someone behind her, pointing at her friends.
"No way, lemme see!" Another voice they recognized shrieked close by to Tsu, and Minoru Mineta came around her legs to see for himself. Like Tsuyu, he was worse for wear. His deep yellow shirt had a large tear that exposed his stomach, and he had a cut on his left temple. The moment he saw them the grape-haired boy let loose a cry of joy, tears spewing out of his eyes like fountains. "We're not alone out here, Tsu! We're saved!"
Izuku and Ochako rushed over to meet their friends, and Tsuyu and Mineta did the same as they scurried over pieces of wreckage and mossy boulders. Both girls hugged each other while the two boys, thanks to the height difference, merely held hands. All four of them were grateful to see that at least some others of Class 1-A had managed to escape the crash in one piece.
"Oh, Tsu! Words can't describe how happy were are to see you!" Ochako said.
"Ribbit!"
"IZUKU! You're alive! I was so worried about everyone being dead!" Mineta wailed as fresh tears streamed down his face, the short-statured boy overwhelmed with relief that his good friend had made it in one piece.
"It's okay, Mineta! We're here to help!" He responded, putting his hands up to try and calm Mineta down.
"Speaking of help," Tsuyu spoke up as she separated from Ochako, taking a glance to share a look between the two new arrivals, "There's a good chance we'll be stuck here until we get rescued, so we'll have to find some supplies in the meantime. Mineta and I were scavenging what we could recover from the downed plane before you two arrived. We managed to get some food out from one of the compartments that wasn't waterlogged, just some snacks and bottled water. There's bound to more in places, so we should check them out."
"Y-Yeah, but how long are we gonna be stuck out here? We're gonna be rescued, right?" Mineta worriedly asked as he wiped his eyes. He had a good reason for his worry, as being stranded on a deserted island was not part of the vacation he wanted. Who knows where the four of them were on the map.
"Who knows, really. We could be out here for days, weeks even." Tsuyu said, ever bluntful.
"Weeks?! We won't last for that long!"
"Not unless we find whatever resources we can from the wreckage. There might be a radio we can use to try and call for help."
"You're right, Tsu. Let's see if we can find any more supplies on the plane before we make camp." Ochako readily agreed with a nod. It was a smart move for them to see what they can scrounge up from the wreckage before they huddled up for a long haul. From the looks of things, it was going to be a good while before any sort of rescue came around. That, and with the storm in the distance getting closer to them, finding sustenance and shelter was as of right now a top priority.
"Man, this bites," Mineta grumbled, "Stuck on some stupid island in the middle of the ocean, just my luck. And this certainly doesn't look like Hawaii. No babes at all."
"Hey, it could be much worse than it is Mineta." Izuku said.
"Oh yeah, and how so?"
"We're not dead, for one." Tsuyu piped in as blunt as ever. Izuku awkwardly rubbed the back of his head, and Mineta had no comeback for that quip, so he kept quiet.
As the four highschool kids headed over to the wreckage to look for more goods, Ochako briefly glanced to the seas thinking that she had seen something out of the corner of her eyes among the waves. It was only when she stopped and did a double-look back out to the waters that she realized she had in fact seen something floating out in the distance, probably a good two hundred or so feet away, gently pushed along by the current.
"Hey guys," Ochako put a hand on Asui's shoulder to stop the group from walking away, "Tell me if I'm wrong, but I think I see someone out there!"
"Where, over in the water?" Tsuyu asked.
"Yeah, over there! I swore I saw something near that rock!" Ochako pointed to where she had seen her supposed object of interest, and Izuku stepped forward with a hand above his eyes to get a better look. The moment he was able to clearly what it was, he let out a startled gasp.
"It's Shoji!" Izuku cried out, after which he spied a torn, soaked shirt clinging to the six-armed lad that was somehow floating next to him. "And Hagakure's with him!"
"HEEEY! WE'RE OVER HERE! HELP US!" They heard the invisible girl cry out from the water over the wind and seas. Despite her body not being visible, they could tell she was waving her arms wildly to try and get their attention once she spotted them. Shoji, however, remained unnervingly silent as he floated face-up on the surface not moving a muscle. The four on the beach shared an unsettled, concerned look after they heard Toru cry out for help.
"W-We gotta do something! We can't just leave them out there!" Mineta said, eager to help his friends. "Oh man where's a life jacket when you need one?!"
"Tsu!" Izuku cried out, knowing that she was the best swimmer out of their entire class.
"I'm on it!" Tsuyu acknowledged her friend as she made a dash towards the water, leaping off one of the rocks right into the blue depths towards the stranded duo. Despite not having any of her protective gear, namely her eye goggles, Tsuyu could still manage to somewhat see while swimming in the salt water. It was quite clear, and from what she could see deeper down the coastline there was a large, multicolored reef stretching out for hundreds of feet and filled with all sorts of aquatic life, such as fish and squid-like animals. But observing the local environment wasn't important right now, for she had two of her friends to rescue. With swift, powerful kicks skimming just below the surface she eventually managed to reach Shoji and Hagakure, breaching just a few feet away from them.
Yet, if she had looked down at the reef just a little longer, she would have seen a massive black shape pass directly under her. And it seemed to have noticed her as well.
"Hang on you two!" Back on the surface, the frog-quirked girl launched her extendable tongue out to grab hold of the two sea-faring teens. She coiled her long tongue around Shoji's waistline securely, with Hagakure grabbing hold of it before Tsuyu turned around and prepared to tug them to the beach.
"Hurry, Tsu!" Hagakure cried out. "I think Shoji's hurt real bad! He's not breathing!"
With that grim bit of news in mind, Tsuyu gave what energy she still had to her legs and started to swim as fast as she could, preforming her usual breaststroke to hurry back to the beach. She was making good progress before she noticed that Izuku, Ochako and Mineta were jumping up and down on the beach, yelling and pointing at something she couldn't see. And they looked quite scared, too. Neither Hagakure nor Tsuyu could make out what they were yelling, but it sounded dire. For a moment, Tsuyu slowed herself down to try and hear the two on the beach. Their voices were muffled thanks to the distance between them and the shore, and the gentle splashes of the waves around her and her rescuees.
"Are they yelling at us for something?" Hagakure wondered.
"Maybe there's someone else out here we missed," Tsu added on, stopping herself completely to hear better.
There was a brief lapse in the ocean that finally allowed them to listen, and what was coming out of their mouths chilled their spines.
"SHARK! BEHIND YOU!"
Tsuyu and Hagakure both turned their heads to see a large, onyx-purple fin jutting at least a meter high out of the water, followed by an equally sized one of the same coloration, the telltale signs of an incoming shark. The animal was heading right towards them, and it was coming in fast. Both of the girls watched in terrified fright at what they were seeing before Hagakure managed to snap out of her fear and shriek at the top of her lungs.
"Go, Tsu! GO!" The invisible girl screamed for dear life as the fin narrowed the distance between them at a harrowing speed. Tsuyu didn't need to be told twice as she kicked herself into overdrive, swimming as fast as she could back towards the safety of the beach. She didn't dare look back, lest she be more terrified than she was right now. She could feel her legs and arms beginning to tire, but she dare not falter now. The girl was fast, but the shark was steadily narrowing the gap.
"Oh my god, oh my god!" Toru whimpered, memories of binge-watching all of those awful shark-focused horror movies rolling in her mind, all while she watched helplessly as the shark got closer and closer, so much so that she could begin to make out its enormous dark-colored body just beneath the surface. The invisible girl kept a tight hand on Shoji. Thankfully once Tsuyu had reached the shallows just in time, the aquatic predator gave up the chase and turned back to deeper waters. Managing to stay on her feet as she touched down on the shores, Tsuyu retracted her tongue to pull Shoji towards her before she reached for his right arm and lifted him up, with Hagakure gripping his left as they dragged him out of the water. He was still unresponsive, eyes closed and cold to the touch.
"Are you guys okay?" Ochako urgently asked as she, Izuku and Mineta ran up to meet with them.
"Holy crap, did you see that thing?!" Mineta cried out, pointing at the water. "I-It was... it was huge!"
"I've never seen a shark that big before," Izuku said with a serious edge to his voice, "I don't think I've ever seen a shark like that before!"
"Could you two focus?!" Hagakure snapped, and the two boys visibly recoiled. "Screw that stupid shark! We gotta help Shoji!"
"He's got a pulse," Ochako pressed her head against his broad chest, listening to the faint heartbeat, "But it's really weak. Toru, where did you find him?"
"He was face-down in the water when I found him next to me out there in the ocean!" She responded as she and Tsuyu gently lowered the boy down onto the sand. "B-But no matter what I did, he wouldn't wake up! I-I think he was knocked out by the crash!"
"Crap, that means Shoji must've swallowed too much seawater when he landed! That's why he's not responding! Does anybody know CPR? We gotta clear out his lungs!" Izuku reasoned, finally coming to the conclusion of what was Shoji's severe issue. If he remained completely unresponsive for too long like this, then... they didn't want to think about it. Too many things had gone wrong today, they didn't need their youngest classmate to perish from drowning to further the list.
"I do! Move!" Hagakure said as she pushed aside Ochako, yanked down Shoji's mask and slammed her lips on to his. Right now the invisible girl didn't care if she was invading his privacy by letting them see his face, she was doing this to save his life. Toru let loose a deep breath that she sucked in and blew it into his throat. When that didn't work, she began to pump his chest right where his diaphragm was, hoping to resuscitate the boy. "C'mon Shoji, you gotta wake up!"
"C'mon, c'mon..." Mineta bit his fingernail in anticipation, praying that it would work.
"Ribbit..."
"Damn it!" Hagakure cursed as she tried again, blowing more air down his esophagus before returning to pump his chest, this time more feverishly.
The situation was looking more grim as the seconds ticked by like centuries all while Shoji remained completely unresponsive despite Hagakure's best efforts. The four watching held their breath, hoping that there was a small sliver of hope that the six-armed lad would wake. Hagakure kept going, and they spied tears trailing down her hidden face the more she went on fighting to keep Shoji alive. She could feel his heartbeat getting ever more quiet, only adding to the sinking sensation bubbling in her gut. Yet the fires of her determination did not waver. She wasn't about to give up now. Shoji was her friend, and she never gave up on one.
"Don't you dare die on me, Shoji! You hear me!" She yelled, and in a fit of desperation Hagakure balled her hands together into a fist and slammed it into Shoji's stomach.
"I!" She did it again.
WHAM!
"WON'T!"
WHAM!
"LET YOU!"
WHAM!
Finally, after what seemed like forever, Mezo Shoji lurched upwards with his eyes wide open as he finally took his first open breath after one last successful strike to his chest. The moment he woke up he immediately leaned over to his side and hacked up the water that was clogging his throat, haggardly coughing up a storm with seawater flowing out of his mouth. Sheer relief flooded the five survivors once their friend woke up from his near-drowning before them, letting out breaths of air they had been holding in.
"SHOJI!" Hagakure squealed in utter joy, embracing the boy in a hug. "You're okay!"
After spitting out what little water remained in his mouth, Shoji turned to face the invisible girl.
"Hagakure?" His normally deep voice sounded very hoarse, unsurprising after all the seawater he had hacked up. Shoji noticed that Izuku, Ochako, Mineta and Tsuyu were standing around him, and Hagakure was on her knees near his chest. He reached up to feel his open, unmasked face with some concern before he pulled up his soaked mask and spoke up again. "W-What... what happened? I remember the crash, but... everything else is foggy."
"I'll tell you what happened! She just saved your life, dude!" Mineta said.
"Indeed. She was quite professional-looking when she administered CPR on you. Quite a spectacle, ribbit." Tsuyu added on.
"That was awesome, Hagakure! I didn't know you could do that!" Ochako had stars in her eyes as she looked at the invisible girl.
"Y-Yeah, that was incredible of you!" Izuku said as well, and though they couldn't see it they could tell that Hagakure was blushing brightly, the praise of saving her friend's life starting to get overwhelming. Shoji let out a deep sigh and closed his eyes, feeling the air return to his lungs before he pulled his mask back up his face and gave a respectful nod to Hagakure.
"Thank you, Hagakure. You saved me."
She put a gentle hand on his shoulder.
"We saved you, Shoji." She softly said, turning to face her friends. "We all did."
"Yeah, and if you had been out there a little longer that shark out there would've turned you into calamari-OW!" Mineta shrieked as Tsuyu's tongue whapped the back of his head to shut the grape-headed boy up. Ochako couldn't help but chuckle. With the latest dilemma solved and things looking just a little bit more normal despite the six of them now stuck on an uncharted island in the middle of the ocean, Shoji laid back down on the sand facing straight up at the sky, his tired body begging for some rest. It was then, once he locked his vision on the clouds and beyond, that he slowly noticed that there something quite off about where they were. He craned his neck slightly forward with his eyes narrowing to get a better look, wondering if he was just seeing things after he was brought back from the brink.
"Shoji?" Tsuyu asked, noticing the changes his face was making. "Is everything alright?"
"Everyone," Shoji suddenly said, pointing at the sky, "Please look up."
Wondering what he meant, they turned their eyes to the heavens, and it was then they saw what Shoji had seen.
"Um, Deku?" Ochako asked.
"Yeah?"
"How many moons does the Earth have?"
"One. I'm very sure there's only one."
"Alright then. So please tell me," she slowly said, "How come we're seeing three."
A/N: What a way to start, huh? So far there's only Izuku, Ochako, Mineta, Tsuyu, Hagakure and Shoji. Where's everyone else? Are they on the island, or somewhere completely different? As the story progresses we'll see more of the unknown world and the dangers they are going to encounter. For the six on the island, things are going to be a little more hair-raising as time goes on.
